Journey of an Edge from Canada to US
Chipster replied to luxpow's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Mine came by train to Norfolk Va and trucked to Richmond Va.(about 100 miles) -
Fair enough, but you need to know that it was adjustable to even search for it. That's why I am here...

Do tell! (how?)

I truly lucked out a couple weeks back... I thought that there was no way that I could open the hatch while the vehicle was parked in my garage with the garage door open, (not a problem with the garage door closed) but I was not thinking while preparing to load up the Edge for a fishing trip. I did the foot wave and walked off to grab a couple of fishing rods when the "fire" of reality hit me like a lightening bolt. I knew that the hatch should reverse if it strikes something, but it did not reverse. I knew it was one of two things. I had been incredibly lucky, (a rare occurrence for me) or that the feature did not work that day. It turns out that it missed hitting the retracted garage door by a whisker. I think if the vehicle had been parked several inches more to the left or right the garage door section hinges would have been contacted by the hatch. Needless to say I felt like I dodged a bullet that day and hope I don't repeat that thoughtless act.

I would sure like to know how many 2015's Ford has repurchased and what the criteria is / was that was used to approve or disapprove any given leaking Edge?

Dooley can you post a couple of pictures of your work? I am interested in seeing the grill and chrome strip rework. Which Plasi Dip color did you select to coat them?

2015-16 Bumper Protector.....What do you have?
Chipster replied to WingNut's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
What I did was to take a beach towel that was long enough to cover the entire width of the back hatch / bumper and doubled it to half its width. I then tucked one doubled edge into the storage area under the storage hatch (not too tight a fit) with enough towel left out to completely cover the back bumper cover. It's anchored in place by the storage hatch cover and it is just a matter of flipping it in place when needed or flipping it back when not needed. Great for allowing the dog to jump in after a romp at the local dog park with no worry about big dog paws (read claws) messing up the bumper. What ever you use make sure that the material you use if clear of the hatch when closing. If it is left over the latch points the hatch will / can get stuck. Don't ask me how I know... -
I just edited the poll so the numbers will be off, but I wanted to add the purchase of a 2017 and make some changes to other questions.

As a previous vette & sportbike owner, and a current owner of a S2000 I am well acquainted with the practice of a wave gesture when passing a like vehicle. I did it when I first got my Edge to another second gen. owner who just looked at me like I was crazy. Given the large number of Edge vehicles on the road you might find yourself waving at others and not getting a second look. Even current Corvette owners are trying to promote "The Wave" again as its use was / is fading. Anyway, go for it and see what happens. Hell we could invent a wave where the Edge driver displays his hand on edge, tomahawk style as a happy motoring gesture from one Edge owner to another. It's bound to get folks attention, but they may not have a clue why or WTH.

How many miles are on it and did it smell exactly like that smell we all associate with a "mildew" source? If it was like my issue (reported here) it will not smell like mildew, but it does smell pretty bad. Mine has seemed to go away, but I have not needed to use the AC for a while and have been using the fan powered vent for ventilation without any smell noted.

Thanks! Have you tried it?

Has anyone ever seen or used this tool (fine painting pen) for paint chip repair? If so where did you find the tool? http://www.autoblog.com/article/how-to-fix-a-rock-chip-autoblog-details/#conversation

2015+ common area - a place to say anything (feel free to pin)
Chipster replied to 037's topic in 2015 Edge & MKX
That smell seems to be gone, but let's see if it truly gone for good. Another question; I can't seem to find a menu that controls the duration timer on the marker lights after the door is closed. Seems like the lights stay on at least 30 seconds every time the door is opened. I would like to drop that time down to 10 or 15 seconds if possible. All things considered I could turn them off entirely (if I could) and not be bothered. -
I now have just under 1K on the clock (yeah I know ) and have nothing to complain about. I can see why even small rattles and other body noises are bothersome though...This thing has a really quiet interior so rattles really stick out. The only rattle I had was self induced by a four way lug wrench I put in the storage area. Its vibration against the spare tire required the targeted placement of a piece of indoor carpet to isolate it from the tire. I still have not grown accustomed to the numb feel of the steering, but its no big deal. The V-6 may not have the pep that the turbo-4 has but I find it easy to live with and very quiet. I can see why Ford has the horn sound if you leave the vehicle with the motor running, though that horn blast does get old when you leave the motor running on purpose. I am still working through the various menus to find out what does what. More later...

I've seen a bunch on dealer's lots but it is rare that I see one on the road. What about you? On a side note... Are other 2016 model threads going to be moved into this sub-forum?

Is the Turbo-charged Engine a Concern?
Chipster replied to lilcharmer214's topic in Owner Impressions
My selection to buy the V-6 over the turbo-four was caused a lingering invalid concern from "the days of old". I was really more concerned with the employed direct injection technology which I know to be problematic in the valvetrane of these DI engines after they hit mid-life. (mileage wise) I will watch for this issue as owners of the DI motors hit that mid-life realm to see if this concern is invalid also. -
I contacted Weathertech and as of now they don't yet make a bug / stone deflectors for the second gen Edge. Who does? Pictures?

Do you have anything constructive to add to to this forum, or is this the best you got?

I agree with this 100%. My reasons for choosing it was that I didn't think much of the other available colors except black. From previous experience I knew did not want to care or live with a black Edge, so the Too good blue was a default. I like it well enough and as jacksprat mentioned it does pop in the right light.

Me too and I am 6' 2". My worse fear is that it shifts into the side of my vehicle. I have to remind myself not to push my luck while reaching...

That's what I use too! Exactly, but what I had in mind was using the rear hatch / window spoiler as the test panel. Just a non-scientific seat of the pants sort of thing that could use a "water beading" test on a small panel that gets the worst of ultra-violet and weather attack. (like the rest of the horizontal panels roof and hood) People could use whatever they want, of course it would be subjective, but it might be fun. Product(s), preparation, and garaged or not would be considerations to note. I have wondered if the size of the beads of water actually indicate anything regarding a products protection factor?
