  1. I've done this type of repair on a few cars. A hair drier doesn't put out enough heat. If you use a heat gun on the back of the bumper you can push out the dent from the back and not destroy the paint. Move the heat gun in circular motions until the whole area is hot enough to make the plastic soft then use something like a hammer handle to push the dent out from the inside. On two of the repairs that I did, you couldn't see the repair when I was done. On one of them the bumper was gouged to the point that it should have been replaced but it still looked much better than before.
  2. Are you sure the ABS is pulsing the brakes and you don't have a seriously warped rotor? Does the pulsing change according to speed?
  3. I still consider my 2007 a nearly perfect car. No rattles, squeaks, some road noise because I'm ready for some new tires after 60,000 miles. The water pump is a crappy design and is the only expensive repair done at 110,000 miles. I had a 95 Contour with a 24V 2.5 engine. The water pump was driven off one of the cam shafts on the back side of the engine. The water pump replacement was a simple half hour repair. I'm now at 132,000 miles and the car feels like it will go another hundred thou with proper maintenance which is the key.
  4. I have a 2007 and tried to use the fuse box. It seems that fuses in the fuse box stay hot even if it seems that they shouldn't. I think the circuit is hot and the body controller switches the accessory off. I just tapped into the wiring behind the radio for a switched 12V source. Remember that this circuit will remain live with a delay or until the door is opened. You can also use the auto dimming mirror 12v for the same result.
  5. If you want the best of both worlds and can't go up with a lift you can get the portable lifts and have a pit installed. Pits are safe if they have the proper safety mechanisms installed. I would install fire suppression, lighting, air, and easy access with a metal staircase. There are rolling chairs available and please wear a bump hat. I'm talking about spending your money not mine.
  6. Should have charged him extra for the interior cleaning service. People can be such asses
  7. I didn't do an alignment when I replaced my drive shafts on both sides. The strut holes do not have any adjustment slots and this is really the only thing removed that can screw with alignment. This was 40,000 miles ago and the tires are still going strong with out any wear problems. Before I removed the first bolts I marked their position. When they were reinstalled there was no movement. Great write-up. I'll bet this is a permanent fix. There is no way for water to get under the tone ring and JB weld should be strong enough to hold everything in place.
  8. You can just buy new axles for about $100 a pair on EBay made in USA by Detroit axle. They have new tone rings and are complete. Installation is pretty easy if you have the correct tools. Disabling the ABS and traction control is dangerous. You may not like the ABS but it will stop you faster and give you steering control in slippery conditions. My 07 Edge has these replacement axles in it for the last 60,000 miles. They were installed because of a bad CV joint. The quality is top notch.
  9. Well maintained or not there is no maintenance to do on a CV joint except to see if the boot is leaking. When I did mine they looked perfect without any leaks or tears in the boot. I think mine had close to 80,000 when the first one went. I didn't post mortem mine but I bet it looked about the same.
  10. I called my local dealer in Connecticut and they said: Ford has raised the rental to 44 bucks a day you keep your car at home and don't drive it when you pick up your rental they record the mileage on your Edge. They wouldn't let me know what I would be getting for a rental. Additional insurance is your problem. (my insurance covers for rentals) I like my Edge and don't want another car. Not driving a car for months at a time is really bad for it. I'm hoping for a quick resolution before 2019.
  11. You can install an aftermarket DVD, Navigation, Radio, ETC. Tons of them available
  12. I used Crutchfield for my head replacement and they are great. Buy the whole package from them and it will all work together and look like factory.
  13. I just had a rattling problem with mine. You can adjust the door by slightly and carefully bending the metal bracket that the lock clamps onto. Go easy and in small steps. If the lock grabs onto the metal bracket and it still opens it's probably the lock that needs to be replaced. You should try to lubricate the lock like enigma said before replacing it.
  14. I agree that they should have been changed already. Ford and the dealerships tell me that the replacements will not be available until the second or third quarter of this year. If anyone knows differently please fill me in. I'm getting tired of having my mother-in-law sit in the shrapnel seat LOL
  15. The fuel tank recall is for leaking tanks. (To prevent them from leaking because they will eventually rust through)
  16. I purchased the car from the original owner. It had a Louisiana dealership sticker on the hatch so I know the cars history. a few years in Louisiana and after a few years in Arizona. Then north to Connecticut. (Another hint is the leather seats without seat heaters) This was a good thing when the recall was for the gas tank. It was replaced although it still looked like new. No New England rust.
  17. If it runs without the air intake on I would think it may have a clog in the intake system, air filter. when you had it running without the intake on did you have the mass air sensor disconnected? When cars sit for a long time they seem to become hotels for rodents. I had a Chevy pickup that used to sit for a year and then made a run to New Jersey from Connecticut every year. Just about every time it was used it had mice living in the air filter. This car has low mileage and probably sat for long periods on time between uses. If you had the mass air sensor disconnected and it ran it is probably a faulty sensor.
  18. Mine qualifies as highest risk area and they haven't repaired any of them yet.
  19. The previous recall letter told me to use the car but don't put passengers in the front seat. They gotta be kidding lol. I wonder if they have different letters for different severity of the problem. This car was originally from Louisiana and then Arizona. Hot and Humid and then just Hot. It qualifies for the first round of replacement.
  20. I just got a letter yesterday from ford telling me that they will supply me with a rental car for $30 a day so I don't have to drive my Takata front passenger equipped 2007 Edge. (No Gas or Insurance) I may go for it depending on the available cars for $30. I don't want to be in anything smaller than an escape. The letter states that Ford expects to have replacement airbags by the third or fourth quarter of 2018. It will stop me from adding mileage to my 2007 with 129,000 miles. They also state that the car should be kept at home during the wait. Good thing, I hate the thought of leaving it outside on a dealers lot and not running it for an extended period which is what they did when people were waiting for gas tanks. I always keep my cars in a garage which really preserves them and i will have the opportunity to drive it around once in a while. This deal is not because of Fords good nature. The letter states that this is in accordance with federal law.
  21. I know they recalled 2007,Not sure about 8 or 9.
  22. Mac T has a video on You Tube with instructions for doing this and painting the aluminum rim under. search "remove chrome clad from wheels"
  23. Same exact symptoms as my 2007 @ 110,000. Many more miles. You were lucky enough to pay attention and have the external weep hole leak first so there was a sign that you had a leak. When to other one goes first it leaks into the oil pan and bye bye engine.$1700 later and all is well. Still much better than buying an engine.
  24. It's mostly labor cost. If you don't want to buy all of the injectors you should switch the back bank to the front and replace the bad one. The back 3 injectors run much hotter than the front because they are covered by the intake manifold. I'm assuming that the bad injector is on the back bank. I'm estimating about 3 hours labor to change the plugs and injectors but I'm just guessing. Good luck, 140,000 miles on plugs is really dangerous to the computer. Do it soon!
