Short but authoritive article of how oil monitoring systems work. https://www.edmunds.com/car-care/oil-life-monitoring-systems.html

Here in the states the recommended fluid change interval is 60,000 miles if towing trailer, running on dusty roads, excessive idling such as taxi, police, etc. or off-road driving. Under normal schedules, the PTU fluid must be changed anytime the unit has been submerged. Also goes on to state that the use of fluids not meeting Ford spec are to be changed at 3,000 miles.

2013 SEL - where to find 12v line linked to ignition
enigma-2 replied to roadkill401's topic in Accessories & Modifications
The delay I was referring to was power stays on until it times out or you open a door. Same as the interior lighting circuit. -

Mine are manual - never use them. Imports folded since thd 70s, easier then shipping loose. -
No, not really. It started its life as a snowbird and towed boats. When I bought it, it had 80k or (don't remember now), and I waited about a year before hitting the threads on the PTUs. It didn't really fsil, the tech found a small leak (nothing on garage floor) and suggested they replace the seal (which is what I thought they did). Service record shows that it's a non-serviceable unit so the replaced entire unit. (Only has about 10K since, don't drive much any more.)I discussed the fluid changes with the Service Manager (NOT the service rep) and he felt 30k was adaquate. (Also asked about differential and he said no, no need as it's not a convenial rear end.)

2013 SEL - where to find 12v line linked to ignition

Excellent write up. Like to add that there is an easier way to power a radar detector or dash cam, that being to use a Mirror Tap harness and plug it into the rearview mirror connector. Powers on with the car, off (with delay) when car off and door opens. Takes only a few minutes and easy to install. Here's an example of one style: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW7MGSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NgMYAbADGZ8G2 ($40 but you can buy China brand for less yhan $20). -
The IDS is a PC based OBD2 Scan Tool that utilizes a USB equipped PC. PID is an acronym for (P)arameter (ID)s These are codes used to request data from a vehicle, used as a diagnostic tool. Many codes are common between all car manufacturers, and some are specific to Ford alone. Basically the work order is saying the technician connected the USB cable to the car, connected a laptop with a diagnostic program and read the fault codes stored or recorded while the engine is running. To be reimbursed by Ford, the dealer is required to describe the mode of failure in a specific way (so they can track failures).

I have AWD, had the PTU replaced last year under extended warranty. Also have the lubricant changed by local dealer every 30k. (Although I haven't changed it since it was replaced).

Here's a Youtube video on how to replace the sensor in a Lincoln Zephyr (simular aren't they??) Anyway, as Mac stated, you have to pull the instrument cluster to get to it.
-
Do you feel that you really need AWD? Plenty of folks here (Northern Indiana) that get around just fine with FWD.

RDS on the instrument panel right screen?

Interesting, thanks. -
RDS on the instrument panel right screen?
enigma-2 replied to omar302's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
Ok. On the 09 MKX they referred to it as the Radio Broadcast Data System. They must have decided to rename it in the Edge. -
Are you happy with Edge? Would you buy Edge again?
enigma-2 replied to t0lkman's topic in Owner Impressions
Great. I just got over 8-track's. I suppose they'll discontinue cassettes next. -

enigma-2 replied to omar302's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
On my Gen-1, 2009 MKX I get RBDS (think that's what you're referring to) when it's turned on, on the radio display. Can't speak to Gen-1.5. -
Was finishing up my inspection today, ready to get back into the car and happened to think of this thread. Looked down at my wheel well and it hit me, why not install mud flaps? Cover the opening completely and real chick magnet. (At least for me, every time I pull in the local retirement community).

They use them for the come-alongs used to hold down aboard ship. Same reason the mirrors fold, park closer together for shipping. -
Amazing, way to go ?

I'm curious, why would it be engine mounts when tbe engine isn't running? (Assume it wasn't running as you stated "restarted"). One thing that can cause periodic vibration at "idle", engine running or not, are the radiator cooling fans. If a blade is unbalanced, you could hear a hum and feel the vibration. (It's been My experience with bad mounts, they get worse when driving, depending on engine load). It's not normal for them to fail, I had a set replaced on a car years ago and they were horrible. The mechanic used NAPA ans I made him replace with OEM. All problems went away. So one question you could ask is, did they use Motorcraft or aftermarket?

Fluttering Noise from Undercarriage and Dashboad Rattle
enigma-2 replied to CCMAYES72's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Great video. I couldn't help but wonder if the buffeting from wind under the car will eventually work the "U" shaped pieces out; requiring this fix to be done over again. Believe if it were me, I would use plastic garden hose washers. Thick enough and would never come out, but it would require pulling the screw out to install. (Never have to do it again though).- 90 replies

Tow Hooks, 2016 Edge
enigma-2 replied to Further North's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Most likely the old fashioned way, by wrapping a chain around the rear axle. If all they have is the front, probably some frame part, whatever they can reach. What else can they do? -
I'm not certain as what the screws are for, but when you pull the plastic bezel the front part that surrounds the radio and top.part that contains the tray are all one piece and come off without tools. Easy way to check is to pull the plastic shroud (as if your replacing the radio) and see what the screws are for. Most everyone else uses a windshield mount. (Keep it near the mirror and you can use a MirrorTap harness to power the camera - turns on and off with the radio).

The short answer is yes. (At least on a 2007 Fusion, which is simular). Heh. See video:
