2013 Edge Factory Alarm
akirby replied to joeyalex's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Some models did not come with a factory alarm. The panic button is not an alarm system. You can test it by rolling down the front window with the doors closed, then using the remote to lock the doors from outside. Then reach in through the window and open the door without unlocking it. If you have an alarm that will trigger it. -
Aha.....so the 3.5 update forced everyone to A4 but the new 3.6.2 version was designed to work both A3 and A4. Makes sense.
-
I thought 3.6.2 came with the A4 card and would not work with the A3 card?

How is this possible
akirby replied to Edge_Beast's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Nope. Ford started removing the alarm on lower end models a few years ago. I was shocked as I thought every vehicle that came with a remote keyfob also had a basic alarm. I think we discovered this on the 2012 Edge SE a couple of years back. -

If you were driving a 1990 Aerostar in college I think the prank was on you....... -
How is this possible

There are only so many physically different keys that can be cut so there will be duplication. However, the chances of a thief having the same key and finding your vehicle to unlock it are statistically so improbable that it's not something to worry about. -
Should absolutely be covered by the emissions warranty.

HELP! Transmission Problem, May be Torque Converter?
akirby replied to Joanne Howe's topic in 2007 Edge & MKX
Then I question what codes your mechanic found. Get the codes - he may have just said it was the tranny because he didn't want to mess with it.- 12 replies

HELP! Transmission Problem, May be Torque Converter?
akirby replied to Joanne Howe's topic in 2007 Edge & MKX
Not likely with those symptoms. Get the spark plugs changed asap - otherwise you won't be able to get them out later. 100K miles is usually the recommended limit. I wouldn't use any additives. If it is the torque converter you don't want to mess up the rest of the tranny. If you can find out the codes and post them here we can probably help point you in the right direction. Could be tranny or engine or something else in the driveline.- 12 replies

Quality(or lack thereof) and Customer Service Impressions

When you claim that glue is not a permanent or correct fix and claim that Ford customer service sucks because of that, you get labeled a whiner. Deal with it. -

Any further posts saying Ford doesn't care or it hasn't been fixed properly will be deleted because it's simply not true. You made your point - move along. -
My guess is it's to accomodate FWD and AWD with the same parts wherever possible.

Like I said - some people just won't be happy no matter what Ford does. If glue fixed the seal and there are no other problems then the problem is fixed regardless of whether the problem was with the door or the weatherstrip. -
SD Card navigation question
akirby replied to strike2tamu's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Ford controls it, not the dealership. The dealership has nothing to do with it. And Ford isn't missing out on that much money because people who want Nav will just order it or buy one with it. OTOH - if they made it too easy to add aftermarket then you'd have a lot of buyers who would not buy it from the factory but would add it for free (from Ford's standpoint at least). So Ford would probably lose a lot more money by allowing it to be field upgraded. Again - it's not a technical issue to do it. It could easily be done but it's hard to come up with a way to ensure that it can only be done with a Ford factory kit that can't be copied or duplicated or used in more than one vehicle at a time. -

Glue is not a patch, it's a permanent repair. -

It's working fine - he just doesn't like the way they fixed it. -
For what reason? I can't think of any real advantage unless you're running aftermarket equipment with it.

That would provide the MOST consistent seal. Now you're just being silly. -

It doesn't matter how it was designed - did they fix it or not? -
Dead Sync SYNC - Black Screen of Death ...

Factory batteries have the normal factory warranty like everything else. They're not prorated - they're either covered by B2B warranty or not. -
Can you lock your car while engine is on?
akirby replied to ELation's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
I think that changed in the new models starting with the 2013s. In the new models (including Fusion/MKZ) if you remove the fob from the vehicle with the engine running and shut the door it will honk twice to let you know the vehicle is still running with no keyfob. You can stop the honk by leaving the door open, leaving the fob in the vehicle or turning off the engine. If you leave the fob in the vehicle you must use the keypad to lock it and that disables the fob until it's unlocked with the keypad or another fob.
