  1. Ford is migrating to a strategy of using Drive Modes instead of manual shifting. Using the Sport drive mode will give you lots of engine braking.
  2. Nope, not at all. I'm not an American. But any American can buy stock in Toyota or Honda, and thus benefit from their profits. I don't know how much of Ford is owned by foreign investors, but I'm sure they're a significant number. So tracking the profits is not nearly as simple as you make it sound. Even if it was, the best automotive companies are earning ~10% margins, so at best the profit part of a sale is only 10%. The other 90% of the income all goes back to the value chain of the vehicle, including the manufacturing facility, the parts and the overhead. If you have a 401K or any other investment in any kind of mutual fund, chances are some of Toyota and Honda's profits are going straight to you. As far as the engineering, it's probably about 60% of the Highlander and Pilot that are engineered in America. While the Edge is probably closer to 80%, other Ford's like the Focus, Escape are only about 20%. All automakers are global now, a smart business balances the markets they sell in with the production they have there, so the simple view of "buy American" really doesn't make any sense.
  3. Highlander is made in Indiana and Pilot is made in Alabama. The Edge is not made in America.
  4. The detection is looking for a sharp input, like a pinched finger. If it just keeps squeezing you slowly, it won't trigger. Try it again but when it's closing, give it a sharp punch or elbow. That should turn it back around.
  5. Are you sure your second key isn't somewhere in the vehicle? The Sync update should have nothing at all to do with that setting.
  6. You can also register your vehicle on the FordPass app and it will tell you.
  7. Drove a new Traverse the other day. It was so bland I felt like I was in a rental car the whole time. No excitement in the interior, in the driving experience or in the styling in my opinion.
  8. The reason the AWD display isn't on the SHO from the factory is because it didn't provide accurate information. The SHO (and Flex) cluster supplier is different from the Edge/Explorer, and they didn't get the algorithm right, so Ford just disabled the view because there wasn't enough time to fix it. So if people are trying to understand the AWD performance of the SHO based on the cluster graphic, they are fooling themselves. After all, how can 100% go to the rear? There is no disconnect of the front axle, so the only way the front can receive 0 torque is to use the brakes. That wouldn't make much sense if the goal is improved performance.
  9. Which tires do you have on your Edge? Many times the tires used for export are not the same ones that are sold on vehicles in North America.
  10. How is an engine not running harder on it than running? Cold starts are hard on an engine, but the auto stop start won't let it turn off when it's still cold.
  11. There are no loyal Fusion/Taurus customers. The loyal ones have already moved to SUVs and the rest are fleet sales or the type that treat their vehicles as appliances and will just go with whatever offers the best deal at the time. Nothing in this news says Ford is going to stop making affordable vehicles. The EcoSport, Escape and the not-yet-released vehicle coming in between them will all have prices that overlap the current car lineup. In fact it's the young entry level buyers who are the ones demanding SUV/Crossovers over sedans anyway.
  12. What would be the point of selling more of something they are losing money on? Just because a lot of sedans are sold, doesn't mean there's a lot of money to be made in that market.
  13. Not sure what you're reading here, but all Fusions are already made in Mexico, so dropping them won't affect any US jobs. And China Lincolns are additional production for China market to avoid the tarrifs, there's no reduction in US production.
  14. That's great, but do any of the modes actually give you a different sound? In other words, if nobody programmed the modes, then putting the option to choose them would be pointless.
  15. Did you get the A8 card from Ford or ebay?
  16. Not really, it's been the same basic system in every Edge ever made.
  17. The AWD system probably has a logic algorithm in it that turns off the AWD when it detects brake pressure.
  18. I'm saying that the probability of screwing up the maintenance is greater than the probability of the maintenance preventing a failure. At least that's the theory. But your case just proved the theory true!
  19. That better not be covered under warranty (Ford Motor Company paying for it) and better be on the dealer's dime. Not Ford's fault the service wasn't done correctly. Incidentally this is one of the main reasons why Ford does not recommend servicing the trans or PTU fluid.
  20. Everything related to the seat position is designed very carefully for crash performance. Remounting your seat further back could cause it to overload the floor; basically it would pop out if you ever hit something hard enough. Even if it didn't do that, the seatbelt angles and airbag timing are all carefully designed around the limits of the seat travel. If you were ever in a side crash, it would put your head in a potentially more dangerous spot close to the B-pillar and all the stuff behind it and possibly put you out of the range of protection of the side air bags.
  21. Probably just an alignment issue, too much toe-out in the rear will do exactly what you describe. That would also explain the worn rear tires.
  22. The point is that the fluid breaks down immediately once it overheats. So if you change your PTU oil, then go out the next day and thrash it, you will ruin the brand new fluid and now be driving around for the next 20K on trashed fluid, the same thing as if you hadn't changed it at all.
  23. Possibly some new winter boots that have you hitting the gas pedal without realizing it?
