  1. Hi Jenn. :D Welcome and congratulations! There are a lot of good and helpful people here, and a lot of good information. Good luck. :beerchug: PS - Jersey here too. :party2:
  2. Hi PU Pink55. :D You do not provide much information as to what you are looking for. Are you trying to find out where an ordered car is in the process of being scheduled/manufactured/delivered? If that is the case, you will need to be patient. If you had read the previous posts in the Blue Oval Forums ("Vehicle Locator by Ford Employees"), you would have seen that the Ford Employee (ViperPilot) who does the bulk of the VIN checks is on vacation. I believe he is out from 7/20 until 8/4. When he comes back, he will catch up with the requests. Unless someone else here has access to the order database, you will need to wait. I apologize in advance and just ignore what I stated above if you are looking for some other sort of VIN information. Either way, I hope your wait is a short one. Good luck. :beerchug:
  3. I would also fall into category B. I have intentionally not reset the "MPG' readout since purchasing the car, nor have I reset the "AVG MPH" (I do the same with all of my cars). The car had 5.2 miles on it when I purchased new, and now has 9,000, so for me those first few miles would have no real impact on the overall reading. However, what I also do is keep a manual record of my mileage for every tank (I alway fill-up, never just $10, $20, etc.). I use "Trip Odometer A" to measure the miles between fill-ups. So all I need to do is divide the mileage reading on "Trip Odometer A" by the gallons needed to fill-up and I have a per tank MPG reading. I keep a small 5"x3" spiral notebook in my glove compartment and I note the miles driven/gallons used/MPG in three columns, for every fill-up. Then I simply reset "Trip Odometer A" at each fill-up. By doing this, I have a notebook with the individual MPG figures for every tankful of gas used since the car was new, and I have a cumulative MPG readout in the "Information Center" which gives me an "AVG MPG" (and AVG MPH) reading that is accurate since mile number one. I realize many will consider this overkill, but the way I figure, it only takes me 20 seconds to do while I am just sitting there waiting for the tank to fill anyway. My wife even does the same with the car she normally drives. Also, while this has not happened with the new car yet, the cumulative reading for the Cougar is no longer accurate from day one. Once your cars battery is disconnected for any reason, the "Information Center" readouts (MPG, MPH and Trip Odometer) are wiped out and you start clean. This has happened during service for the Cougar two or three times over the seven years we have owned it. I am not sure if the newer cars are different and will keep their readings or not, but I guess I will find out someday. Good luck. :beerchug:
  4. You're welcome Lex. Good luck. :beerchug:
  5. I can highly recommend California Car Cover as a place to purchase: LINK: California Car Covers Click on the link, then hover your cursor over "Custom Car & Truck Covers" in the left side menu. Then click on "Find a Cover". Fill in the drop down menus with your vehicle information, and you will get a detailed listing of all of the fabric choices for your Edge. To help figure out what fabric would be best for your situation, click on the "Help me Choose" radio button on the fabric page. They sell covers made by CoverCraft (among others), one of the best car cover makers in the business. I have a cover which I purchased from them in 2001 for my 2001 Cougar. It is the "SuperWeave" fabric. It is waterproof but breathable, so it will let out moisture condensation from underneath, but keep rain and other moisture from coming through from the outside (very important). It is soft on the paint finish side. It is considered one of the best for outdoor storage, and also good for indoor storage. These are not inexpensive covers, but as always you get what you pay for. They are top quality custom fit covers with mirror pockets. They are not generic "one size fits a bunch of similar sized cars" type covers. You can also get cable locks (for security), storage bags and other accessories. I can vouch for California Car Covers customer service. You can also try the CoverCraft website for other retailers. Hope this information helps.
  6. Hi Larry. :D Look again in your Owners Manual, in the Index under "Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)". It is described on page 195 in the online Manual. When you find it you will see that it is not in the scrollable Information Center. It is simply a warning light in the Warning Light Cluster. It looks like a head on cross-section of a tire, with an exclamation point in it. If that warning light illuminates for a second or two when you start the car (when the instrument lights do their system check), you have a working TPMS system. There is a diagram and it is also described in the "Instrument Cluster Warning Lights and Chimes" section. Good luck. :beerchug:
  7. Hi Loosecannon. :D Yes they will. But if I were you I would check with a reputable wheel/tire retailer like The Tire Rack, or a local wheel/tire distributor you trust (if you have one) for a professional opinion before you purchase. Good luck. :beerchug:
  8. Hi KyBill. :D I just wanted to clear up a slight error in your pricing explanation, so others do not get confused: A-Plan is not Invoice Price. A-Plan pricing is much better than, and well below Invoice or X-Plan price. X-Plan is approximately Invoice price (usually about $50-$150 under Invoice, according to the particular vehicle). Just do not want people getting confused concerning the pricing of the various plans. Good luck. :beerchug:
  9. Hi PrinzII. :D I am not 100% sure, but I believe the Edge does not have a Cabin Air Filter. There is no part# listed for an Edge Cabin Air Filter in the Manual. I called my local Ford Dealer Parts Department, and they are not sure either. While they show a part# listed, they say they have none in stock, have never sold any, and believe a changeable filter was planned but never added to the Edge. What is known is that the Edge/MKX use the same basic HVAC system as the Fusion/Milan/MKZ and they do not have a Cabin Air Filter. Although the Edge/MKX (like the Fusion/Milan/MKZ) Owners Manuals have a section labeled "Cabin Air Filter (if equipped)", it seems it may have been a planned but deleted feature. Keywords being "if equipped". Almost all Ford Owners Manuals are printed with that information, whether the vehicle is equipped with one or not. Just a catch all section. Therefore the "if equipped" warning. Still, it can't hurt to ask the Service Department. Let us know what you find out. Good luck. :beerchug:
  10. Hi PrinzII. :D I completely understand your concerns and think that a trip to the Dealer is probably the best course of action for everyone who is having this problem. When I copy and paste information from the Owners Manual and recommend that we all take a look at it, that advice is obviously aimed at those who do not read the Owners Manual, not those like you who do read it. You would be surprised how many people never even crack it open. My advice is not meant in a mean way, and there is nothing personal meant towards anyone. It is just general advice for those who have not read the Manual.. Concerning the A/C flow problem: I see you have already been to the Dealer and they are perplexed as well. I wonder if perhaps there is a disconnected duct that is causing the problem? It could explain the "open glove compartment/better air flow" mystery. Just a wild guess and probably not the cause, but figured I would throw it out there. Good luck. :beerchug:
  11. Hi cbEdge. :D Unfortunately, you misunderstood both the meaning and the intent of my reply. Nobody in this thread, including me (since obviously I am "the one"), stated to ""RTFM - Read the @#$%ing Manual" (your words). I took the time to copy and paste information from the Owners Manual (not "RTFM") meant to help other members try and obtain maximum AC efficiency. This information was meant for those who may not have been aware of it. Whenever I quote something from the Owners Manual, I always state that the information is copied and pasted from there, so that anyone who wishes can verify that what I have told them is true. Certainly there is nothing wrong wrong with that, correct? Let''s face it, there are people on the Internet (and even a few on this Forum) who dispense incorrect information, usually accidentally but incorrect nonetheless. If you were aware of the information I posted, that is good. But perhaps others did not know this information. In fact, it was obvious that some were not aware of this information. That is why most of us are here; To help each other by exchanging information. In addition, I also added this specific statement (and this is an exact quote from my post), "If the above tips do not help, best bet is to bring it in for service". So I acknowledged the fact that our fellow members complaints are valid ones, and if the Owners Manual information does not help they should bring their vehicle to the Dealer. Not sure how you can equate any of that to being a rude statement like "RTFM". That is something I have never said to anyone, in any forum. Nowhere do I or anyone else in this thread state that we doubt some Edge owners may have AC systems that are not running as well as they should. Again, simply mentioned tips that are in the Owners Manual, then recommended that we all should look at our Owners Manuals (common sense that I will tell to everyone), then recommended seeing the Dealer for service if there is still a problem. Makes complete sense if read properly. Much different advice than "RTFM". Hopefully you now understand that my intent was not to be rude at all. I was just trying to help those who asked for help. Good luck. :beerchug:
  12. Hi mano1192. :D Thanks for the info. Good luck with the install. :beerchug:
  13. Hi breen24. :D Yes. Your local Lincoln-Mercury or Ford Dealer can retrieve the code for you. Also, other Forum members have provided anecdotal evidence that the code may be located in several places: On a sticker located on or near the PCM. On a sticker in or near the passenger compartment fuse box, and other places. I do not know if this is in fact true, but if it is, hopefully another member will confirm that information for you. If not, there is still the Dealer option. Good luck. :beerchug:
  14. Hi modette. :D Yes, you can turn off the seatbelt reminder if you choose to do so. The instructions are in the Owners Manual. As Lex and I stated earlier, you can program or turn on/off: the auto-locks, auto-headlights, program the headlight delay, etc etc. And again, there are detailed instructions in the Owners Manual. Good luck. :beerchug:
  15. Hi PrinzII. :D If my memory serves me right, the TSB deals with a steering drift to the right while driving. Abowie is concerned about a drift or "track" to the left while braking. However you are right, if he is going to bring the Edge in for service it certainly can't hurt to mention the TSB, if the Service Department does not. Good luck. :beerchug:
  16. Hi abowie. :D It is always hard to diagnose over the Internet. Having said that, it is not something that is common. While FWD vehicles often do have a certain amount of "Torque Steer" during hard acceleration, pulling (or tracking) to one side during braking is not usually a normal condition. Of course, as stated earlier it is hard to diagnose just how serious this tracking problem is. Does it occur under all types of braking and on all types of roads, or only under certain conditions? If it is only under certain conditions, what are the conditions? Have you checked your tire pressures to be sure they are correct (with a good quality pressure gauge)? Incorrect tire pressure could certainly affect your vehicles handling. If it is bad enough that you are concerned about it, you should probably make a service appointment. If it only occurs under certain conditions, be very precise in how you describe it tot he Service personnel. The more information they have, the better the chance of solving any problem there may be. Good luck. :beerchug:
  17. Hi Lex. Unfortunately you misunderstood my intent, as it would seem I did yours. Not a mean rant, no blasting, and no malice intended. Simply stated a perceived observation concerning your replies in this thread and asked you for some sort of clarification. I will accept your word that this was all a misunderstanding, and that we can move on and continue to help others and each other. Concerning your staining problems: Perhaps you really should contact your Dealer and see if there is an underlying problem. There is always the chance your plastic parts have some sort of defective paint finish. Other than protecting the plastic parts with multiple coats of wax and cleaning things off as soon as possible, there is really not much else you can do on a preventative basis. Treating damage after the fact is not an ideal way to do things for any of us, but seems to be the situation that you and some others with the lighter colored paint finishes are having right now. Hope it works out for the best. Good luck. :beerchug:
  18. Hi all. :D All of the things that phoneguy states in the above quote help explain why we all should read our Owners Manuals. The reason I say that is because all of the things he says are specifically addressed in the Manual, but many of us do not know or do them. Our Owners Manuals (on page 29 in my MKZ Manual, yours may vary) specifically recommend the following for maximum quick cooling: For Max AC - In order to achieve maximum cooling performance, press the pictogram which selects the dash vents, press the AC button, press the recirculate button, set the temperature to 60° F (16° C) and the choose the highest blower setting. Regarding the "Recirculate" button, the Manual states: Recirculation control: Press to engage/disengage. Used to manually enable or disable recirculated air operation. When activated, recirculates air in the cabin thereby reducing the amount of time to cool down the interior of the vehicle. Also, the Owners Manual always recommends that you start your car, start your AC system, then open your windows and sunroof (if you have one) for a minute or two to let the hot air out, thus making it easier for your AC system to start initial cooling of your car. Of course, I realize that some of us may have AC units that need servicing. I just have a feeling that a few of us do not really know how to properly set the Automatic Temperature Controls, and a quick read of the Manual may help. If the above tips do not help, best bet is to bring it in for service. I follow the directions in the Owners manual and my AC works great and cools the car down to a frosty temperature (knock on wood). Good luck. :beerchug:
  19. Hi johnsonak. :D First: Did you receive any type of mechanical/driveability Warranty from the Dealer where you purchased your Edge? If you did, they should cover this repair themselves (the Dealer, not Ford). If you did receive a mechanical/driveability Warranty from the Dealer (6 months, 12 months, whatever), they should repair this problem on their dime. If you have a mechanical/driveability Warranty, the only way they legitimately have to get out of the repair would be to claim the vehicle was fine when you purchased it, but you did something to knock it out of alignment after the purchase. Next, to answer your question as to why Ford will not cover this type of problem. The reason for this policy (12 months/12,000 miles) is as follows: If an owner (or in this case, the previous owner) does not bring their vehicle in during the first year or 12,000 miles to complain about this "Pulling" problem, it can safely be assumed that they did not have the "Pull" problem from the factory. Not all Edges have the problem (in fact most do not). After 1 year/12,000 miles, alignments are considered a regular maintenance item. The same as oil changes, tire rotations, windshield wiper replacements, filter changes etc etc. Ford is not responsible for regular maintenance items, unless you purchase an ESP (Extended Service Plan) that covers regular maintenance. Many drivers are not aware that they should normally have their alignment checked once a year, not just after they notice a problem (although that is what many of us do). So essentially, if we did not notice a "Pulling" problem in the first year/12,000 miles, it is assumed that there was no problem from the factory. And if there was no problem from the factory, the TSB does not apply to the situation. After that, since Alignments are a regular maintenance item and not covered under the "Bumper to Bumper Warranty" after 1 year/12,000 miles, we are on our own. After all, most causes of alignment problems after a year are usually driver/road hazard/road impact related. And while it would be nice to have everything covered by the Auto Manufacturers, we can't realistically expect them to fix our cars because we hit potholes, curbs, etc etc. Heck, in this case the pulling problem could have been caused by the previous owner hitting something. Certainly not Ford's fault. I hope my explanation is not too confusing. Good luck. :beerchug:
  20. Hi JAAK. :D Oh, I see. You are looking for a color similar to the MKX's "Figured Maple" in a kit that will fit the Edge. I was a little confused and forgot you have an Edge. For some reason I was thinking you had an MKX, maybe with some sort of "Brushed Nickel Trim" hiding the wood, and you wanted to replace it with real wood. I understand now. Anyway, the "Figured Maple" color description is correct. Direct from the Lincoln website. Good luck. :beerchug:
  21. Hi JAAK. :D The wood in the MKX with the Light Camel (tan) interior is called "Figured Maple". In the Charcoal Black or Medium Light Stone interiors, it is Ebony. Also, just as an FYI: In all three it is real wood, not "woodgrain". Of course, I am referring to the wood trim that comes standard from the factory. Not sure if what you saw was some sort of aftermarket package or not. Hope this information helps. Good luck. :beerchug:
  22. Hi droppinbombs. While Pirelli unveiled their Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico for light truck and SUV/CUV use (up to 30 inch diameter) some time ago, it will not fit the Edge (not even in a 26 inch size). Just go to Pirelli.com and the Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico for light truck and SUV/CUV use (again, up to 30 inch diameter) is already listed, pictures and all. According to any of the major wheel/tire retailers, the largest wheel/tire combination that will fit the Edge is 22 inches. It seems anything larger would entail modification to the bodywork and/or possibly the suspension. Of course, even then the vehicle would be essentially non-drivable on anything bumpier than a pool table. However, looking at your user name I have a feeling you already know all of this and just wanted to stir up a good debate with your very first post? :yup: If that is the case it was a heck of a shot, you certainly picked a good subject for it, and I salute the effort! If that is not the case, my apologies and would you please post a link to where you found this "bolt on the Edge" information? Good luck. :beerchug:
  23. Hi modette99. :D As Lex stated, these are not "secret codes". They are all outlined (in detail) in our Owners Manuals. We don't need to study the Manual like we are having an exam, but everyone should at least take a quick look through it so they can get to know some of these "secrets". As you will see, there are quite a few programmable options on the Edge (as in most new vehicles). For thosw who have lost their Owners Manuals or purchased used and did not get one, you can download a PDF version here: LINK: Owners Manuals. Hover your cursor over "Maintenance". Click on "Owners Manuals". Then just fill in the drop down boxes with your vehicle information. Whatever you decide to do, good luck. :beerchug:
  24. Hi serrington. :D No, it has nothing to do with lights being illegal in certain States during daytime, as that is not the case. It is because the majority of States in the US do not require DRL's. Therefore, they are not enabled unless the State where the vehicle being sold requires it, the purchaser requests it, or for certain Fleet usage. For example (and this is just my personal preference), my State does not require DRL's and I would rather not have them enabled. Just my opinion for my own vehicle, of course. Good luck. :beerchug:
  25. Hi serrington. :D Do you have the Manual HVAC or the Automatic Temperature Control HVAC system on your Edge? If you have the Manual System, you do not have an outside temperature readout. If you have the ATC System, look for the "EXT" button on your HVAC control unit. press it once and it will display the exterior temperature, press it again and it will display the interior temperature. Currently, it can only display one readout at a time. Also, as the Owners Manual mentions, the exterior temperature reading is more accurate when the vehicle in moving. When the vehicle is sitting still, the temperature will normally read higher than it should, due to radiant heat from the road/driveway/surroundings. And for anyone wondering: No, the sensor is not affected by the "wind chill factor" when moving. Inanimate objects are not affected by wind chill. Hope this information helps. Good luck. :beerchug:
