  1. You are a man after my heart! I've done this sort of stuff for a long time, a long time ago. But, there were no charts and obtaining parts from different auto manufacturers to modify to fit the current project. A real funny one was a Salesman came back and asked if I could install remote control mirrors on a 1974 Fiat 124 Spider. After a quick thought I said "Yes" and the sale went through. The mirrors came from an AMC dealership and the New Car Owner loved them! I applaud you to the MAX!
  2. I saw these on the news as we have snow in TEXAS. They can barely navigate rain but, snow???? Check out these Snow Socks... https://autosock.us/
  3. I guess a bad ground based on the voltages given. I've seen the direction indicators on older Fords "glow dimly" with a bad ground in the hear lights or tail lights.
  4. Real easy to calculate. Ask what oil pan R&R minus transmission R&R is. Then argue from there.

    Spare Tire?

Thank GOD bias-ply tires aren't on cars any more!
  6. @TourGuide Search through this forum as all that needs to be replaced are the 2 fasteners. The part numbers and a member's remarks are also provided,.. Cheers
  7. Once upon a long time ago, we would put in cams, headers and intake/carb systems. Wide tires and mags were next up on a long list. So, I think your project is A #1!!!
  8. We used universals to jack the rear up if it was sagging. As long as the spring seats into the isolator, no grinding necessary. Then grind to fit once more, the isolator if necessary to fit the vehicle's perch. Take a picture of the spring "pig-tail's location relative to the upper spring perch (on the car) on both springs too. Sometimes getting them off may cause a little lean.
  9. How about these??? Fairly common parts. https://www.oreillyauto.com/shop/b/chassis---steering/coil---leaf-springs/coil-spring-isolators-dampeners--universal-/4588413f406e
  10. Yes one may program the "Homelink" to the opener w/o the remote. Put the garage door into learning mode then do the learning mode for the "Homelink".

    Coolant Leak

It appears Ford has fallen back into the '80s again. Designed obsolescence so that it might make it to the end of the "Payment Book" (I bet the younger group does not know about Payment Books with "coupons"). This is the reason people started buying Japanese!
  12. I have run straight 50 weight and plug anti foulers on an old Thunderbird...Little smoke too.
  13. I had to turn as much off as I could. I got tired of fighting for control of the vehicle. Like the OP stated all of a sudden my 22 ST would do some of the same things. He might have driven into a flock of bugs.😉
  14. I have turned off all of the STUPID DRIVER assists. They are not ready for prime time.
  15. I would check the anti-rattle clips on the brake pads.
  16. Have you changed the negative cable from the battery? As the symptoms you have stated sound like a bad ground.
  17. Tire Rack is Discount Tire! Discount is big enough that it can specify the compounds in the thread section of the tire regardless of the manufacturer. An example was the Yokohama tire line with 3 different selections for the same size tire. I could easily tell one to expect with normal driving 40K+ miles. The next was a street performance tire one could achieve plenty of miles but had hardened over time and have next to no traction (20K-35K)! The last was for racing/street(ha ha), with the better driver getting the fewest miles(5K-12K)! Those were the king in SCCA racing too or, if you were not running them you were not winning. When the auto manufactures buy tires they specify the compounds for the tires they buy. An example was the GM TPC radial specification for tires. They skimped on the width of the steel belts and with the springs sagging as they broke in and the camber going way too positive, it caused excessive outside premature shoulder wear. But then again, people were trading in about every 18 months so, for about 15K-30K for tires.
  18. Some of the things about Discount, they sell warranties as well as tires. (DUUHH) Did you know they have tires made just for them by the same manufacturers who's name one depends. Or in other words, they sell one a tire that will never last long but, you have a warranty and they have a ready made sucker for a customer!
  19. Water! Just plain WATER! Most people have never watched a glass cutter so they never knew a simple trick. Before they score the glass, they lick their finger, then drag it behind the cutter. That weakens the glass by IIRC 3 orders of magnitude! So, a rock nick, some rain , a big bump, a twist (sounds like I am going to hurt my back again) of the body and out magic a crack zips across the glass. This is one of the reasons to repair "bulls eyes" or stars on windscreens. Just like evacuation of an A/C system, one needs to remove the water before releasing the adhesives.
  20. The 3.5L motor Ford put into the Edge is the same engine they used in the 24 hours of Le Mans with different pistons putting out 650 HP!
  21. Automobiles are a "Crap Shoot". You may even use loaded dice and slide them too, but in the end they can bite you with some out of the blue problem. Something like a rod bolt breaking or a piston skirt crack, real out of the blue unforeseen failures. Buy it, enjoy it and don't worry about it. (215,000 miles on our 08 with only minor maintenance and OE belts ).
  22. I'll guess bad battery for $500. (HINT HINT) When I lived in California and worked on all makes, sometimes it was tough to take me seriously when I told some of my clients their carburetors ran out of oil!
