  1. If ya just want louder cleaner music I'd probably figure out a way to add a good 4 or 5 channel amp. A good 10 or 12 inch sub would go a long way too. It can be done pretty cheap if you do your research, are handy and find good deals on Ebay. Lots of fantastic older amps don't fetch much coin these days.
  2. I've fired mine up below zero many times in upper Michigan and Da UP without any problems. Mine are a 5 year old set 35 watt DDMs with a beefy harness. Probably be a good idea to post what brand you are using, wattage and if you're using a harness. Hids need some good power to fire and cold weather doesn't play nice with batteries. A nice solid power connection straight to the battery with at least 12 gauge wire and an equally sized ground cable might solve your problem. I remember having problems firing my ballasts when I first got them and finally figured out it was the cheap thin gauge e-bay harness causing the problem.
  3. I gotta agree with you on the looks, the 11-14 Edges are still great looking vehicles that look nothing like the latest batch of Cookie-cutter midsize SUVs. I like the direction Lincoln took with the MKX/Nautilus but the Edge definitely needs some design help in the next round.
  4. Then I'd definitely go with the clear film and do as much of the front end as you can. I really wish I would have done this to my 2011 when I got it. Funny thing is, there's no chips where a bug deflector would have protected the hood but the rest of the front end looks like it got sandblasted. I was smart enough to put a clear film on the headlights.
  5. Some feel, and are probably right, that it's a good idea to change coolant often in the 3.5 because of possible water pump bearing failure.
  6. I did all my interior, puddle and license plate lights with e-bay leds and have only had one failure in 5 years. One of the license plate leds kicked the bucket a few months ago but I purchased spares for all lights cuz I thought they wouldn't last this long.
  7. Many said the exact same thing about HIDs in the 11-14 Edge's halogen projectors . I haven't messed with LED headlight bulbs yet but it wouldn't surprise me if one comes along that works well in a halogen projector.
  8. I wouldn't change the sensors until you know they are causing your problem. My 08 Taurus (66,000 miles) has the same trans and started showing signs of bad sensors about 8 months ago. It actually went into limp-mode while on a 250 mile road trip but a quick battery disconnect and all was fine. Mine has a pretty good shudder under load while cruising down the freeway. If I don't hit the gas to drop down a gear is when I really feel it. Not sure if I'm gonna bother with the sensors unless symptoms get a lot worse. I'm eventually gonna get around to changing the plugs first to see if that makes any difference cuz I'm not totally convinced it's the tranny sensors yet.
  9. Can't remember Mac, which kit did you use and did you install it with a harness??? Drive-Bright 35/5000?
  10. Raylee, how many miles were on your 2011 when the pump went bye-bye??? These threads about water pumps got me thinkin bout selling my 2011 with 95,000.
  11. Mac has a fantastic tear down video of the water pump and shows exactly how it fails. Here's one of them:
  12. If you're taking 15 degrees and below, it's probably just an unhappy power steering pump which is very normal. Power steering pumps are like me, we don't like it when there's hardly any degrees outside so we whine about it.
  13. I'm going with strut bearing. My 2011 has been crying for a while now but I'm ignoring her. Mine is loudest when turning right into a parking spot.
  14. My engine was covered with about a 5 gallon bucket of fresh grass clippings along with a lot of the hood liner and foam engine cover. I thought it was pretty amazing they didn't gnaw on any wires. My guess on the white stuff: Do you have any patio furniture cushions stored in your garage for the winter??
  15. Lucky you caught him quick, you should have seen what they did to mine. I had to file an insurance claim!!!
  16. I haven't tried sleeping in my Edge yet but spent many night's sleeping in the back of 2 door Explores in the late 90's during the Salmon seasons. I would think a twin air mattress would be pretty comfy in the Edge but I'm not sure if it can handle 6 footers.
  17. Did you purchase them at Zalinsky Auto Parts?:)
  18. I've also been using Icons for a long time. Wally stopped carrying them and put them on clearance a few months ago. Picked up two sets for the Edge and two sets for the winter beater (2008 Taurus) for a buck each!!!:) I usually get 2-3 years out of them in Michigan.
  19. I have a DDM kit that's been going strong for about 6 years but I'd probably go with Morimoto today. Installation is really easy if ya just plug in a 35 watt set. Only thing ya gotta do is cut holes in the dust covers. My installation was more difficult because I built a dual relay waterproof harness which could explain the crazy durability I've gotten out of a cheap DDM kit. I've thought about switching over to a 55 watt kit which lots of members have installed over the years with good results. I'd definitely use a beefy harness if ya go with a 55 watt kit. Macs got a pretty good video of his HID install on Youtube. You usually need a bowl of popcorn and a few refreshments to make it through Macs videos but they're very well done.:)
  20. Even a 35 watt HID kit makes a huge difference in 2011-2014 Edges. I don't think swapping out the halogen bulbs can even come close. My $50.00 35/5000 HID kit was probably the best money I've spent on my Edge. They can be extremely durable if installed properly.
  21. Just hit the English Gardens store on Ford Road and put some flowers on top of it!!! :) Should cover Valentines day Too!!!
  22. My 2008 Taurus (65,000) needs the sensors replaced. I'm getting what feels like a slip in overdrive when under load on the highway. I've read that bad COP's or spark plugs could cause a miss which feels very similar so I'm gonna start with the plugs when it gets warmer out.
  23. Thanks Wizard!! Are you really a Wizard???:)
  24. Probably the same choice I would make today but I still have a set of $40.00 35/5000 DDM's in my 2011 that are still going strong after 5 years. I even purchased an extra set to have spare parts but haven't needed to use them yet. I am starting to wonder if I should change out the bulbs cuz I think I've read they dim over time. No matter what kit you go with, I would suggest a nice beefy waterproof harness with separate relays for durability and saftey reasons. It's also a good idea to keep your halogen bulbs in the vehicle just in case. It would kinda suck to lose your headlights during a long dark road trip.
  25. Man, if I was planning on getting 10 years out of a vehicle I think I'd go for another MKX. Pretty easy to justify the added cost over a 10 year period.
