Fram TG3600 Problem

Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced any problems with the Fram Tough Guard TG3600. This was my first oil change with the 08 Edge and changed everything started the car just to hear some noise and see oil going everywhere from the filter. Filter looks fine but I think it blew out the seal, even though it looks fine. I know everything was done right (this isn't my first rodeo) just woundering if there is a problem with the fram 3600 for the edge the top of the filter looks alot different then the motorcraft filter (that I now have and $48 for one oil change later) or did I just have some sh**ty luck?

I do not know if you are using the correct part number, but if you are, check to see if the rubber seal from the old filter was stuck to the engine. Make sure the new filter seal is pressed into its groove. Use oil only on the rubber seal and tighten 3/4 turn after good contact of the filter and mating surface. If the filter application is in question compare the diameters of the rubber seals and the threaded hole. On a separate note, Fram would be the last choice for a filter. Use a Motorcraft, Purolator or NAPA.

I'm also gonna go with the old filter gasket stuck to the block . Kind of embarrassing but I've been there and done that myself.

I'm going with this one too... I've done it myself in a rush. And shamefully, I have used Fram before too... But never on the Edge and never will.

Ā

Trust everyone else above on this one: FRAM sucks.

I used a fram filter on our Edge and the damn pleats came apart and were almost sucked into the intake. I know a friend who used a fram oil filter and after 500 miles the filter looked like it was crushed by andre the giant.....may he rest in peace !

At how many miles on the filter? Did it get wet?

Why not? What actual problems have you or any of you other "experts" had with a Fram Filter?

Ā

Hereā€™s a pretty good filter test, by some "experts."

Notice ACDelco failed.

Hereā€™s the gradesheet.

Ā

Note to self: Next oil/filter change use Mobil1 filter.

Ā

I already use Mobil1 oil.

Fram often make filters that will fit your car and will interchange in their book, but will not meet manufacturer's build. Case in point, Volvo filters have a back flow valve intended to keep oil primed in the filter for start up. Fram does not include this in their version, which can lead to valvetrain wear due to lack of oil pressure during the first instant of startup.

Have you been able to find one anywhere? I ended up getting the K&N filter.

I changed the oil/filter last month.

But will be buying a M1-209 next time, here or ???

I've been using Fram filters for almost 30 years and have never had an issue.

I too used them for years with no problems, NOT sure how that worked for the next owners?

I even used a few with Teflon in them, evidently THAT was not a good idea.

From the test results, it looks like the Fram XG5 is the obvious choice---
