  1. Because scrolling through the menus in the cluster is actually more distracting and dangerous than using the buttons on the center stack. Ironically it was only after Ford took more of a UX approach instead of letting the IT guys design the system did they realize they needed to get rid of the feature. IT guys are the only ones for whom the cluster menu made sense. I'm with akirby on one thing, you really don't ever need to adjust BOTH the temp and fan speed. But it's much more logical to just adjust the fan speed manually if it's too loud and leave the temp alone. BTW the new Continental actually has a "3 mode" auto system, Auto setting 1 minimizes the noise while auto setting 3 brings the temperature to the set point as fast as possible.
  2. Your Edge should absolutely not unlock unless the handle is actually touched. That makes me think you have a problem with the handle, where somehow it thinks it is being touched all the time. Next time it happens I'd definitely take it to the dealer, you likely need a new driver's door handle. But also a good idea to compare how things work on the passenger side, The driver's door handle and passenger side front handle both have their own antennas to detect the key (as does the rear liftgate).
  3. My 2014 Fusion has the climate feature in the cluster and I have never used it - ever. I find it way too distracting as I have to scroll through the menus with some combination of up down and left right just to make one simple adjustment that I can do by hitting the single button on the center stack. Besides, I rarely ever adjust the climate, just set it to 72 and forget it. If you're really worried about it, just learn to use the voice commands.
  4. The fast restart feature (page 151 of the Owner's manual) will allow the car to be restarted within 10 seconds of shutting it off, even if the key is not in the vehicle. So yes, if a thief is able to get you out of the car and jump in within 10 seconds, they could restart the car and drive away. If you're really worried about that, just wait 10 seconds before opening the door. As for accessory mode, what exactly is the problem? If the issue is you want the radio on without all the other stuff, then as akirby says, just push the power button on the radio. Otherwise the mode is exactly like every other car. As an aside, in Ford's early systems (like my 2010 MKT), you could push the start button once to get accessory mode, then once more to get "ON" mode, then once more to get back to Off. But that was very confusing because if you accidentally hit the button and then thought you could just hit the button again to turn it off, it didn't work that way. So then Ford made one push for accessory mode, then a push and hold to get to ON mode. But nobody really understood that so Ford ditched the whole two-mode thing and just made one push go directly to ON.
  5. Or look for a little funny antenna between the rear view mirror and the windshield. That's where they put the "dealer installed accessory" remote start - which could show up as an option on the window sticker.
  6. Don't use L, but use the hill assist button on the side of the shifter.
  7. Ford has always referred to the keypad and remote as "keyless" entry. The system like your Nissan is available but is called "Intelligent Access". And to answer your real question, no, there is no hope you could add the "intelligent Access" to your SEL.
  8. There's no way anyone would go to the trouble of changing it, the wiring and programming of at least 4-5 modules would have to be changed and not even a dealer is trained on how to do that. Swapping the VIN would be a lot easier than converting from keyless to keyed.
  9. No, Ford designs for no cross-caster. They use the aligning torque of the tires to control the "right drift". To the OP - assuming you're talking about camber, not toe, the reason there is camber when the vehicle is going straight is because when the vehicle rolls in the corner, you want the tire to stay straight relative to the road in order to provide the most grip. Finding the balance between grip in the corners and inside tire wear is why engineers are always employed!
  10. Could it be just the lock rod itself that is stuck or binding on something?
  11. The only way Sync knows anything about construction is from the data it gets from Sirius. It's certainly not as reliable as data from Google maps, but you have to blame Sirius, not the Sync system.
  12. The cluster is a gateway module and distributes all the CAN messages out to other modules. What changed was the protocol of all the CAN messages. Basically the new cluster speaks a different language than the old one. No amount of programming is going to be able to fix that, you would have to create a custom "translator box" to put in between the new cluster and everything else.
  13. They are totally different electrical architectures. It would be like trying to install Windows on a Commodore 64. You would have to change just about every electrical module in the car to make it work.
  14. If you want a simple swap, you need to stick to the 1st gen cyclone (iVCT - single variable camshaft) that was in the 07-10 Edge/MKX, the 07-12 Taurus, 07-12 MKZ or you could put in a 3.7 from the 09-12 MKS/MKT. The difference with the 3.7 really isn't that much so I wouldn't spend a whole lot of extra time or money to find one of those.
  15. Agree with both of the above - yes they will fit but you'll need new TPMS sensors. But also agree that if you're going to get dedicated winter tires, you'd be better off with an 18in size.
  16. The shield is mainly there to deflect radiating heat from the exhaust, not to act as a heat sink. When you turn off the car there is no more hot exhaust, so the pipes cool quickly and don't radiate any more. The shield is very thin and is designed specifically to not hold heat; as I said above, wrapping it is just going to add more mass and cause it to hold more heat, not less.
  17. The point of wrapping is to hold heat in, the heat shield doesn't generate heat, so wrapping would do nothing but add just a little bit of mass to act as a heat sink. You could more effectively achieve that by slapping a bunch of magnets on the shield.
  18. But it uses truck tires, not passenger car tires.
  19. 30K isn't that unreasonable for tire life on a heavy SUV, especially if they are Yokohama performance tires.
  20. I've been driving in winter situation where there is so much salt spray, that by the time the courtesy wipe went off, there was enough new spray that it smeared everything and caused me to have to use the washer again, which resulted in another courtesy wipe, which resulted in another use of the washer and on and on...
  21. That advice is 20 years old. I always let me TT RX7 cool down, but never worry about it on my MKT EB. Ford's EB engines are designed to not require pre-shut down cooling.
  22. A 2015 Edge already has a PTU drain plug.
  23. It won't be a reasonably strong correlation, it will be exact. Ford doesn't multi-source tires of the same size on the same model except for some of the high-volume F150 models or in rare cases when they change over from one supplier to another. There's nothing wrong with Hankooks. Ford's tire process is they set up their own design criteria and then send those specifications out for bid. If Hankook couldn't meet Ford's requirements, they wouldn't win the business. Every tire on the Edge is a custom-tuned tire by Ford, it's not necessarily the same thing you can find at your local tire shop.
  24. Hankook is a Korean company, Michelin is a French company, Pirelli is an Italian company.
