Installing new calipers on 2011 Edge with ABS.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Tacyon's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
You may need that full procedure done IF you end up with a spongy brake pedal due to air in the system after caliper replacement. The Motive Bleeder comes highly recommended for best results. Make sure the brake fluid doesn't run dry during the process, maybe even rig a brake fluid container with a line attached THRU the reservoir cap into the reservoir fluid BEFORE starting so that fresh fluid keeps getting pulled into the system while the bleeding is in progress. Here's an article that may help you: http://www.linnbenton.edu/auto/brake/bleed.html -
Good luck, hope the fix works/is not needed. Maybe Ford should get plumbers to do this work. They are used to working with inspection cameras and such

This little explanation might help to understand when not to use Recirculate: http://van.physics.illinois.edu/qa/listing.php?id=1511 I use Recirculate to bring temps down quickly then back to vent mode to keep that fresh air coming in. It gets old & stale quickly inside the cabin with Recirculate mode working fulltime. But then I also drive for a bit after starting with the windows down and fan on high on hot days to let any trapped heat out and the temps equalize before locking myself in the glass cage Helps A/C performance and mileage.

Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to wlepse's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
Did your maintenance plan look like this: http://www.lombardfordwarrantys.com/maintenanceplans.cfm They probably do the oil/filter change as per specs in the manual. Any other interval, you'd have to pay for. -
The best I've ever done with my Edge is 26 mpg (very briefly, tho 25 sustained) on a highway averaging 60 mph with similar terrain as yours. So looks like your Edge is doing pretty good!

Blue smoke cloud upon starting 2012 Edge Ecoboost.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Frisco1522's topic in 2010 Edge & MKX
GDI engines tend to throw out soot (basically diesel engine tech). The PCV system is not the greatest, and there is a lot of crud in circulation thanks to that: fuel/oil/water etc. Sometimes this crud will condense in the intercooler and start showing up when you see the blue smoke. Sometimes it is actually a bad turbo seal or leaky turbo oil line fitting that will cause this issue. So, start by checking all the intake and turbo piping for signs of oil pooling. Check the intercooler also. If there is significant buildup on the back of the intake valves, you likely have a PCV issue. The intercooler can be trained if it has any pooling. You might want to switch to a low-volatility high quality full synthetic motor oil like Amsoil to try and cut down on the vapors present in the PCV system. Also change oil regularly (5K recommended, 7.5K max) to avoid excessive vapor and fuel dilution issues. To get the Soot B Gone solution, you would likely need a better intake design (such as the MDesign for the 3.5 transverse EB), or a methanol/water injection system. -

Very odd. Hope they can discover the root cause and get a proper fix in. -

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Nothing much, went in for an oil change and A/C check today. Decided to try Mobil 1 High Mileage 5W20 at 94K, see how it feels. Edge doesn't feel as "light" around town right now, but I think they pulled the batt, so am in relearn mode. Also the system was overcharged (22 oz) instead of spec (19 oz), apparently contributing to the mediocre A/C performance. -

Were you cruising along, or in heavy throttle mode, or ... Hopefully it is not the turbo (water cooled if like prev gen) or head gasket. Did you recently have it in for service of any kind? Any possibility of a loose cap on the degas bottle etc? -
High beams working on both? Did prev owner replace bulbs/bulb type? High/low is controlled with a shutter on 2011+. Look at the window stickers, maybe they will tell a story Hope CB is ok. Asthma attacks are terrible!!!

With the 2011+ adaptive electronics for battery charging, it is a good thing to keep the recharge duration in mind. Don't know if it is worth the headache compared to the fuel savings, but there it is.

winshield glass
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to lpgao's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
I have sometimes had problems with wipers squeaking or streaking after the replacement glass is installed, probably due to differences in curvature. Hope this OEM type glass works out for you! -
This is one of the wars that the consumer gets pulled into. A lot of hullabaloo in the beginning, then it's radio silence for a loooooong period of time. At the very least, you deserve honest and better communications from the mfr.

Horrible pain in the ass!
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to richy's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
With these modern shapes and "lifetime design", these small things REALLy get tucked away. If I HAVE to get cuts & scrapes, I'd rather it be while working on an engine or trans than changing a little ole lightbulb! -
Nice job, Bossross, nothing better than being hands-on with your fav vehicle Can be agonizing to find flaws, but really therapeutic fixing them. And if it's flawless, awesome!!! You have to crack the trans case open to remove the "filter", there is no filter like there used to be with trans pans that you could unbolt from the bottom for regular fluid & filter changes. The FSM puts a filter change under the DISASSEMBLY section of the transmission. Disassembly NOTE: Note the orientation of the fluid filter to the fluid pump. Remove and discard the fluid filter. Remove and discard the fluid filter seal. Clean and inspect the components of the pump assembly for wear or damage. Inspect the fluid drained from the pump for excessive metal debris. If excessive wear, damage or excessive metal is found, replace the fluid pump as an assembly. Assembly Flush the pump with clean automatic transmission fluid. Rotate the pump shaft by hand to clean the old transmission fluid out of the pump. NOTE: Lubricate the seal with clean automatic transmission fluid. Install the fluid filter seal in the fluid pump. NOTE: Install the filter in the correct orientation as noted in removal. Install the fluid filter in the fluid pump.
