SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
jmr061 replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
And it is the same exact DL that was released for the other 16 Lincoln models 3 months ago but yet MKX owners had to wait....why? -
You can always log into your owner account and check for recalls. It is showing up on mine so they have associated it with the vehicles involved.
-
Pull the battery cable for a minute. You have a 2011....good chance the APIM has or is in the process of dying.
-
BTW replacement parts are not available as of yet. Expected 2nd quarter of 2017. I really wonder how many dealers actually follow the law that it is illegal to deliver a new vehicle with a safety recall pending...

Mud Flap Splash Guard - OEM or 3rd Party ?

Unless things have changed Ford doesn't make molded rear splash guards for the 15+ Sport. -
Odd smell from AC vents during hard acceleration
jmr061 replied to gg2017's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
You may find this of interest : http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/22030-natural-gassulfer-smell/?hl=%2Bnatural+%2Bgas The 16 isn't listed but you never know. The PTU is working hard under acceleration like that. -
Actually even with a firmware change it still maintains certain characteristics that only the EU cluster would have such as Fuel gauge showing 0 and 1 at the ends (instead of E and F) and temp gauge showing 60 and 120 © at the ends as well (instead of C/H). So using a NA cluster is the way to go. Also the EU parts are super expensive...the lens for the clusters here typically run $20-$30. I paid $115.50 not including shipping for the correct lens.

Another lazy dealer (okay maybe that is a bit harsh)...Here is how I would expect it to go...so you smell an odor of natural gas or sulfur coming from your HVAC system. Well let me look to see if there are any known issues like that. Oh I found something that may apply. We can look at your vehicle and if the known issue exists we will see if your warranty covers it. If it has the issue and the warranty covers it then you will be fine otherwise if the warranty doesn't cover it you will be responsible for the charges. Also if that isn't the issue you will still be liable for the charges. This was found within 30 seconds of looking up 2013 Edge in OASIS using key word search of NATURAL GAS: SSM 45053 - 2007-2015 Various Vehicles Equipped With All Wheel Drive - Propane, Or Natural Gas Odor During Idle Or Low Speed Driving Some 2013-2015 MKZ vehicles equipped with a 3.7L, 2007-2014 Edge, 2007-2015 MKX, 2011-2015 Explorer, 2009-2015 Flex, 2010-2015 MKT, 2008-2015 Taurus, 2008-2009Taurus X, 2009-2015 MKS, 2007-2012 Fusion/MKZ, and 2007-2011 Milan vehicles equipped with a PTU may exhibit a propane, or natural gas odor from the HVAC systemafter driving the vehicle for 20-45 minutes. This odor, if present, is most noticeable while idling or during low speed driving. Inspect the PTU for fluid leaks and repair any leaks per Workshop Manual Section 308-07B. If odor is still present after the leak repair and cleaning, replace the PTU and vent hose, if equipped. For vehicles with no leaks and odor present, replace the PTU along with thePTU vent hose, if equipped. Refer to Section 7 of the SLTS manual for the appropriate labor operations. I hope they suspected that from the beginning of you stating what you smelled since there is a bulletin on PTU failure and the customer complaining about natural gas smell in those circumstances.

You could use other clusters of the same style. I am fairly confident newer MKX and MKZ would work. I tried a used MKC cluster and it didn't work. The fuel gauge wouldn't read right. I don't know if it internally is different or if the cluster itself had an issue. So I wouldn't recommend a MKC cluster. You wouldn't necessarily need to re-write the firmware but you would have to play with the build data to get things set up correctly. I liked the options opened up with the firmware of the Euro Edge. For instance the NA MKZ displays temp but the NA MKX and NA Explorer Platinum doen't. Why would they purposely leave that out? To me that is ridiculous. Its fully capable of it but they choose not to include it. Also the Explorer cluster I used had the fuel door location pointing to the passenger side and that display turns out to be firmware controlled rather than build data controlled. Anyway, you would still need to get a new lens housing as already noted. You also have to find someone capable of matching the odometer. If you order a new one they can specify the mileage. I don't see this as being a useless post...It shows what can be done when people put the time and energy into doing something.
-
Well this is what the original cluster looks like: @akirby I see you have 16 MKX so your cluster should be the same but I don't believe the MKX cluster supports the outside air temp on the display which is why I didn't look into using that firmware as well as the needles would have been white instead of blue. The upper cluster also doesn't support CLIMATE controls which is a bit of a let down but I absolutely love having the digital speedo right in the center. When on a road that built in NAV has a speed limit for, it always displays that in center of the "analog" speedo just to the right of the lane departure system. The cluster I used was a brand new cluster and I had to order the proper lens to fit the Edge from a dealer in the UK as you can't order it in North America. That took a while to get. I have special software that I was able to force the Euro Edge firmware into it and then it was just researching and tinkering with the build data programming. If you watch the engineering video you will see the values I ended up using. Very pleased with the final product.

I have been working on this project for a while and am finally satisfied with the final outcome. I used a 17 Explorer Platinum instrument cluster and loaded the firmware for the Euro spec Edge which uses the same style cluster. I messed with the programming data A LOT and believe I have everything working as it should now. Def. like the upper style cluster much better. Each cluster has its pros and cons but I do like this one over the original cluster. Mileage was matched at the time of swap. On the first video when I click a seatbelt...its the front passenger seat I am doing.

SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
jmr061 replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
What was it shipped in? Damn -
SM indicates there is no gasket as RTV sealant is used. The oil pan is a disposable item (one time use).
-
13 TPMS won't work on a 17...15-17 utilize different TPMS

SOLD...thanks

I still have these $25 shipped in the USA.

The lincoln part # for a single usb hub that would be carplay compliant appears to be HP5Z-19A387-E. That is based on looking up a 17 MKZ that uses the same size single port. Until someone would try one it is an educated guess. -

That was That is the wrong hub for the MKX but as long as you are satisfied that is all that matters. That Walt Sweeney place seems to have realized they should stock up and cornered the market on the GJ7Z-19A387-B hub. -

The latest Ford "promise" is AA by end of 2016 and CP early 2017.
