H.I.D upgrade.
candurin replied to Msl558's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
6K is a very poor choice if your looking for brightness or usable light. The more blue you go, the more light you lose. -

Yup. 9005 or 9006 is fine. Bulb has no effect on hi/lo shutter. -
Adding an OEM backup camera to a 2013 SEL non-MyTouch
candurin replied to Edge13's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The camera part number is BT4Z-19G490-B. Not sure if the stock wiring is already installed in the non-camera vehicles. -
I soldered pins to a phone cord (with an inline fuse on the power pin) for my passport RD (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102864) with no issues. Just keep in mind that if you use the green wire on the mirror, your radar detector will turn off when you go into reverse (as the mirror turns off to prevent auto dimming when you back up). I don't recall which wire I pinned into, but mine only turns on and off with the ignition (I did it over a year ago). The pictures are lousy, but the pins are really snug and secure and have not budged since install.

Ok... $125 for the v1 DTBLs and $75 for the grill... Or throw some offers at me.
-
I know Dan mentioned specs, but, as I have been a very fond user of both versions and have seen both of them illuminate my white garage door many times... I think the v1 is perceptually brighter as it has a vertically concentrated single light pattern and more "group" focused LEDs. If you look at the beam pattern on the v1s, it is a single focused vertical hotspot. They are also closer to 4500-5000k in color. V2s are definitely closer to 6000k (if not slightly above) in color. The light also has a much wider horizontal spread of individual vertical beams (imagine a prism) and therefore perceptually is not as bright. The beam pattern is much less "group" focused than v1 as they are really individual beams of light from each led. Admittedly, I think the brightestt light (just my opinion) would be the v1 Phillips module with v2s amber turn signal. It's hard to compare "brightness" as the beam pattern and color temp are quite different. Very difficult to compare apples to apples. But, lets summarize... V1s were twice as much as v2s (thanks Dan! ) and both are a tremendous improvement to OEM. You can't go wrong either way. Again, this is just my $0.02 and you'd be prudent to buy any of Dan's products!

Go with the morimoto kit. I am thrilled with mine. No flickering issues in over a year of usage.

I actually sounds like you wired them to parking lights.... But I can't imagine that's even plausible.

Also, 4300K is the ideal color for lumens and light clarity (for a lack of better term) and is the closest to pure "white". Any higher and you start to introduce a blue hue. This is at 35W. 55W kits use the identical bulbs as 35W kits, but run at a higher wattage (obviously). This 20-30% increase in wattage causes a brighter hotspot in the lights and therefore washes out some of the color temp in the lights. Basically a 5000k bulb at 55W will look more like a 4300k (4500 actually) driven at 35W. A 6000k bulb driven at 55W will appear like a 5200k or so bulb driven at 35W and so on.... Your best bet is 4300k @ 35w or 5000k at 55W if you want white light.

Thank you for your service! You really don't need a wire harness for the 35w kits (It wouldn't hurt though). A 55w kit from any manufacturer puts additional stress on the OEM wiring. In order to take the strain off the factory wiring, a after market wire harness is recommended in order to provide direct power from the battery to the new ballasts and igniters (bypassing the smaller gauge factory wires). Just make sure you get a quality heavy duty harness (note: not a fan of the flimsy DDM wiring harness) for the higher wattage ballasts.

HID beam pattern
candurin replied to Gabe McClintock's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Why the need to adjust? The projector beam pattern shouldn't have changed from halogen to HID (assuming you didn't bump anything). Cellbine, granted you have a completely new lens assembly, so you get a pass Gabe, your pattern looks OK. Taking a beam pattern from that close to a wall will make it look like yours. If you back away a bit and take a look, the cut-off lines should be more pronounced and even. Ultimately, you have to keep in mind that we are using halogen projectors with HIDs, so the beam pattern will vary from the OEM HID projectors. Which size kit did you install? 9005 or 9006?- 25 replies

Ford Edge Vertical LED DAYTIME Running Lights - IN STOCK
candurin replied to kc300c's topic in Classifieds
Literally, if you can use a socket or a wrench, you can have these installed in under 20 minutes. The scotchloks (included) make the electrical connection a breeze (simply use pliers to squeeze shut). Dan provides great support. His videos explain it all and he's even available via phone to help out as well. It's a VERY easy install, even if you can't hang a picture- 31 replies

Just the primed grill...

Seems ok. Amazon has a great return policy, should you not like them. 6000k will be bluish in color (icy white/silver/blue kind of color).

You can always buy a ddm kit and a TRS harness off eBay (should be $20-25).

Canada edge will need a canbus harness. US edges (CA exluded) do not. I'm a big TRS Morimoto fan. They offer either harness with any HID kit.

Don't get 8k temp. Unless you really want purple headlights. They'll look and function like . If you go with 55w get a wire harness as well. 55w is about 20-30% brighter than 35w. As a result, it will bring the color temp down a bit due to the more intense hotspot in the light pattern (e.g. A 5k bulb driven at 55w will look more like 4300k). Yes, you can use a 9006 or 9005 kit.

I installed this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004R2ZW3M/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Took me 30 minutes or so (maybe less). Here's a great write up: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/10789-draw-tite-install-on-my-2012-edge/ I did not connect a wiring harness.

You have a few options but there are two popular options: 1. You can buy one from a BMW mini (that's the option I chose). 2. http://www.cravenspeed.com/products/The-Stubby-Antenna.html
