  1. I have one of the Scion bumper guards installed on my Edge and there two things that the rest of the type "A" personalities out there will want to know about. 1) the leading edge of the guard is not the same radius as the bumper/body of the edge. Its shallower. Which is good because you can always trim off .. you can't easily trim on. I removed about 8-10mm a the center of the guard in a smooth arc terminating at about the 3rd or 4th ridge in the guard. This was almost perfect. (yea, that bugs me. but as I get older, I learn to deal with the little things better) 2) what others have mentioned was the the trailing edge that wraps down over the edge of the bumper providing good protection also does not match perfectly. The Edge as a small, short 45` bevel from the top flat surface to the vertical back surface. The guard is a tight radius 90` so there is a small triangle area that is an open void.
  2. after doing a quick search of TPMS it would appear that most of them do individual tire pressure, as well as temperature. Even monitoring the spare tire ! There are several that even have extra transmitters to monitor tandems and semi trailers. I actually would be surprised if the ford transmitters didn't have pressure and temp data tracked. But now this brings up a cool idea for some enterprising individual. An after market device that would interface with factory TPMS transmitters and provide supplemental data to the driver. Unless Ford is the only one who've dropped the ball .. then it would be a limited target market.
  3. with technology as cool and amazing as it is now days .. I think like many others and not unreasonably so, that there would be some kind of read out on the dash. Or if nothing else, WHICH tire is the culprit. From the stand point of a complete design, its taking that one or two extra steps to complete the design. Ford dropped the ball on a good opportunity to go beyond. Mazda or Toyota (can't remember who) took one more step by teaching the car to honk its horn when the tire is at pressure. $140.00 for Orange Electronic's P409S system gets you a smart phone sized device that gives you individual tire pressures and it goes red at defined levels. Not hating .. just saying .. they [Ford design] could have gone that one more step and OP's question was not that far off base to warrant a "seriously".
  4. Cool - some one(s) confirmed my observation albeit in a different thread. Here a are few other observations related to this. 1) Note when you first get to the pass code entry screen the lights that are going to light up when you press them for the kybd are already "glowing" but not lit. 2) you start off in numeric input, switch to the "ghosted" keyboard and then back to the numeric keypad, its not ghosted and not available. 3) Buttons now have "glow" on the last button pressed, but not "lit". Besides this I'm now having BT/phone connection issues that I never had before. Does anyone know if we can go back to 3.2.2 ?
  5. Yeah - keep holding your breath .... wish I hadn't updated to the 3.5.1. I've been two weeks in now and I've had several times where the BT doesn't auto connect to my phone. (never an issue on 3.2.2) Several times its told me I don't have a USB device plugged in. (it lies) You can't connect to a WiFi is its protected because you can't enter the pass code (kybd ghosted) Not happy .... but I have bigger fish atm.
  6. Need two .. if you have the Pirelli's Scorpion STR tires on em still, I'll do those as well.
  7. Can any one confirm this? I just got the new software v3.5.1 on Thursday. So far nothing worth the time spent at the dealership to get it updated. Then today I went to get attached to my home AP and my passphrase is mostly alpha. And guess what, the keyboard is ghosted! WTF ?? Switch to number pad (active) then to the keyboard, then back to the number pad, now its ghosted ! There are also visual issues like the glow of a lit button regardless if that function is selected is there.
  8. that was going to be another mod I looked into ..... a dash black out mode. For when I want to sit and enjoy the music and watch the stars out of the vista roof. Does it do it all or just the center screen ?
  9. Verizon/Motorola Razr with Android ICS 4.0.4 - works great. BT streaming audio works but doesn't pass artist, album, or title tho.
  10. If you watch the video closely and watch his fingers ... access to this appears to be like the lockpik system whereby you hold down the phone button on the steering wheel and their NAV system takes over the screen some how. Questions I'd ask are, 1) how long will that display stay on screen and can anything interrupt or reset it on screen. 2) what if any are the limitations of switching to NAV, entering destinations, etc while vehicle is in motion. 3) will its activation interfere with the access to or operation of the connected BT phone or music connection. I love options ... and this looks pretty good for people who don't have the factory NAV option.
  11. BTW - not for nothing but have you ever heard of "multi-layer PCBs" ? I'm guessing not. With the number of parts, trace complexity and density on modern circuit boards, they can not get all the needed traces or pathways on the top and bottom of a circuit board. So they layer them with punch through or pass through connections to the different appropriate layers. I don't know if this is the case of the climate control circuit boards but it could explain your outcome.
  12. I have noticed and I'm not quite sure of the path to cause this to happen but I do know how to make it "correct" itself. At night I like to have the interior lights low. A few times I noticed that the center screen was almost as bright as it was during the day and certainly brighter than the instrument cluster. When I find it in the mode, you can go into Display -> Screen -> Brightness offset. Mine is all the way down to the left. If I press the right hand button, making it brighter, it actually snaps to the much dimmer setting. Then every thing is as I expect it should be as far as the brightness equalization between the screens. I "think" I've noticed this more often when I've started backing and while backing, turned my headlights on. this would place the center screen in rear view camera mode (equipped) and the light would power on, but the center would not be in its standard display to be dimmed ... although it does go dim on the camera view ... I suspect that the system checks for the brightness setting at certain times that may be bypassed if you use system a certain way or order. .... has any one else noticed this ? (you're not crazy)
  13. strange .... I'll have to pay attention to my playback order. I don't have m3u lists and I was sure that mine were not in alpha order. Thx for making me doubt my sanity (or old age'd brain) :D
  14. "We're thinking more and more like not only a car company, but a technology company," Fields said during a round table with reporters during the Los Angeles Auto Show." I've been saying that was the problem for a while now. They need to get some "geeks" on the MFT team versus the "gear heads". That design and development team (as well as testers) have to think like software engineers with car knowledge not automobile engineers that now have to work with computer systems.
  15. sry I couldn't find the thread .. but there is one here that describes the part number and how to install in the visor .. vary reasonably priced if I recall.
  16. I'm not ordering anything with a part number of "PUD-PAK" ... just sayin ... :D
  17. I think the track number in the MP3 tag meta data also works. But glad you hear you got your grove on ! :bandance: :violin:
  18. this is funny .. I was hoping you two would see each other !
  19. I know that most leasing companies now have the dealerships install a remote kill / GPS device on leased vehicles. With this they (if check) can see where the car is and I'm pretty sure where it's been. And they can tell it to not start the next time you shut it off in case of a non-payment indecent. I don't have the data as to if this keeps a record and it's hidden to make it very hard to bypass. I'm sure there are privacy laws governing this type of thing but hard to put the bird back in the cage once its out. OnStar I know had/has a big bruhaha about it's system tattling on you and there are ways to bypass/nullify it if you don't wish to have that service. Ford on the other hand has live operators standard for the Ford Sync service. They can check on your current where-abouts for emergency purposes. I don't think that it remembers where you've been (bread crumbs). However the Ford Nav system probably does. A system hard reset would/should clear all this info. (found in the system menu on the center screen) If it doesn't, there is probably no user way to do it then. Again, privacy laws I would imagine take over. Short story. I purchased my ford from a private party via online connection. (very positive experience btw). Over the course of our email exchange I asked or figured out specific details of his location, real name and occupation. We used his dealership as the middleman for our transaction and they "should" have wiped all his personal info from the vehicle since I was effectively purchasing the vehicle from the dealership. In the GPS logs/addresses I found his name, home phone number, and address. Yikes. No voice recording tech that I've ever heard or read about built-in. Unless you have given the FBI, CIA, or USDHS reason to place one. :shades:
  20. DrPepper - I feel your bro. I have a Nav .. used it twice. Use my $200.00 Garmin 2455 GPS all the time. It blows the doors off the Ford Nav. Frequent updates, fast input even if the car is moving. No annoying white flashing circle in the middle of the screen. Knows what a rural fire address is. Is always visible no matter what screen is up on the center console ... ok that last one was not the Ford Nav's fault. Just sayin ...
  21. its a urban myth that electronics and water are instant death. Its actually electronics, water AND electrical current. Long story short, I rescued a CRT TV from a flood back in '93. Took it home, opened it up. Placed it in the shower and used the hot water from the shower massage to get all the silt out. Used contact cleaner on the mechanical controls and let it dry for a week. Used it for 12 more years. I say that because, I've cleaned our user's kybd's with hot water in the kitchen after coffee incursion and let them dry for several days in a "dry environment". Worked fine. (insert std disclaimer here) If you're able to get the shifter assembly that is causing your "shorting" issues, out of the vehicle you should be okay to clean it with warm tap water .... blow dry with air gun and let dry for several days and you should be fine. Use spray electrical contact cleaner on any contacts. No, but i did stay at a holiday inn express last night !
  22. I just noticed another function that should be universal to MFT and is not. If you have the backup camera, and have the "guides" (green, yellow, & red lines) enabled, on the Edge they're static and NEVER move. On the flex .. if you back up and turn they "warp" left or right to project your path. Besides programming, a steering wheel position sensor would be needed. I'd think that the sensor would be in the Edge as well .. but haven't cared enough to look it up.
  23. You're in good company ! :shades:
  24. akirby, waldo ... I would agree with that and in fact if you look at my post as a bigger picture, I'm also calling into question the "how" it works myself. My only contention was to the ""Electronic throttle delay" is really a myth" which unless I'm taking his meaning incorrectly, is a pretty broad statement dismissing any throttle delay in DBW systems. No need to hash further ... I think we're all on the same page.
