Ventilated/cooled seats in the 2016 fixed?

Recommended Posts

For me:

Bottom of seats cool when the AC system is running, backs do not

When the AC system is off, the backs cool, the bottoms do not

I am beyond confused.

Going to have my dealer take a look soon, just concerned about seat damage as other posters have been.

Took my 2016 Ford Edge Sport into the dealership today because the back of my seats didn't feel like they were cooling. After a day in the shop, the service advisor called to tell me that the seats are working as designed. Cooling to 50 degrees on the bottom and 70 degrees on the back. I told him that I didn't feel any air coming from the back or cooling at all and he said he didn't know what to tell me. My Edge was built 5/16 after the service bulletin... I guess I should send a complaint to Ford?

Known problem. There is a TSB but most say it doesn't work. You're pretty much stuck with the way they work until Ford redesigns it sometime next year (hopefully). There is a person on the f150 forums who 3D printed a part that supposedly works much better but it's expensive and you have to install it yourself or pay somebody.

I had the TSB performed and didn't solve the problem. Owning a F150 with cooled seats, I was intimately aware of the issue and the fact the seats are almost identical. There is a lot of discussion of the problem on the F150Forum, which led to someone finally coming up with a solution.

I installed Tim's fix and it did solve it. Thanks alot, Ford. Why did I have to buy components to resolve YOUR warranty issue.

This is a link to his site. SeatGuru It can be fixed, but unfortunately, it isn't inexpensive.

After all  these years and summer almost here I'm looking at improving the backrest cooling.

See below F150 thread on the topic - is this still the best option?

I downloaded the 3D printer file from the link and will ask a friend to print it for me.

The fix posted is only for the intake side so that it can take in cooler air. But the exhaust would remain to the seat back cavity, so eventually the seat back will heat up to a point where it can no longer be cooled by the TED. The best fix is to have both, intake & exhaust routed outside the seat back.

However, your Edge is a 2017 model. Midway in 2016 Ford added a "sock" for the intake so it can take in air from under the seat. So your Edge is good on the intake side. To improve your seat back cooling you need the exhaust side. Unfortunately, the guy (Tim) who used to sell those kits doesn't seem to sell them anymore. But I remember some F150 owners making their own fixes using duct tape and tubing. But I couldn't find any searching now.

Also, the F150 thread you linked talks about another issue some are facing with their seats, it is an electrical issue, if it happens causes the whole cooling/heating function to stop.

Thanks @omar302

Now that you mention it I can see what appears to be that "sock" without pulling the upholstery up.

I only use the seat cooling for 5 minutes max 10 minutes and can feel the seat cooling and very minimal on the backrest - I can hear the backrest fan running.

Now to search for the MacGyver fix for  the exhaust.

Searching I came up with the below threads, and still searching for the 3D print files so that my friend can do those for me.
