  1. great minds .... or nothing new under the sun ... either one applies ! :shades:
  2. Assuming that the wheel is still on the vehicle .. there are two possibilities. 1) that the nut is spinning on the wheel stud. (this is the better of the two outcomes). 2) that the stud is spinning in the wheel hub. (very bad - pay someone to do it.) In the case of number 1 (happened to me) I was able to knock the decorative cover off the nut exposing the center and top of the stud. From here I was able to knock it out of the nut and out the back side of the hub with a drift pin. I was very lucky that it went down like this. There is enough room to remove a stud from the hub while still attached on most cars. But in the case where the stud is spinning in the hub, the nut will have too much hold on the stud and you'll not be able to knock it out. You'd have to cut the back of the stud off and pound it outwards or drill out the center and pray. I will caution you about this. There is no TRY.. only do. If you start and the stud gets out a little bit on the back side ... and you fail to totally remove it, you'll not be able to drive the car anywhere as the stud will most likely bind on the bearing carrier assembly. As was the case with mine. Either way .. I like Drew's recommendation of take it back to the last yutz's who cranked it down so tight as to strip what ever got striped.
  3. Yep - did not ever work on my 2011 LTD AWD MFT Sony - Canceled my Travel Link - not much use for the ski conditions in Chicago either !
  4. 2011 to 2012 "should" work. 2010 to 2012 ... hmmm not so much. This second install is a model/chassis jump. There is much that is/was re-designed. I'm no Ford mechanic but I did stay in a holiday inn express last night ! :hysterical2:
  5. In case some of you have not seen this ... I'm ordering 3 or 4. I've used Sandisk drives at work and love em. They're plenty fast, small enough to fit into tight USB ports and I've got 3 of them hanging on a lanyard . These however are new (to me) and are perfect for the USB ports in our Edges. Since they're as short and small as a blue tooth dongle you can toss stuff in the center console and worry about breaking them off at the connector. This is the 16gb and there is a 32gb version. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820171588
  6. just say "it can't be done" and you'll have code in 3 weeks ! :D I know .. there would be a lot to consider .. but .. not impossible. Just a lot of thinking outside the box.
  7. You know this is just hardware that we're talking about ... nothing (that I know of) is stopping any one from loading their own OS and GUI. I'd like to see a Linux based backend personally. Microshaft is doing it wrong. Oh and here .. be part of the solution, :shades: https://www6.ultirecruit.com/BSQ1000/JobBoard/ListJobs.aspx?__VT=ExtCan
  8. yep .. and it drives me nuts ... because I know its a screw up or just short shortsightedness. To a bit lesser degree due to the differences in bluetooth protocols and the lack of a single standard, the same holds true for BT from my DroidX to the Sony MFT system. Only there its a case of no info. Sound only ...
  9. I can't tell you how many mechanics I've talked to over the years that have all said .. that if you've not changed the trans fluid by 100k ... leave it alone.
  10. You know someone here in the forums installed a Kenwood head unit if I recall .. and it does and allowed you to do everything that a MFT owner complains they can't do. USB interface, DVD play back while in motion. (I know about lock pick but its kludgy at best) Rear video cam, that you can activate while in motion.
  11. It won't make any difference where you play the files from. They're assigning the info to those fields from the MP3 tags which are stored in the very beginning of a MP3 file in what is called a header. The TAG info is arranged a specific way. (boring details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3#Layout) and I honestly do not think they gave it any thought what so ever ... I'm serious when I say that I think they just randomly grabbed data and assigned it to those fields. I don't know, maybe thinking no one would notice or look at it ???
  12. First night home .. I told my wife ... "good night honey .. see you in the morning" ... she asked where I was going and I told her I was going to sleep in the edge for the next 3 nights ....
  13. Also on the install times .. remember there is a huge difference in read/write performance of various USB flash drives. My install was good. I have to reconnect my phone (BT discovery) but everything else appears ok. Radio/Sirius presets were all intact. Temp was back on main screen. I saw one reboot but chose not to watch and did this while at work and just checked back on it a few times. edit: my first attempt was via the Syncmyride.com for my VIN .. two files with not a lot of instruction on what to do with them. 1 cab and 1 zip. 2nd try was from the link from the OP, this one was an executable and created at my specified target (usb drive) the necessary file structure and when plugged in, it just worked. I'll have to try the voice cmds tomorrow and report back.
  14. I honestly think that is because when Ford's engineers "discovered" a thing called mp3 tags .. they shrugged their shoulders and randomly grabbed data from the tag headers w/o asking ... "Hey .. maybe there is a standard to this that we should follow.?!?" :stop:
  15. If you look up any of my past posts on this subject, you note that I am no huge fan of MFT. However I felt I needed to point something out to you. "...keyboard would just start dropping letters and then disappear" this is because the navigation system is instantly searching its database of possible city or street names and only presenting you the available next letter. This to make it easier to type .... only 5 letters to visually pick thru versus 26 (A-Z) In other words ... its by design. If you'd like to fume about something, try locating a fire street address. Ex: 43w792 Main St. You can't. The Nav system does not understand this address format. But this is why I have a secondary nav screen stuck to the window next to the driver "A" pillar. After 5 attempts on MFT - my Garmin 2455 had me on my way in <30 seconds ! BAM.
  16. Hey .. nuther 6'5" guy looking for a bit more room.I actually have the leg room .. but would like another inch or two above me. As in lower the seat. But after studying the realestate under the seat ... I don't think its an option. Do you have issues where the outsides of your knees are getting sore from sitting against the hard silver trim ? I'm thinking on attaching a small length of dense rubber foam like what is used on roll cages and see if that saves me knees any. OUCH !
  17. Can anyone point me to the documentation that describes the meaning of the AdvancedTrak display and what the bar graphs are suppose to depict ? I had this display up the other day .... and noticed that bar graphs appear by each of the four corners when accelerating. Dry, straight road, ~85`F doing about 50mph ... nail it and you'll see the bar graphs appear. Torque ?? They seemed to favor the front.
  18. "fill up at the same gas station?" Yes ... 3 blocks from my house, too convenient not to and they have the good prices, usually. This week/tank I'm right on track to do it again. In fact, on this tank I've even got several service trips to adjoining towns that I don't usually factor in. And I'll still make it to saturday !! About breaking in over time ... I've only had my Edge for a few months, just recently turned 15,000. This sudden increase in range was fairly sudden. I think I'm going to run some real hand math mileage numbers and see what I get.... very strange.
  19. My '11 Limited AWD I've noticed something recently. I usually have been filling up on monday and then have to fill up on thursday or I'll not make it home. Now all of a sudden, I'm filling up on monday and making it into saturday. No change in drive to work or driving style. But .. I did realize today that my edge just had it's 15k birthday about when this started and got to thinking. Did Ford get smrt (smart) and program the ECU to run the engine intentionally rich for the duration of a normal burn-in period ?? Easy enough to do. I had kind of thought it has felt peppier the last few weeks. Any one know the ins of the ECU programming to confirm or debunk ?
  20. I have a 65lbs Boxer ... the weather tech being hard plastic is just plain cruel. I like the design of the "ultimate pet liner" and reminds me of the moving blanket that I use now on the seat. You know, not for nothing, if you (or the wife) were handy with sewing, you could get 2 or 3 moving blankets and sew them together with some velcro straps for seat attachment and do it for a heck of a lot less than 3 big ones !
  21. also .. average teardrops are between 1000 and 1500lbs with supplies and gear. Big ones can get into the 1750 range ... they have become my recent penchant.
  22. re running < a few gallons, unless you're running in a very dirty environment and given the filtering that is already present ... I would concur... not a concern. My last 3 vehicles (mileages of 251,000, 174,000, ~115,000) have all been fuelies and I've run them empty (live in the boondocks - "I think I can - I think I can - I think I can - :whew: . .. I made it) may a times. The last two are still with me ....
  23. if he hasn't already, he needs to patent that. You don't know how many times I've held my ipad and my droid to the front of the MFT screen working on ways to attach it easily. My thinking was, if ford won't give me, the customer, what I want ... I make it. Simply bypass it with a device that will give me real working functionality. This tech was spot on with his design. Simple, non-invasive, practical. If I were an investing businessman ... I think I might be taking him out to dinner to talk about a business opportunity. :shades: on a some what related note, for those who hadn't seen it, Lockpick came out with a new unit that works on the new sony's with nav and gps. http://www.coastaletech.com/mytouch.htm
  24. I was looking into this as well with the track feature. The torque site has a comparison of the OBD BT dongles. Seems as not all are created equal. http://torque-bhp.co...etooth_Adapters My Garmin GPS has a app that I could have purchased for it and used a BT dongle - after doing my research, I'm glad I didn't. "however the adapter proved to be too slow to be of any use." This bad boy seems to be the shiznit - http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-mx.html but kind of rich for a toy on a non-performance vehicle.
  25. Or if you like a little bit of class and a touch of nostalgia, my current goal is to build (but you can find them) one of these vintage 50's teardrop trailers ! http://www.cozycruiser.com/index.html http://www.americanteardrop.com/ http://www.tinycamper.com/ Do some research into the story behind them .. good stuff. http://www.teardroptraveltrailers.com/ http://www.tnttt.com/ "There is some things that man is not meant to know. For everything else, there's Google!"
