  1. 2010 on down Edges were hard on front brakes due to the smaller rear rotors and the smallish front rotors. 2011 forward have larger rear rotors and the brake bias is more towards the rear along with revised front calipers. That said normal/hard braking on pre-2011 Edges probably can warp the rotors so replace them with good quality NEW rotors.
  2. If the tires are heavier then more unsprung weight in the suspension - Less mileage. Also a reflash may be needed to adjust the speedometer
  3. if you have AWD there may be issues plus a series 60 tire may change the ride, vehicle height and handling characteristics. I would stick to the stock size.
  4. I agree in most cases but when electronics and even some engine functions the dealer has the equipment (and resolution databases) to resolve issues. Most neighborhood repair shops do not have (or can afford) the diagnostic equipment. As an example if you have an engine management issue that requires a flash upgrade of your cars computer the repair shop may not have access to that information/flash or the equipment to install the flash. On my CTS I had an issue with the tilt steering that I would have thought was the tilt mechanism itself but it turned out to be the "memory module". Not sure if a neighborhood shop would have fixed it correctly. Cars are becoming complicated rolling computers that requires a mechanic to have skills in both mechanical and computer/electronic skills.
  5. 2010 Edge's and down were hard on brakes. 2011's and up are much improved - Go with new high quality rotors. I use Raybestos http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1134261
  6. I must be one of the lucky ones with MFT. Only had 2 proplems since the vehicle was new in March 2011 (rel. 2.7). The navigation crashed on a trip (fixed in 2.8) and the calendar thought current date was dec 4 2028 (fixed by the dealer recently) other than that MFT for me works as advertised. The only mechanical issue I had was the power steering pump (2011 only) at low speed dropped the boost a bit (replaced via TSB). Just about to turn 13K miles and I would buy another one again (looking forward to the next generation next model year).
  7. You can access Sirius to re-initialize your radio via the web.. There is also a phone app to do it also. You just need to be outside and have your radio tuned to 184 (I think). I re-initialized my radio and the weather map issue was repaired.
  8. I have a 2011 Edge LTD AWD and MFT 3.22 (just installed). We love the vehicle it it is agreat family hauler. If you have any basic experience with window systems MFT works pretty well. I could see people with limited exposure to PC etc being a bit Intimidated. .
  9. Any corrosion on the lug bolts or the rotor cap or hub area where the wheel mounts? Rust/corrosion on some of those surfaces can cause a clicking from the wheels.
  10. Try to go for a 2011 - Much improved over the previous years (if you can). Otherwise go for the newest model year possible.
  11. We (it's my wife's car) can't be happier with my Sync system (with the latest release). Phones work well and the voice commands for the navigation climate control are far superior to my cadillac CTS. Overall we love the Edge. Since this is the family vacation hauler I have Travel Link which was a great help on the last trip for finding food and fuel and directions through a National Forest. Again the original release we had (2.8) was buggy but the latest release is much, much better.
  12. my 2011 has an antifreeze smell on ocasion. maybe that is what you are smelling. Probably coming out of a breather somewhere.
  13. Regarding my mileage, one thing I use is a full synthetic oil (Mobil 1) and I am pretty religious with maintaining the tire pressure. So that may also be contributing to the mileage figure. I also have a Cadillac CTS AWD 3.6 DI and I regularly get better mileage than the sticker (27 MPG vs 30 MPG) on flat Illinois roads usually with the A/C on.
  14. I agree the wheels actually hold up well. So long as you dont scrape a curb.
  15. On a recent drive in my 2011 LTD AWD with 3.5, I averaged close to 28 MPG on flat Illinois roads with speeds ranging from 55 to 65. Trip was about 120 miles. Overall I am really impressed with the MPG for a car that size and weight. On another trip, Chicago Asheville NC and back, I averaged 23+ MPG driving 75 MPH to 80 MPH loaded with luggage and passengers. Again pretty impressive. For the next generation Edge I would expect a lighter vehicle by several hundred pounds, an 8 speed transmission and smaller displacement motors with more turbo options. Until then I will keep the Edge I have.
  16. There is a feature in the vehicle to delay the charging of the battery via the alternator to when the vehicle is "coasting". That might be what you feel. I noticed the same on mine and thought there was a trans problem but I was directed to an article regarding this feature. It is meant to same fuel and reduce load on the engine.
  17. Is there a TSB for this problem? I think my 2011 is having the same issue. Looks like TSB 10-21-1 will fix it.
  18. One reason for the early 2013s could also be that this is the last year of this generation Edge so a longer run of the 2013's in advance for the re-tooling for the 2014. FYI I read somewhere that the 2014 Edge will no longer be powered by a V6.
  19. Starting in 2011 the oil filters changed from 2010 so they may be a bit larger (not sure). The 2011 manuals may not have been adjusted. On my last oil change (a 2011 3.5) I put in 6 qts and it was fine.
  20. I use a stainless cleaner - Bar Keepers Friend -
  21. Keep in mind the Edges with 20" wheels have the same axle ratio as the sport - Not what the impact is with going to a different wheel size.
