Omar,

Can you explain more about "Auto"?

Does it read the temps out side and adjust accordingly? I have had my car since Thanksgiving and only remote start when its fooking cold out. I have NOT made any changes so I assume its defaulted at 'auto'. When I get in my Edge after a few moments I notice the seats are warmish and the air blowing seems warm....which is very nice. I too wondered about tweaking settings on remote start to make the seats default to a hotter setting.

So I suppose i am asking, How exactly does Auto setting work?

As you said, it depends on the outside temperature reading. I don't know the outside tempreture values upon which the seats cool or heat. But searching online found this, for other Fords, though it might not be applicable to other models:

Manual climate control

For hot weather conditions:

• The climate control system will be set to MAX A/C.

For cold weather conditions:

• The climate control system will be set to provide maximum heating

in (floor/defrost) mode.

• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be activated.

For moderate weather conditions:

• The interior cabin will be heated, cooled or off, based upon the

previous operating state (last ignition-on cycle).

• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be deactivated.

Automatic climate control

For hot weather conditions:

• The interior cabin will be cooled to 72°F (22°C).

• The cooled seats (if equipped and if the feature is selected to AUTO

in the message center) will be set to high.

For cold weather conditions:

• The interior cabin will be heated to 72°F (22°C).

• The heated seats (if equipped and if the feature is selected to AUTO

in the message center) will be set to high.

• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be activated.

For moderate weather conditions:

• The interior cabin will be heated, cooled, or off, based upon the

previous operating state (last ignition-on cycle).

• Heated/cooled seats (if equipped) will be deactivated.

• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be deactivated.

From the 2011 Ford HD trucks:

Seats

When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature, the driver/passenger climate controlled seat activates in full heat mode when the outside temperature is less than 32° F (0° C) and full cool mode when outside temperature is greater than 80° F (27° C).

Mirrors

When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature and the outside temperature is less than 32° F (0° C), the heated mirrors will be activated.

Rear Defroster

When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature and the outside temperature is less than 32° F (0° C), the rear defroster will be activated.

look in systems to see if it is an admin key....if there has been no admin key issued then that might be why you cant access that part of the system.

I checked mine and both fobs are set as admin. Just no ability to access the remote start climate controls.

Not to hijack..Is everyone else getting 10 mins of run time before you have to restart?

Yes I believe that is the default setting. You can change that to 5 or 15 minutes also. If you want it to run for 20 minutes do this:

1. Remote start

2. After green light shows it has started...

3. Do the same sequence again.

This will now add 10 more minutes to the warm up time.

I have the same issue where it is grayed out and cannot adjust the top two settings. Next trip to dealer will be asking about this.

Hopefully you'll get a better response to the problem.

So far the service departments just give one of these -->

Have same issue on my 15 Edge, can anyone shed some light if their dealer was able to resolve this issue? I had an 11 Edge and the clime control worked perfect in cold weather. The 15 does not, very frustrating that the dealer says it is normal. This forum and I know it is not.

Any input is appreciated.

I'm still finding my way around our '16 Edge, but I notice that my remote start (in cold weather, -13c/3F) the cabin warms up but the seat isn't on. The manual has procedures for hot, cold and moderate temperature conditions but doesn't explicitly identify what temperatures it classes as cold. My assumption is -13c/8F would be cold.

Under my cluster, I have 'system' and something else. My heated seats work fine as does the Remote Start, it's just annoying that when I get into the vehicle, the cabin is warm but the seat is freezing cold.

Could we use Forscan to manipulate this? Coming from the VW world, VAGCOM would let me turn on and off available options or at least present them to the cluster so I could then select it from there on next restart.

Under remote start climate settings, make sure you have it set to "auto". This will ensure the heated seats come on when it is that cold outside.

No dice, this morning it was -19 and heated seats weren't on. Everything is sets to auto and the climate was on full. I'll check again for tomorrow, but it was already at auto for everything. (I also have a tickbox for 'system' which is ticked).

What is the outside temp registering/displaying as on your MFT screen?

Just to make sure this isn't a subjective problem, be aware that the seat lights will not illuminate when remote started.

So, are you noticing the seats are cold or that the light is not on? You seem certain that all the IPC menu settings are correct, so we will eliminate that as the problem. At that low of a temperature it may be hard to tell.

You can try a simple fix first and reboot the sync system (remove and replace the cable bundle plug going into the mini fuse panel under the steering wheel, driver's side kick panel).

Ultimately, it may require a service visit.

ok. This is news to me - so, it may be that they are heating, i'm just assuming the lights should be on. My concern stems primarily from the heated seat status lights not being on and slightly based on the fact that they are chilly when I sit in them, however from my time with my Jetta and leather (with no remote start) I do understand that they can take a while to actually heat up - so yeah, it was mainly the absence of the status light.

Your other comment about resetting the system answers my other question (Does 'master reset' on the SYNC screen reset the whole system or just the SYNC part, seems to be just the SYNC part).

Verified the settings last night. One last thing, if the seat lights do not come on and I then get in the car and press the start button, would they not suddenly light up or does the Remote Start settings program 'end' once I actually start the vehicle (e.g. I notice when I press the start button, the fan speed decreases). This would also explain why the heated steering wheel icon is not activated when I go into that setting once I actually start the car when I'm inside.

I think i'm going to start the car earlier tomorrow and check it out.

thanks - this has been a great help :2thumbs:

2016 Sport here. The seat heater lights DO NOT come on when you start the car from remote start. You need to manually turn them on. I guess the engineers figured that you are in the car and gave you control. They could have just as well left them on and give you control. Who knows what they are thinking.

The remote start climate settings are independent from your cabin settings once the car is remotely started. Remote settings are designed to help you get relief (sometimes significant) from the outside environment Extremely cold outside? Lets get you warm. Extremely hot? Lets cool you down. If neither is the case, then you can have 72 degrees (something near that set point).

Once you get inside is when you would start the car and fine tune the temp to your liking.

The seats would need to be reactivated once you start the car. This is the same in my 2012.

My pleasure. I do notice that the seats are toasty right about 8-10 minutes into a remote start (as long as the outside temp calls for them to be activated).

My '15 Edge (purchased Aug. '15) is experiencing the same problem. The only option I can't get to is the climate control settings under the remote start menu. The problem just started this winter it has worked fine previously, cool in the summer, warm in the winter including the seats. Now the climate control seems to be in the "last set" mode when I remote start the car. All the other options work as they are supposed to. Been trying to find the time to get to the dealer to get it looked at. It's nice to know I'm not losing my mind.

You can always restart the system. Actually, easiest way is to pull negative battery cable for a few minutes and then put it back on.

See if that helps before you give $$ to the dealer.

My 2008 MKX starts honking the horn and flashing the lights when you hit the remote start button,it honks the horn twice and then instead of starting it honks the horn and flashes the lights until I press the panic button, then it stops but unless I put the key in the ignition and hold the remote start button for 5 seconds the car seems to be in suspended animation mode, any thoughts of a fix without going to a electrical specialist??

I believe it usually means that one of the doors are not closed. Possibly a door switch is going bad.
