  1. Welcome to a future owner, hopefully! Yes, the factory tow package has a 2 inch receiver. Sounds like your best option is to order one for the equipment you want or don't want. Good luck and let us know. Come back with any other questions you may have including final offered price for your exact vehicle.
  2. I realize the original post was from 2008, but I agree with this last post. Mine are not sensitive enough when it is raining or overcast. I am considering making some type of mesh cloth cover or something to place over the sensor. That will limit the amount of light which is picked up by the sensor and will turn the lights on sooner. I am looking at finding the sensor in a junkyard or at a discount price online. I will use that for forming and molding a cover. I just need to find some different materials with different size openings and mold them up. Trial and error until I find one that is just right! What's really funny is that just yesterday I had to reset some settings on my wife's Acura MDX. I had done some light mods on the interior. Pulling some of the fuses removed some of her settings. One of the settings was to select one of SIX different levels to set the auto sensing for the auto headlights.
  3. If the car sat for a year with moisture on the rotors, I would go back to the basics. I would do a complete tear down of the brake system. You may get away with turning the rotors depending if they are warped or just pitted/rusty from sitting. I would imagine that driving for a year now and they still pulsate you will need to at least turn them because of warping. I would also remove the calipers and clean/inspect/lube the slide pins. They may have dried up and rusted also after sitting for a year. They may not have freed up or cleaned up with you driving for a year after it sat. The brake pads may also be glazed. I would think that driving for a year you would have removed the glaze, but who knows. I would also make sure to follow the torque and torque patten whenever you tighten the lug nuts. It is very important you don't over or under tighten the lugs and cause further damage. Torque specs are given for almost any bolt on any vehicle. Make sure you also torque the caliper mounting bolts and any other bolt you loosen in the brake system. Good luck.
  4. When I first joined this forum in July of last year, I read just about every topic and post I could find. I recall one post about the instructions which came with the lighted sill plates being wrong for newer models. Somewhere along the line from what I remember, Ford had said to connect to a grey wire in the instructions if I recall. Later models were having problems with this wire, and as noted by Cellbine, the purple wire was then the one to use. I tried finding the old posts which actually had pictures of the instructions which came with the sills, but couldn't find it. From what I recall, one of the wires was also found behind the A frame if you removed the trim piece? I think that was for the grey wire? Hopefully I didn't confuse matters too badly, but I do recall the post concerning the change in which wire to use. Perhaps he got an older stock set of sills which will work on the 2012, but being older, they had the incorrect instructions?
  5. The lights do come on if you turn the windshield wipers on. During the intermittent sweeps or the rain sensor sweeps, they must wipe a certain number of times during a certain period before the lights come on. I miss not having the indicator light also.
  6. Give Sirius a call and talk to their customer service representative. Have your radio ID number available. You can find that either in the paperwork from the car or usually by tuning to channel 0 or 1. Here is a link on how to find it. http://www.siriusxm.com/help/findsirius I have three separate accounts right now on three separate vehicles. Each was offered for 6 months at $25.00! I got that price by calling and talking to them as each car subscription was ready to, or had, expired. I paid no reactivation fee on those which had expired. Try one of these numbers to talk to a rep. 1-866-635-2349 or 1-866-610-6195
  7. I had to laugh when I read this! One dealer did offer to exchange the 20" chrome wheels off an Edge I was looking at on their lot with the 18" aluminum wheels off an SEL. He would do an even swap since he had labor costs to do the switch. So I would have been paying $895.00 for the 20" wheels only to trade them for the standard no cost wheels off the SEL and essential paying $895.00 for the labor to swap them! Needless to say, I did not purchase my Edge from that dealership.
  8. Have you checked the level of the transmission fluid?
  9. Roxy Bear, welcome to the forum as a soon to be owner! Don't be afraid to ask any questions. The Limited model you are looking at does come with standard 18" wheels, but those are also chrome clad (basically a chrome cover glued onto a steel wheel) just like the 20" wheels you wanted to avoid. When I was looking for my 2013 Limited, I wanted to avoid the 20" wheels also. I had the dealer search, and I also searched, other dealers in a tri-state area. We only found 1 or 2 Limiteds out of hundreds with the standard 18' chrome clad wheels, the rest had the $895.00 optional 20" wheels. If I really wanted to get the 18" wheels with the options I wanted (301A, Trailer Package, BLIS Vision Package, and White Platinum) I would have had to order the vehicle. I purchased one with the 20" wheels and sold the wheels. I replaced them with 20" wheels from a Ford Flex and am very happy with the way they look. Don't settle for something you don't really want, unless you can live with the decision for the next five or six years of ownership. The factory tow package included upgraded cooling fans, larger radiator, engine oil cooler, and trailer sway control, and a class II hitch. I wanted the package for the additional cooling equipment which is a plus here in the Texas heat. I have never towed anything in the last 20 years, but always purchase the factory towing package whenever I can. It is also good come resale time. For the $395.00 list price of the tow package, you could never duplicate the equipment for twice the cost! Since you are using yours just for a bike rack, adding a hitch later would work just as well. If you do order a new one, you would be better off to order the tow package in my opinion.
  10. No, haven't done any mudguards yet. I've seen a few posts about the flat type working pretty well. I might just do those when the time comes.
  11. Regardless of where you purchase or lease your Ford, you can choose to use any Ford dealership for your repairs and maintenance.
  12. Just finished washing the Edge and had a few minutes to check out the additional features I just learned about. I found the courtesy wipe option and enabled that. I also found the reverse wipe setting and enabled that one. The other day I enabled the enhanced trip/fuel settings and found the OLM reading to see my current oil life percentage. I also found the memory menu setting so that now when I switch between the display, fuel, and trip readouts I don't have to go through any additional menus. The last one I looked at is always there with no further steps needed. Not bad for having owned the car for almost 7 months and putting 10000 miles on it. I guess with all these features and options I might never learn ALL of the little tricks and secrets! Now I just need to figure out how to add back lighting to the tailgate close button. The interior lights are not in a good position to light up that area and I've usually got a box or two blocking those lights. In the dark, I have trouble finding the button to push to close the tailgate.
  13. Having sold GM's in the past, we used to love the employee's who purchased a car or truck from us. GM set the price and there was no haggling for the buyer. The price was under invoice, at times several thousands. There were also times GM had additional incentives on certain vehicles just for the employee's which really brought the price way under invoice. The buyer was entitled also to any public incentives and or special financing. The dealer NEVER lost money, and in fact it was GM who "lost" money by selling it at that price. Now when I say "lost", the true cost to GM to build that vehicle might have been $5000.00 less than any invoice shows. So if GM gave up $3000.00 of that $5000.00, they "lost $2000.00. Not a real loss, just less profit. The dealer made more money than off a typical $500.00 over invoice sale because of the money GM paid them per employee sale. If a dealer made $1000.00-$1500.00 less than a normal sale, no dealer would want to pursue the employee sales. Our commission checks at the end of the month always proved that the employee sales made by us paid better than many of the regular sales. I am sure Ford is set up very similar, actually benefiting both the employee with the set price and the dealer with the "spiff" paid.
  14. It's called a courtesy wipe.... it's a feature you can turn on or off with the instrument cluster settings or using the IDS That's a new one I haven't heard about. Just last week I found the way to read the remaining oil life number and how to set the standard/enhanced setting for the trip and fuel readings. A member had replied to my question and included a picture of how to find it. I'll definitely look for this wiper setting. The only setting I remember is to turn the rain sensor on or off. I knew you can do a "courtesy wipe" by using the stalk on the steering column, but didn't know there's a setting for it. Thanks
  15. Are you sure the last wipe about 10 seconds later isn't the rain sensor working if the windshield is still wet? I love the rain sensor!
  16. I can't believe that for once my timing was right on. I decided yesterday that I would do an oil change and tire rotation on my 2013 with almost 10000 miles. It rained most of yesterday and was chilly with only a high of 55 degrees. I decided to wait until today. I do it every 5000 miles and disregard the OLM (oil life monitor). I was all set to use one of those 7 five quart jugs of Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend that I purchased at the price of $4.95 a jug. Thanks again to those who posted about the discontinuation at the one auto parts store which carried these. There were actually no stores in the Dallas area, but I was able to purchase the 7 jugs from a store in Ohio online. We were driving up around Christmas to visit family, and I had my son pick them up for me. I got my mail yesterday afternoon, and in it was a service notice from my dealership. It contained a coupon for a free oil change and filter using the same oil I was going to. That's a no brainer, I'll let them do this change for free and do the tire rotation myself. I really can't believe it didn't come until after I had done the change myself! :hyper:
  17. Thanks, I'll pay closer attention to see if I'm doing the same thing. I don't think so, but I'll make sure one way or the other. I might even just load a disc in there and see if the message continues.
  18. Well, I'm starting to see several different "bugs" now that I've been running 3.5.1 for a while. Several times when I go to change the music source by using the center entertainment button, a black box with a circle saying NO DISC and a line through the words appears. It goes away after a minute or two. Sometimes when restarting the car with the USB left in and having been listening to the USB when I shut off the car, the USB starts with the first file, not the one that was playing when I shut it off. The center dash entertainment area will say USB and what song is playing, but the small info area to the right of the steering wheel will say AV AUX LINE IN or something to that wording and have a picture with 3 cables. I can scroll through the menu and USB is not even listed as an option. The Aux symbol stays in place even when I touch the entertainment quadrant and get the info on the large screen for the USB and what is playing. After a minute or two the small screen will finally show the USB and the song info. Sometimes the Grace notes shows the correct album art work, and sometimes only the generic art work will show. If I use voice commands to browse the USB for albums, it will list them OK. If I try to play one of them by touching the listed album on the screen it will usually not play. I have to use the touch control to browse the USB to list albums, and then I can touch the album I want and it will play. In the 6 months of ownership before doing this install I had the system only once go into the black screen with Scheduled Maintenance performed. After this last update, it has happened at least two or three times a week! There are times my phone does not pair with the system. I have to go into Phone settings and connect my phone. I can say that after this update I have had numerous problems or bugs that I've never had before. If I had it to do over, I would just stay with the 3.2.1 version I was running. I did this update because of the new navigation card, thinking it was a good way to get an updated map source. WRONG!
  19. I have to correct my reply. The orange color only shows up on the dashboard indicator like CARR142 posted. The floor shifter has the same white background color no mater what gear the shifter is placed in. Sorry, it was one of those things I know I saw, but just associated it with the wrong place.
  20. I purchased the 84 month, 100000 mile, $0.00 deductible Premium Care with first day rental and upgraded rental for my 2013 Edge FWD. Cost from A&K was $1795.00 I also received a hard copy of the contract and a brochure within a week. The other dealer I had to contact via email for one discount code to use on their website. I called after that code was still showing a price well over the A&K price. I received a second discount code which finally brought the price just a little lower than A&K. I'm not sure what coverage or what cost you might pay because you have a 2011 with 32000 miles. My Edge was purchased in July 2012 and the ESP is backdated to the purchase date and 0 miles. I have 10000 miles and just bought the ESP in January 2013. Therefore, I actually have 78 months and 90000 miles of coverage left.
  21. When I put my 2013 Edge into "D", it lights up orange.
  22. I just purchased mine in the last week or so from Anderson & Koch Ford. http://andersonandkoch-ford-warranty.com/index.php/plans-and-pricing/ I also checked with Zeigler Ford who after several contacts with them ended up $25.00 less than what A&K was. http://www.zeiglerfordesp.com/ I went with A&K because they had their lowest price on the internet right from the start. With Zeigler I sent several emails and made a phone call in order to get a lower price by getting a "discount" code twice from them and letting them know I had found a lower price of about $200.00 from the other dealer. The first code gave me a $50.00 off discount but they were still higher. I called and got another code which gave a discount of $200.00 off, which finally got me their lowest price. I liked the fact A&K had their best price posted right from the start on the website. Maybe a strange reason to have purchased it from them, but I liked their business model regarding the pricing right from the start. I also looked at Flood Ford but their price was the highest of the three. http://www.floodfordesp.com/faq.php I checked these three dealers because they were the most recommended in forums I checked. Remember, if they are not in your state of residence, you will probable not have to pay sales tax. That saved me $148.00 alone!
  23. When I signed into the SMR and checked updates, there was a link to check to order the A4 card. Mine was delivered the next day. If you can't find the link, try calling your dealer and see if they have one in stock. They are provided free of charge and you should show you have not been sent one.
  24. Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for but couldn't find! I also found the "enhanced" trip information I was looking for to see my real time fuel usage. On a side note, it looks like you might have done your first DIY oil change according to your oil life monitor?
