  1. well the original post about the Dorman mirror motor was made July 6th 2016. It stopped working today. I kept the original motor and repaired the connection on the up/down motor by cleaning it with spray contact cleaner. It is now functioning and is 100% better than the junk Dorman replacement. I will never cheap out on a part to save $10 bucks again. I did pop the housing apart to get at the motors which wasn't necessary, I could have just sprayed in the connector slots. It is a very simple mechanism. Two small motors each with a motor driven worn gear to turn a round gear that screws the top and side of the mirror in and out.
  2. If they issue a recall they may have to reimburse everyone who had it fixed. Good luck!
  3. Oh yeah, Winter in Connecticut is supposed to be brutal this year and I have the only FWD Edge I've seen around here. This car was born in Louisiana and moved to Arizona, two areas where people don't order cars with heated seats. We had a mild winter last year and the Edge was pretty good in the snow but this year I will probably be using my wife's Grand Cherokee. Great ground clearance and a fantastic 4WD system. (Heated seats and mirrors.) Technical question: Will AWD emblem on the hatch help? Have a great winter and watch out for the black ice and idiots who think they can drive above their limits and road conditions.
  4. According to an article on Yahoo NHTSA is starting a probe into 380,000 2011-2013 Ford Edge SUVs for faulty door ajar warning lights which will not allow you to know if your door is properly latched. NHTSA has received 1560 reports about the problem. It's about time. I love my 2007 and just had to take apart the hatch latch to fix the micro switch. (the opposite problem, the lights didn't come on and the warning didn't work.) The lack of lighting was annoying but I wouldn't have noticed the warning light not coming on.
  5. My 2007 at 109,000 is dry as a bone. At 54,000 miles and under warrantee I would have it fixed. At my mileage I wouldn't fix it for $1600. I would leave it like my wife's Grand Cherokee and put a rubber mat under it with speedy dry. Of course it depends on the volume of the leak. a few drops a week is what I'm talking about. Not noticeable on the dip stick between oil changes and just a pain in the ass on the garage floor. I hate leaks but I hate big repair bills more.
  6. I believe there are only two recalls on the Edge. 1.The gas tank leaking. 2.The Takata passenger air bag. (I make sure my mother in law sits there)
  7. I had a 98 Ford Contour that had a small refrigerant leak that would show up the same way. The drivers side vent would blow much warmer that the others. I never fixed it because it required a can of 134A once a season. I sold it before it became a problem. The guy I sold it to knew about it and replaced the receiver dryer. He showed me the old one. There was an insulating piece of rubber around it that collected water and rotted it out.
  8. I'm all for genuine ford products. I bought a replacement Dorman mirror motor. It is noisy and it is difficult to adjust the mirror because it moves to quickly and keeps going after you let go. If I needed to adjust the mirror more often, I would have junked it and used genuine. The cooling fans are important enough not to take a chance.
  9. Another malfunction! Speedometer calibration must be off. Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about the repeat problem. Once it's fixed you will love your Edge. If this drags on would you consider asking the dealership for an equal trade? I would insist on using the car for a couple of weeks to be sure it's what you expect.
  10. My 2007 has 108,000 miles and has been great. FWD so no PTO problems. Replaced the factory 6 disc changer radio to a Jensen 7020. Nice quality and reasonable price. Slightly long boot up time. I still have the steering wheel control module and back up camera in the garage a year later. One day soon when I have nothing better to do LOL. I replaced the front axles because of a bad CV joint at around 85,000 miles. I just replaced the plugs at 108,000 miles, PITA but improved gas mileage and needed to prevent coil and computer damage. When I got the car the AC was asthmatic. The filter was completely clogged. Never been cleaned. Mine has a screen filter that can be washed. When you held it up to the light you couldn't see through it. This car has been rock steady. The CV joint was the only repair done since I own it and I knew it was bad when I bought it at about 70,000 miles.
  11. If I'm not mistaken your third picture of the tone ring looks like it is broken. If you look at the spacing where the white mark (corrosion) is I think the ring is cracked and the spacing between the teeth is larger. The sensor receives evenly spaced signals from the ring. If it doesn't it detects a fault.
  12. Final note on the tune-up. After a week of my normal driving the mileage has increased from just under 18 mpg to about 19.5 mpg this week. This is on a 24 mile back road route that is hilly and averages between 30 and 40 mph with no traffic and only a few stop signs. I'm happy with the results. I replaced the missing throttle body support screw this weekend. It was a 6mm screw. The length was about 3/4". I had to cut a 35mm length screw to length because I couldn't find the correct one. the next person to service this will need a 10mm socket and not an 8 mm. If they're going to do this job I think they will be able to figure it out.
  13. In Connecticut the police handcuffed him and took him to the station. His lawyer wrote a certified letter to me asking me to drop the charges. I told him not to dare and contact me again. The prosecutor asked for my opinion of what to do, I suggested community service and reparations. Maybe it taught him a lesson. I was proud of our criminal justice system for not taking the easy way out and just letting the insurance company suck up the expense. The repairs came out of his pocket. Also a kid in his 20's.
  14. I'm not sure if it's just me getting older or if over the last 10 years drivers just don't give a shit about courtesy. In the last week I've had 2 people blow off stop signs and one gave me the finger. (maybe he wanted me to know his IQ) I was rear ended 3 years ago by some idiot who asked me if I was ok and then almost ran me over leaving the scene. I got his plate number and he was arrested. Sorry about your car. Glad your wife is ok. Hope they catch the asshole and arrest him.
  15. Process of elimination, The first one is the one with the retainer that holds the screw to the manifold on top. The last 2 are the hold down screws 5 of the short and 1 of the long. so its either M6X18 or M8X35. Great help! Thanks Paul
  16. By the way, when I removed the intake I dropped the screw under the throttle body into a black hole and it disappeared. Does anyone know what size it is? Definitely not into the intake. I guess Ford wouldn't have put it in if they didn't need it.
  17. It really wasn't that bad when I finally got a look at the plug and figured out how to release it. I think I wore out the "F" word. A few weeks ago I posted my weekend story about fixing a sliding glass door on my deck. It also started raining and I put my hand into a present my dog left for me. I need to start paying other people to fix my stuff. Natures wrath LOL.
  18. I did new plugs on my 2007 yesterday. Not really bad but kind od a pain in the ass. The only surprise was the extra plug that needed to be released that was next to the hose in the back of the intake. I have lots of cuts on my hands form tight places. The old plugs had been worn to a gap of 87 and the new ones are at 54 the car has 108,000 miles on it. The car feels smoother and I will know if the gas mileage gets better The worst part of the tune up was the pouring rain storm while I was doing it. I was soaked to the bone. I put the back 3 plugs in first so I could put the upper manifold back on start it up and put it back in the garage before changing the front 3. As soon as it was back in the garage the rain stopped.
  19. Check coolant level. If the problem occurs when the car is standing or in slow traffic and not when it is moving it probably is the fans. On the road you get enough air going through the radiator and condenser to remove heat. The fan and controller are sold as a unit. Check the connector to see if it is burnt and intermittent.
  20. It sounds like you have a bad caliper that is not free to return when the line pressure is released. This would cause the pads to drag on the disk. Usually the caliper but sometimes the flexible brake lines can fail and have the same effect. If the slides and all hardware are in good working order I would be pretty certain it's the caliper.
  21. I changed mine a couple of years ago and I think it's going again (I smacked the switch and it started working again.) They are cheap on EBay. They are also easy to replace. Do a search for Ford Edge mirror switch and a bunch of options will pop up.
  22. The compass module is the box behind the rear view mirror. I can't imagine that it would cause a problem with all of the displays. I have unplugged the module and I just don't get the compass feature. You can disconnect it from the system and see if it is causing the problem.
  23. Check the connection to the fan controller. This could have been the initial problem. If the contacts are burned they will overheat and loose connection. This circuit carries high amps and needs to be clean and tight. Next time it doesn't work try moving the connector around. WATCH THE FAN BLADES!
  24. Not getting involved with the Lincoln vs. Audi thing, I do deed to comment on the Lincoln grill. What were they thinking!! I hope they incorporate the new continental grill into the MKX the next go around. Very Jaguarish

    What a day

Sounds like my Chevy Lumina. Baaad car. This was the kind of car that windows would go down and not up. Once I turned the blinker on and the stalk came off in my hand. If I typed all my grief with it I could get carpal tunnel syndrome. It was just off warrantee when a head gasket went and dumped antifreeze into the oil. Less than 40,000 miles and it needed a motor. Lots of stop leak, new oil and a ride to the dealership for a trade in. When I traded it in for my wife's Grand Cherokee the appraiser said it was really a nice car and his daughter was looking for a good used car. I told him to wholesale it. He raised the agreed upon value $100 and said thanks. My father in law was a Chevy dealer. I had lots of nice Chevy's that were reliable and some really bad ones. The shame of it is that it's like a bad dinner at a restaurant. No matter how good they are, one bad one and you will never go back. So far, the Jeep is unbreakable and my Edge is really trouble free.
