Would love an opinion on this potential buy
STBEAST replied to mattyb's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I too would pass on a rental/lease. I have had a lot of rentals over the years and although I was never overly abusive, I know that during the rental life of the vehicle, there were people who were. Some people just don't care. I also feel that rental companies are far from proactive on maintenance. I am sure that they pushed the boundaries of the scheduled maintenance. On more than one occasion I would get a rental with the low tire or oil change reminder alert. Stay Clear! -
Radio now turns on by itself on every start
STBEAST replied to Davidoo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Will2U hit the nail on the head. Sync 4 does weird stuff. Most of it is relatively minor, but still irritating. Mine will occasionally lock up, phone calls have no voice or very static. At least the sound system comes back to what you had on before. Be thankful for that, I guess. Way too much crap on these new cars for sure. Too many modules! It would be nice if they kept the Navigation, music and phone all separate instead of merging everything together. -
Thanks, Haz! My 2024 Edge has been having the phone issue and 2-4 times it has locked up. Once or twice, it did a reboot and when it locked up, I held down the power button and fast forward button (about 7 seconds) to do a manual reboot. When I have the phone issue (which is very random) I hang up and call back, and it seems to work fine. I don't use Car Play so I don't have that issue. Also when I transition from one screen to another, for example from navigation to music, I will sometimes get a buzzing sound about one to two seconds long. Overall the system seems to be working ok and none of it is life threatening, other than the fact it is a bit irritating and should not be happening to a new vehicle. I am glad to hear they are working on a fix!

Panoramic Sunroof Cracked
STBEAST replied to Sierra's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
I am a bit confused. I would assume for liability reasons; the sunroof glass is safety glass. What is the difference between tempered and safety glass? Also, I see very few posts about cracked sunroof glass. I am thinking that 90 percent of all Edges never have this happen. Other than something hitting the glass what would cause this. Maybe in Freezing climates? -
I have a 2024 Edge and there is a rattle coming from inside the rear cargo door, inside where the rear windshield wiper is. I need to gain access to that area by removing the big panel that covers this area. It looks like it is an easy task, but I don't want to break any clips or retainers. Any help is appreciated. thanks

You can't use the engine for braking. The Edge is too heavy, and the engine is too small. It works a tiny bit but not much. Drive it like you stole it and enjoy the heck out of it.
-
I wouldn't worry about it. These new cars do all kinds of crazy things. My 21 Edge ST did similar things with no warning. I just traded in for a 2024 and even it does weird crap. Drive it, enjoy it, use sport mode when you feel like it, double tap the ESC button to put the Advance Trac into sport mode and enjoy the ride!

In the States they changed the tips to distinguish between the Edge Sport and the (new) ST. There is a 2019 YouTube video (The Fast Lane Car) Highlighting the top 10 differences between the two. I was surprised how many changes were made to make it an ST. Seems the new exhaust tips were icing on the cake. Not sure why they chose to keep the Sport tips on your ST. Maybe a different assembly line and not cost effective to make certain changes?

Wubster100, would it be worth it to take the vehicle into a dealer and have them do a complete fluid change? I don't know how much it would cost and I have a hard time trusting dealerships, but it might be worth it. Would love to see you make it to the 200k mark. Jim

I know I am late chiming in on this, but I bought a new 2021 Edge St and around 2000 miles I noticed the transmission started to do some really weird things. If I accelerated aggressively from a dead stop, it would slam from 1st to 2nd. Felt like the transmission was going to drop out of the bottom of the car. The other issue was when enjoying Sport Mode, you would occasionally here a SCREECH when it would shift gears (somewhere between 2nd and 4th gear. It was about 1-2 seconds long. You only heard it; you didn't feel anything. The final issue was in reverse. When in reverse it felt like there was a delay, then surge when you would accelerate. After multiple trips to the dealer, they ended up replacing the transmission shift control module. It seemed to help the issue, but the reverse issue was the same. I never felt comfortable after the buck/slam issue. At 12K I ended up trading in for a 2024 Edge St. Only after driving the 2024 (I am at 2800 miles) did realize the 2021 had a serious transmission issue. I think there may be a class action lawsuit on this. Not sure on the specific issues though. When I brought the car in last week for the first oil change, the service writer noticed me I told him I traded the 2021 for a 2024. He asked me if Ford bought my old vehicle back!š I should have pushed for a new vehicle!

Tail Light Moisture Condensation 2019-2024
STBEAST replied to Wubster100's topic in 2019-Current Edge & Nautilius
My 2024 Edge St has/had the same thing in the driver's side rear light assy. Seems most of it has gone away, but I will check it and give an update. Other than cosmetic I don't think it would hurt the LEDS. I have heard of people drilling a small hole in the base of the light, but I don't know if that is a good strategy. -
Insert for compartment located on console
STBEAST replied to Keith1341's topic in 2019-Current Edge & Nautilius
My 2021 St had no forward passthrough insert and no hood insulator blanket. It did come with the cupholder inserts. I bought them from ford and they had no explanation, -
2019 edge st 2019 Edge ST--replaced the odd-shaped exhaust tips
STBEAST replied to Jombi's topic in Accessories & Modifications
What makes the ST stand out is the unique exhaust tips. They are one of a kind. And they look awesome! I don't want mine to look like an Edge Sport. With an ST badge? I -
Yes. You will see it in the Cities. The larger the city, the more you will see. Regular around town driving doesn't reveal much at all. Not sure how the technology works, but it is amazing. I live in California and about 2 months ago took a trip to Los Angeles. It is almost surreal the way it looks.

Seems crazy to have such a great feature and have to jump through hoops to get to it. Calm screen is genius! I am starting to like it more than all the other screens.
-
I've tried it and it does not work. I think I have tried everything I can think of. It's such a great feature. too bad it's not easy to get to.
-
The problem is all of the newer vehicles have gotten so complex, even the dealers (and certified technicians) can't figure out the problem. Wait 15-20 years down the road and they don't even know how to figure it out.
-
I don't want to wait for it to happen and do a reboot. A lot different than sitting at home waiting for my laptop to reboot. I am doing 80 miles an hour, and this could happen. A bit dangerous to say the least! Do you enjoy your computer when it locks up. No. The best way to enjoy your ride is to know something like this is not going to happen.

Wow. Good to know! Thanks, Haz. I have a 2024 ST with 1600 miles on it. I have probably used the ACC about a half dozen times and so far, no issue. Is there a way to know if my vehicle is affected, or do we have to wait for this issue to happen? Time will tell ? I am taking the vehicle in for the first oil change around 2000 miles. Should I ask them to check if my vehicle is affected by this? Thanks for the advice. Jim

Thanks for that information. But I do notice the AWD system (via the AWD screen) being much more active when in this mode. It becomes less front wheel drive biased when in sport mode and activates the AWD at a much lower threshold. Any explanation of this would be helpful.
-
I saw a video showing how when you 'double tap' the ESC button on a 2019-2024 Edge ST (and possibly even the other models), it puts the Advancetrac into Sport Mode. A totally separate feature than pushing the sport mode (S button) on the rotary shift dial. There is not much information on this feature (none in the owner's manual), but it seems to have a notable effect on engaging the AWD, making it much more active. I monitored the AWD screen while trying out this 'hidden' mode and could see a difference throughout the driving range. It seems this mode would be very beneficial during inclement weather and off pavement. I have played with it quite a bit and I believe many Edge St owners don't even know it Exists. It may have been mentioned in previous topics, but sometimes searching for a topic on this forum can be a challenge. Hope some of you get to read this valuable info. and wonder if this feature applies to the 2.0 Edge 2019+. Happy Easter egg!

I have a 2024 Edge St. I have read where the rear axle disconnects from the system (when not needed) to save fuel. I am curious on how this system works. I am guessing the PTU and RDU would both have to disconnect the rear axle to achieve this? How do they do this? Thanks.
-
I have a 2024 Edge ST. I plan on doing fluid changes on both the PTU and RDU around 20K. From all the horror stories I have read (mostly PTU), do you think this is a good service interval and what fluid should I use. I have heard about this 'Red Line Shock Proof' being the best fluid but was hoping to get some feedback on this. Thanks so much for any advice. Jim
-
Sounds like PTU but could be either one. Sometimes sounds can travel (shafts, couplers etc.) making it sound like it's coming from a different area. From all the reading on PTU's I would think that to be the issue. Since it is whining but still engaging, there is a chance changing the fluid could be the case. I wouldn't drive it until you can get the fluids changes in both units. Hopefully, you get lucky, and a fluid change fixes it. Someone else will respond who knows more than I do about this issue.
