Fluttering Noise from Undercarriage and Dashboad Rattle
1004ron replied to CCMAYES72's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Anyone know how to remove the plastic fasteners? I used a long nose pliers and pulled down on the tab in the center, and the tab came off.- 90 replies

Fluttering Noise from Undercarriage and Dashboad Rattle
1004ron replied to CCMAYES72's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
My wrapping string around the fasteners did the trick for quite some time, but the rattle is back. I'll check with my local dealership to see if they'll take care of this, with my mileage at 39K. Wonder if my extended warranty that I bought from the dealership at the time of purchase for around $2K would cover this - anyone know? If they don't, I'll just go ahead and spend $18 for a set of the new fasteners on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/H2GZ-19E525-A-FORD-AIR-DEFLECTOR-KIT-OF-5-GROMMET-W718544-S300/123707187039?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140131123730%26meid%3D15510b3ba8bd4cb3a7badedda97757c0%26pid%3D100167%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D113295542539%26itm%3D123707187039&_trksid=p5411.c100167.m2940- 90 replies

This could be related to R&D, but unlikely.

Thanks for this informative post. I'm happy with the the original brakes performance and was planning to stick with OEM pads, but recently I've been reconsidering that. My 2017 Sport with 21" wheels is at two years and 39K miles, and since a couple of months ago I've notice and heard a slight vibration from the front when applying brakes at 70 mph, but below 50 mph its quiet and smooth - this had me start searching for a way to address this slight vibration and this led me to your post. When I checked the pads at 36K miles they still had around 50% material left, but will be installing a Power Stop kit before they're actually due for replacement because of the vibration - a shame to spend money on this when the pads have so much material left on them. I'm thinking of just doing the front with the Power Stop K7143 and the $15 rebate which makes it $159 https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2017,edge,2.7l+v6+turbocharged,3434543,brake+&+wheel+hub,rotor+&+brake+pad+kit,13824 Please confirm that it is the 345mm Front Rotors.

Ford to offer SmartLink OBD add-on for pre-17 models?

Sorry if I missed it, but could you tell us what it cost to purchase, install/setup, and monthly fees? -
I've only done two oil changes on my wife's 2015 V6 3.7L Mustang and haven't found a way to avoid the mess changing its oil filter - I'm keen to see what the filter drain looks like.
-
Good analysis and conclusion, but I'll just stick with the original plug which is still serving me well.

These two would lighten your wallet, which will of course result in more speed. My sport is 2 years old and 39K miles, and no issues with the original plastic drain plug. https://www.cjponyparts.com/upr-oil-pan-drain-plug-billet-f-150-ecoboost-2015-2019-f-150-raptor-2017-2018/p/HW4228/?year=2018&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4fHkBRDcARIsACV58_GE9Nt20vLXcZLvasszi-uxYK14mIfMf3kib-v7CVh0g6noG9MM4GIaArkxEALw_wcB https://roninfactory.com/collections/ford/products/ford-f150-raptor-oil-drain-ronin-factory

Yours looks great !!!! My hood is badly acid etched from my place of work and was thinking of doing the whole hood with a black vinyl wrap - what do you think that would cost?

Sounds like you have a decision to make, accept the advice of the folks here, the dealership service advisor (not a qualified mechanic), or your own gut feel. Changing the fluid is an easy job, and there's many reports here of dealerships doing this oil change for customers.

The green paint marks are a factory quality check indication to the inspector that the plugs have been tightened/torqued - no way they can be used to tell if the plugs were removed - the orange color is a thread sealant. The salesman is talking BS about the tires putting the PTU at risk, seeing at the Rear Drive Unit uses a clutch to engage it, and he's also bullshitting about running the oil in the PTU to 100K miles. I changed my PTU oil to a good quality synthetic at 5K miles and will do so every 20-30K miles.

If an impact wrench is used, a Torque Stick will not protect these lug nuts.

Collected lug nuts from dealership today - took three weeks - service manager said Ford are having trouble meeting demand.

Big time swirls in black paint ?
1004ron replied to John Rom's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
My black 2017 Sport is the same after weekly car washes. I tried the contactless car washes, but the type of dirt on my car isn't removed by these, whereas it does work with my wife's car, so worth trying them. A good wax helps to some degree, but didn't seem to do much for mine. I would not use compound, unless you plan on following up with a polishing paste. -
Yesterday when shopping for a cabin filter for my wife's S550 Mustang, I checked these out in Walmart, and they're really well made, and on special for $14. FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter, CF11775

Seeing as I only used the radio for my work commute I don't believe it cost effective to extend it past the initial free 6 months - I only listen to classic rock, and have two good radio stations in my area for that. Be careful when declining the Sirius service - the associate almost cancelled my free 5 year traffic as well.
-
If that's the case, the PTU has most likely suffered as a result, ......... but hard to predict how badly, or what life is left in it.
-
I changed my cabin filter today, and went with the activated carbon ATP FA-21, but might stick with OEM seeing as it has almost twice the number of pleats which means larger filter medium area. Last changed one year ago and would be good for a good few more months. OEM on the right.

When I recently bought my wife's 2015 Mustang from a private individual, CarFax did not show all the oil changes, so I waited for the seller to get copies of the service record from Bill Collins Ford, and only after confirmation that its service record was good did I make my decision to purchase - with all the electronic records etc. these days it reduces the risk buying used. Below is my Sport's records showing my DIY and the Dealership services.

Yours sounds like a fluid change will do a whole lot of good, compared to some who hope it would "repair" the transmission.
-
As Omar states, the tire warranty is with the tire manufacturer, and they'd cover it if there's no sign of impact damage etc. Contact Pirelli https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/car-light-truck/contact-us

Loss of brakes-Part II - The Smoking Gun....
1004ron replied to quincy's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
The whole story sounds more like BS, with zero links to any article, TSB or recall on Ford Edge's. -
When I left work this afternoon the NAV screen froze and the voice commands also stopped working. Hit the NAV icon at the bottom of the screen and it did not respond and switch from the home screen to NAV. I stopped twice on the way home and turned off the vehicle and started again and each time it did the same, then about two hours after arriving home I tried it again and everything is working normal. Before I left work I got word that there was an accident on the interstate, so wanted to use to NAV to reroute me, ...... Is this a sign of imminent system problems?
