Ray Heath Jr
So bottom line is it worth to upgrade to 2.2 even if you don't have the right hub or interested in CarPlay? What's the benefits compared to version 1.0? Thanks in advance Yes, Yes, Yes. This has been stated multiple times. The biggest improvement is the voice prompts in my opinion. SmokingGhost
Well after about an hour of strong language and force I got the USB module out and put the new one in and now have carplay. I think the best thing I could have done was remove the leather side panels and the back shelf cover to help with pushing the module out. I just ran into a little issue where all the sides and top would pop out but the bottom just wouldn't give. Those clips are something else man. I also wanted to thank everyone in here for the feedback and tips to make this as easy as possible to accomplish.
rhallett
Hello all, new to this forum....I have a 2016 Edge Titanium, Sync 3 1.0 NON NAV. I am contemplating upgrading before actual release. This being less than one week before driving from Maine to Key West. I have a OnePlus 3 phone, which is not on the list of phones that are compatible. Will this work with my phone or is it a complete risk for nothing to update? thanks so much in advance for your help with this. It would be really nice to have either Google Maps or Waze show on the screen!!
rvcjew
Your phone should work fine once tethered. And if you want to use it just for the drive without touching the car at all AA now works by itself in the app. Get the AA app off the playstore and you will see what I mean. Malcolm. rhallett
Thanks so much, Malcolm. yes, i'm using that now for audiobooks. Is it worth taking the risk of voiding warranty? i've only had the car for 4 mos. did you do it to yours?

They were impressed actually at the dealer when I went in for the steering wheel fix. Yours requires 2 updates to complete I suggest you read the thread before doing it. CampIam
My two 911 emergency contacts were deleted during the update and I had go in and enter them again. All other program settings & radio stations stayed the same so I didn't think to check that feature until just last night while I was playing with some other settings. I don't know if anyone else noticed this after their updates however if you use that feature & haven't verified yours are still programmed best check. Livestrong16
Is OP still accurate that I can't upgrade from V1.0-Nav, if I want to start the CarPlay upgrade process myself?
rvcjew
No you can it just mentions that it was most likely a dealer upgrade if it went ota. I upgraded from 1.0 Nav. You can do it yourself then swap the usb module. Malcolm Edit: if you upgrade and do not see a CarPlay thing in options you will also need the usb module, if you see the option your module is new enough. Livestrong16
Where can I get that file to upgrade? Do you recall where you got the file? I've ordered the module, but obviously can return if I don't need it.

rvcjew
What do you mean by the hashes? It is used by databases to look things up quickly or in this case to make sure you have a non corrupt file to flash to your Sync 3 system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_function https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA-1#SHA-0 I personally use this Shell extension to check them on my machine if your using windows. http://code.kliu.org/hashcheck/ Malcolm

With that said, not really an issue. It is not easy to screw with these install files.
Rocketboots
So my 8 month old car with 7,000 miles on it went in to have the drivers seat track mechanism replaced under warranty as it had already started to feel disconcertingly loose; not a good sign. I asked the dealer if they could try to upgrade my Sync 3, which is currently at V1.0. They said that their IDS system shows my car to be completely up to date at 1.0. I see responses on this forum that the 2016's will be upgraded by the end of 2016, now changed to sometime in 2017; why do you think that I don't believe that they will ever do this upgrade? After avoiding Ford's products for literally decades, I came back and purchased a top of the line 2016 Edge Sport, loaded with expensive options, that has a supposedly brand new Sync operating system that is actually already out of date. It's not like I bought a low spec Fiesta with thin profit margins. Please forgive the rant, but it seems like a Cavalier attitude to take with their customers. Unless there is some good old fashioned customer service oversight, it doesn't bode well for repeat business potential.
akirby
Are you having a problem or you're just upset that it says 1.0 instead of 2.2? Why not update it yourself if you're that concerned about it?
