  1. Just joined. It seems like we are providing Ford with information. I hope this will be a two way door.
  2. Best bet is come prepared. When I brought my 2007 in for a fuel tank change I asked if they had it in stock for a FWD version, made an appointment and asked if they just intended to seal the tank or replace it. I also asked for a loaner which was provided for just the gasoline that was used. They also saved my 1/8 tank of gas and put it in the new tank. Knowing what you are talking about and questioning what they are prepared to do is important when dealing with service departments.
  3. (Referring to the link put up by macbwt on page 19) I love the statement about Takata air bags. Air bag inflators that can fail and "injure" people. Is a punctured carotid artery an injury? Remember the old Ford slogan "Ford has a better idea" I'm not against technology, I'm against dealing with a company (Takata not Ford) that has covered up its problems and is dragging its feet on recalls. Just about every month there are new cars added to the Takata recalls. Takata should be spending all of its resources on airbag replacement and not developing new toys that will just end up on new recall lists. I prefer to point my car where I want it to go.
  4. LOL I needed that. The upper intakes are plastic and seem to do just fine. This is probably just a bad supplier. They could use a metal flange to spread the pressure on the sealing surfaces.
  5. I have a cousin that calls me to do his every time he gets a new car. It can be confusing.
  6. If you have the chrome clad wheels you may have some debris between the wheel and the cladding. mactford edge on you tube has some video of the removal procedure. If you remove the offending wheel and roll it by itself you can tell if the noise is coming from the wheel of somewhere else.
  7. Roadmaster4, It sounds like your deep down buried alternator is now 6 feet down and needs to be really buried. ipgao, Batteries can have intermittent cells. My 2002 Grand Cherokee just proved this to me. I thought I needed a body control module and it was just a battery that read normally and sometimes read at 9V. Even in a 2002 vehicle, it played havoc on the electrical systems.
  8. fuel shut off is located on the left side of the rear hatch area on the side panel under the seat fold switches.
  9. My friend owns a body shop where they specialize in BMW repairs. He calls them the "ultimate off road vehicles". They are always being towed in with branches sticking out of the grill and wheel wells.
  10. All the above and it would run on snake oil (premium)

  12. It depends on which side of the caliper your standing or if your in the southern hemisphere LOL.
  13. As one of the unfortunate water pump repair recipient's I do not consider this a crap design, just an expensive to repair design. It did last 114,000 miles. There are signs. 1. The slight odor of antifreeze in a closed garage for just a second. (must be my imagination) 2. About a week before the leaking started I noticed a slight rattle in the front of the engine (must be the belt tensioner) 3. Damp spot on the garage floor. (only noticed because I needed to move my snow blower) 4. A few drops of juice on the ground. (Oh shit, it tastes like antifreeze) Lucky nothing got into the oil. Pay attention, THERE ARE SIGNS and don't drive it if you can avoid it. I had a 98 24V Contour with the Duratek engine. Not the same but similar engines. The water pump was driven off one of the cam shafts through a belt. The plastic impeller was a crap design but it took about an hour to change the pump and belt. This was a nice compact design and probably could have been used on the 3.5. Oh well, I should be good for the next 100,000 miles.
  14. If it's a broken part and it's only available as an assembly, unless there is an official ford fix I would think they would need to replace the whole assembly. I wouldn't want a service guy to repair my car with a hot glue gun, (or whatever their solution is). If it was my car and out of warrantee I would fix it myself with a hot glue gun LOL.
  15. Just went through the water pump thing. Total bill after all the other bits, chains, coolant, oil, and gaskets was $1919.84. I was lucky and caught it before it got into the oil. I saw a few drops of coolant on the ground and had it done immediately. This happened at 114,000 miles. The coolant was the gold color and now is the green. If I knew I could avoid the water pump I would have added the green food coloring earlier LOL. Good luck with your Edge. The water pump was the first major repair in 114,000 miles. This is a really nice vehicle.
  16. It's the rectangular box behind the mirror.
  17. As Homer would say "SHINEY!!" Nice hot color.
  18. The only reasonable repair rates I have ever seen were my own. Just had a water pump done at my mechanic. Their rates are $110/hr. in Connecticut. Ford rates in Ct. are $130/ hr. I had them piggyback new belts on the job and anything else that needed changing at the same time.(antifreeze, timing chains, tensioners check them and change if necessary.) They did the plugs which I didn't pay for because I had just changed them 3000 miles before. They should have asked me before they did the work. My point is if you can do it yourself, do it yourself, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and try to piggyback inexpensive parts onto the labor that is being done anyway.
  19. The salesman lied to you when he told you that it was just driven around for exposure. The sales people get to use a car for their personal use and pay a small amount to do so. 500 miles isn't unusual for that reason. When he tried to slip in the disclosure paper as the last thing to sign you should have run. All things considered, you made your wife happy. This kind of stuff happens too often. My wife's father was a car salesman. They had a saying (There's an ass for every seat.) At this point it is too late to do anything so just sit back and enjoy the ride and good luck with the edge.
  20. Local shop. I've been dealing with them for years. Connecticut labor rates are $100/hr. 12 hrs. labor $180 for the pump and the 2 belts. Dealership is getting over 2 grand.
  21. I like the look, You see a lot of this kind of stuff on Jeep forums but not for the Edge. I'm not sure about the PTU and other mechanicals holding up under really rugged conditions but the look is there and would make a really great rolling billboard for your new business.
  22. Good thing I didn't have a cat peeing in the engine compartment I'm having them change the drive belts while the thing is apart. They are original. Fixing this is still better than car payments. I still love this vehicle and intend to drive it for at least another 5 years.
  23. Boy was I wrong!!! I forgot that the antifreeze is yellow and not green. I tasted it on Friday when it really started dripping more than one drip occasionally. At least I got it before it contaminated the oil. $1500 water pump. I new it was coming and was right. Oh well, suck it up and go on. This is the first major repair in 114 thou miles. Lets hope for another 100,000. Thanks for all the great feedback.
  24. Thanks, its FWD and it's not splatter, I will try to snug the filter, but I doubt it. It can't hurt and would be the best of all worlds if it fixed it. Thanks Paul
