07 Edge transmission cooling line o-ring help
PaulSchott replied to navaidstech's topic in 2007 Edge & MKX
I'm not sure what size you need but a standard Viton O-ring should do nicely. We use Viton O-rings in all of our products and they are oil resistant and hold up to a wide temp variation. I understand that Ford has to sell you an entire assembly because they do not stock standard hardware for replacement. You may want to try a plumbing supply store and just buy a .25 cent part instead of an $18 O-ring kit but I would insist on Viton. -
They have 2 repair options. Repair your own ECU or have a repaired one shipped to you. Better off letting them repair your own. No key programing issues. Make sure all your coils are still good. A bad coil can take the ECU out in a heartbeat. What is your mileage? The plugs should have been changed before 90,000 miles. There are other service items that need attention on these cars, Most importantly! 1. Coolant. If you don't have a service history on the car have it changed. The water pumps on these cars are an internal part and will cost you about $1700 to replace. Flush and replace. 2. Transmission fluid. Ford says lifetime Don't chance it. Spend the money now and save the big bill later. 3. If you have an all wheel drive have the PTU fluid changed.

Will Edge Hood panel fit a 2007Lincoln MKX?
PaulSchott replied to HollyMN's topic in 2007 Edge & MKX
A second look at pictures posted that are better than mine. There are 2 major differences I can see. First, on the Lincoln the vertical crease lines along the length of the hood make a sweep at the ends. Two, The Edge has a crease line across the front that blends into the front fenders. The Lincoln doesn't have the crease and will not fit properly. I just checked EBay for 2007 Ford Edge hoods. There are a number of used OE hoods for sale (about $400 with shipping) and some aftermarket ones for less than half the price of an OE. with free shipping. I can't recommend an aftermarket hood will have the quality of a used OE hood. I'm sure money is a concern. The pictures I saw on EBay show all the correct holes and attachment points on the back side of the hood. If you don't have a show car I would chance the aftermarket hood. It will definitely be better than trying to fit a Lincoln hood.- 9 replies

What functions of a 2007 SEL can be controlled or modified using Forscan? What Version would be most appropriate for this car? I know that this is not as complicated as later models and I really do not need to change anything but I am curious and would like to understand the technical end of the systems.

Brakes briefly turned to mashed potatoes

I agree with akirby. I'm pretty sure it was normal reaction to hitting that oil patch. It did what it was supposed to do. (scare the crap out of you lol) -
Will Edge Hood panel fit a 2007Lincoln MKX?

The leading edge looks different. It may be because of the chrome on the Lincoln but you need to do a close up comparison.- 9 replies

Oh yeah, Don't be surprised they haven't called you back. When they realize you hold the money they will call. It is very rare a dealer will want to "take it back"
-
Sounds like a ticking time bomb. 4.5 quarts low on oil and all the other problems. The silicone repair on the baffle sounds like a Mickey Mouse repair. I would give it back. You are still holding the money. Pretty good bargaining chip. Extended warrantee isn't going to keep you from being stranded on the side of the road. Good luck
-
Big undertaking!! Good luck at the dealership. I bet it will feel good to get in her and drive.

Very interesting, It needs to park on the left side of the street. UK is fun to drive in. I got out of a van on the front passenger seat and fell onto the car next to us because I tried to grab the steering wheel which wasn't there. Embarrassing, It wasn't after leaving a pub.

Type and grade of engine oil change for 2011 Edge SEL FWD 3.5L
PaulSchott replied to Edgingage's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
My company uses F-series trucks in Canada for railroad track testing equipment. We test rail at -40. I will ask about what we use for oil. I use what Ford recommends which is 5W20. I'm in Connecticut and our winters are moderate. I use Mobile 1 full synthetic. I do my oil changes at around 6000 miles when it just starts to get darker. This car has always had full synthetic. -
I don't consider 2011 as old. Mine is a 2007 and I still love it. I was a GM guy before my wife's Chevy Lumina. BIGGEST POS . Turn the directional on and the handle fell off in your hand. 45,000 miles and head gaskets went and took out the motor. This was and American Hugo equivalent. Ford has been ok. Just remember to change antifreeze trans fluid and oil regularly.
-
I found the weep hole myself, It was where the antifreeze was coming out. LOL (CRY OUT LOUD)

It feels just like it did before the problem. Smooth idle, no check engine light. Oh yeah, I think it runs the 1/4 mile in about 8 seconds at about 150 and gets 42 MPG now. It could just be the turbo emblem on the back LOL This hasn't been a banner year for the edge. Water pump and fuel injector, I'm at around $2000 in repairs this year. I still love the thing and at least I don't have any car payments. My wife has a 2002 Grand Cherokee that looks new and has about 130,000 miles on it. It has the 4.0 liter engine and will go for another 130,000 without any major problems. I just do all the fluids every 50,000 miles. This is a car that is easy to maintain yourself. Nothing hidden and lots of room to work.

One day and it's all done. $325 out of the door and don't have to keep driving my cousins filthy Altima. I shouldn't complain but I had to kick the empty coffee cups out of the drivers side door lol. He also has a full tank because it was on fumes when he dropped it off. I will thank him and buy him a couple of scotches when he picks it up. When they had the plenum off I had them switch the coil packs in the back to the front bank.

Thanks for the advice and help. Sorry to say that I'm taking the easy and expensive way out. I need my car back and my schedule at work this week is crazy. My trusted mechanic said that the job will max out at $300. I called the local ford dealer and he quoted over $600 Fuel injector @ $150 3.5 hrs labor @ $130/hr New plenum gaskets @ $90 and I'm sure a host of other charges like the inevitable tax and disposal fees. If I did it myself it would cost me $60 for the injector and about 20 for the gaskets so for another $220 I have the luxury of not swearing at that damn plenum! I'm almost 70 and the thought of leaning over and engine is not as appealing as it was when I was 30.

Do I need any special tools to remove the fuel rail? (quick disconnect?)
-
Oh well, It was bound to happen. Another reason to remove the intake manifold. Well I guess that and injector is preferable to a coil and computer. Just started to misfire today.  Anyone have an easier way or any suggestions? Thanks, Paul

When I installed my Nav head I grounded the emergency brake wire to eliminate the installation hassles. I can also watch DVDs while driving. Doesn't mean that I will. I do use the Nav on occasion while driving. It is very distracting. I only use it to set already programmed destinations, only 3 touch screen operations. I signed the release forms in blood before the car would start.

I went to a costume party as a greaser. I used Vaseline in my hair. 3 shampoos later I was still sliding out of bed.

Inexpensive Rear Bumper Top Guard Cover with Photos
PaulSchott replied to evh's topic in Accessories & Modifications
This place always gives me new ideas!! I was looking at this post and realized I just threw away the perfect bumper protector. I replaced the back bumper on my wife's 2002 Grand Cherokee and threw the old one in the dumpster at work. I did some dumpster diving and retrieved the black protector from the jeep. It was too deep so I band sawed to the correct depth and cut off the nipples that held it to the Jeep. The curve was pretty good so I just used a belt sander to clean off the sawed off edge and used some 3M body molding tape to attach it. It needs to be cleaned and shined up but I think it looks pretty good. -
I did both of mine a while ago and also found the right side needed some extra persuasion to remove. I kept looking for a retaining pin to remove.
