Monroe or any current model New Strut Bad out the box
garycrist replied to EdgeAWD's topic in 2009 Edge & MKX
If you like KYB, you will love Bilstein. Now if they had Koni for my ST....... FYI the High pressure gas shock helps tame the spring. It fools your butt into thinking you have a softer ride from "sport springs". The downside is, it is easy to die on a wash-board dirt road due to loss of control! It was a local trip for me to the KYB when I lived in Cali. I had all kinds of KYB stuff. -
2020 Edge Titanium Battery Recommendation...
garycrist replied to DNBush's topic in 2019-Current Edge & Nautilius
I have had mine (2022 ST) replaced already (AGM) in less than 1 year. From reading all over, it appears that there were a bunch of bad ones for that model. My date of production was 11/22 and replacement 8/23! -
2008 Edge AWD - loud noise - wheel bearing?
garycrist replied to ADC's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I assumed the OP does not have a lift so I was offering a simple DIY for a quick help. As you know, most people can't tell where most sounds originate (F/R L/R). On most client's claims of sound origins, I would Inspect the exact opposite corner first. In a higher percentage of times, they were wrong thus cutting my time and the $$$ they spent with me! (WIN WIN) With these cavernous insides of these Edges, put the seats down and boy do they get LOUD! For years, I did Rattles,Squeaks and Bitches with "Grandma's Grocery List" a mile long! I have ridden all over a car in search of a client's satisfaction of a noise elimination. From riding in the back seat ( aahhh heating and A/C in the right season), multiple trunk rides for several miles inside and outside, clinging for life in the hood was the most scary! But, I never tried holding on with a stethoscope!𤣠-
2008 Edge AWD - loud noise - wheel bearing?
garycrist replied to ADC's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I'll have to disagree! This is why one keeps "Old Farts" around! Sometimes during transport on the trains along time ago, we learned wheel bearings can be pounded down and create a divot on the race where the roller pounded on it and 1 roller not round! You can't feel it but, you sure can hear it! -
Have you done a factory rest yet ? Soft is Power and seek up buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds (>>I seek up button) Or, do a master reset from general settings of the radio menu.

2008 Edge AWD - loud noise - wheel bearing?
garycrist replied to ADC's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
How are the engine mounts? "there is a loud clunk when going from drive or park to reverse unless you completely come to a stop" From your video, you varied both speed and RPM simultaneously. It is tough to tell the culprit. Have ALL 4 wheel bearing been replaced? I suspect a bearing too but as you state which one! A remote mic coupled to your cellphone, secured close to each bearing would allow you to pin point the right spot for less than $50. GL -
Sure sounds like good old fashion vapor lock. I also wonder if the fuel strainer, if it had one, was plugged up or restricted. With low flow, a vapor lock condition, it would take some time to purge the fuel system of vapor to start injecting liquid fuel.

Edge sways all over the road above 70 mph.
garycrist replied to ibChuck's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Time for a bunch of you to look-up "TRAMLINING". Selling tires way back when, taught us all about that problem with the grooved freeways in S. Cali. Especially with the wrong sidewall configuration. -
This exemplifies the "Waddington Effect". I bet you have to look this one up.......š

Moral of the story often repeated, Never open the pano roof and never encounter a problem.

I remember some Mfg.s had an indicator to let one know when to service the filter.

Wanting to spend a few hundred dollars wisely? Drive through the poor section of your town and drop 30 $10 dollar bills out the window or, pick an Angel off the Christmas Tree @ the mall. Watch the video before you spend your hard earned $$$$!

It is bad rubber molding The crap just falls apart due to UV and heat. I know as I have an 08 Limited. At 1st it was an air leak I fixed with a length of vacuum line to hold the window in and stop the air leak. (Driver's side)

You have a couple of options. Buy the whole assembly springs and all. Then, it is a simple R&R job +alignment. Or, buy some better struts (Bilstein) and have a shop do the spring R&R. Then just bolt them in and do an alignment.

2009 3.5L Edge - Engine Rebuild.... or not
garycrist replied to JPJMustang's topic in 2009 Edge & MKX
Get a different engine. There are no cam bearings as the cams run on aluminum of the head. So, if the engine is locked due to lubrication problems, the heads are smoked too. -
Wait till you get the new adaptive LEDs! In the USA headlights are for ornamental purposes, not for lighting like in Europe.

AM Radio Reception 2015 Edge
garycrist replied to Dmtaurus's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I'll call bullshit to a lot of misconceptions on AM radio and reception. I still have the 3/4 inch hole saw to bore the fender of those Fords, to install the antenna on Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). After drilling the hole, running the coax and plugging it into the radio, one had to trim or match the antenna to the radio. Length to a degree, was tuned by that adjustment. The Shark Fin on top is for one's cellphone with a ferrite wrapped part for the Low Band (A/M). It has to be high and in the clear as the bands cellphones are a lot higher sometimes, in the Gigahertz rather than 1 Megahertz and lower. They are primarily line of sight (Cellphone) where the lower bands may be Worldwide! Internal noise from various electronics in the vehicle causes the problem, not the noise floor! Poor to no filtering and lack of development of the radio is the problem. I have a Yaesu FT-950 (ham radio) that picks up the AM band just fine with a short piece of wire. -
2023 Edge Collision Warning System
garycrist replied to m4rioo's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Or, a stupid glitch...Just like computers but, these new cars have bunches! (remember windows and the Blue Screen of Death?) It could have been a Trucker with a high powered amplifier on 11 Meters with a signal as broad as a barndoor "tickled" the input of one of those computers. DE KI6FG -
Look through this thread..... GL Gary

I do not know where you live, but here just north of Dallas, I bet I could find a set of used 18 inch tires and wheels that will satisfy your ride. It is the low aspect (2nd number) ratio that helps determine stiffness as well as grip for the wider tires. This stiffness is reflected in less sidewall flex, better fuel economy, better handling etc. So a 245/60-18 tire will fill the bill with the 18 inch rims.

What can be said about a pin-up that is real. Then we find out that she is a good shot. But this makes the deal... Talking about the "Right Stuff". https://www.fromtheroad.ford.com/us/en/articles/2024/sydney-sweeney-designs-dream-ford-mustang-for-a-trailblazing-fan

Do you have a catch can on your engine? (aftermarket part) Also it takes a little time for the oil level to stabilize for an accurate oil level reading. I have seen "junk" like extra sealant, clog the oil return path and cause the PCV to SUCK oil! (Dodge 2.2L 4cyl. the smoke cleared mosquitos for miles.) BTW the silicone gobs came from it's an over use on the oil pan and valve cover gaskets. Start with something like a https://www.jlosc.com/ then go from there. Check the level in the catch can after each smoke event, to determine where to go from there.

With all of these favorable tariffs for the US into all of these foreign countries, the only "cheap" super car left is a 5.0 Ford Mustang! Especially since Ford is campaigning a Mustang Dark Horse in several racing classes.

I have never believed that changing tranny fluid on a high mileage vehicle would cause slippage. The normal reason the customer would change the fluid, was because of problems to begin with. (on high mileage transmission) Fresh fluid will not hurt the bands, clutches, steels or seals. Nor will it "wash" the friction material off the clutches or bands too. Most people have no idea what is inside anyway!
