Been hearing a lot of ramblings online that say the coolant loss problems from the 1.5 ecoboost are also showing up in the 2.0.

Correct.  Ford issued a TSB in June of 2019 advising of coolant intrusion in 2015-2018 Edge with 2.0L engines (see attachment below).  It's actually been posted quite a bit in those forums you mentioned with some owners receiving new engines under warranty but others having to pay full freight if they're not covered.   There's another TSB for the 2.0 involving the flex plate that can detach from the crankshaft.  I don't have a copy of that one but you can search all the TSBs for your year by visiting this site: https://www.carcomplaints.com/  .  Navigate to your year/engine etc then click the TSB tab.

Following that TSB is very funny (& concerning). 6 Simple steps, except if step 6 is applicable, the solution is to just "remove the engine and replace the long block"!!!

I have a 2018, but it was a car that I restored and rebuilt. The car has a rebuilt title so it has no coverage from ford. I am just worried because I wouldn't want the work that I put in to go to waste because the Ford engineers messed another thing up. The car is at 44k and the coolant is at a perfect level. The thing I am trying to get after is the frequency of the problem. Looking at multiple forums it is hard to say because some double post on different sites and its hard to say how the people that are active online compare the thousands of edges on the road. From what I have been told there is no point in time where the engine has proven it will be fine, as I said before some folks say it just shows up one day. I am getting especially nervous because my girlfriend that has a 1.5 Ecoboost escape is getting a new engine because of coolant consumption. The funny thing is I avoided the 3.5 because of the water pump. Ford just cannot seem to figure out engine cooling smh...

I have a 2017 Ford Edge SEL. There are multiple problems, listed below, that seems to all be related according to the posts I have been reading. Do I really have two separate issues or are they related in some kind of way. I was a jet engine mechanic and I work on all my cars and motorcycles from time to time. So diving into a motor is not an issue for me, but diving into the wrong area and wasting money is an issue lol. Retirement pay only goes so far. What should/could be my next move? I was going to try to find this coolant leak, but I'm guessing it's internal and will need to change some seals.

1. Rough idle on start. It almost seems like a hesitation.

2. #2 Misfire code (changed spark plugs and coil pack already), was about to do the injectors but thought I would check here first instead of chasing my tail and paying too much money.

3. Ran hot so I changed the thermostat (cause the heater started acting up and blowing cold air a few days before), but not much coolant in the system. I checked again today (2 weeks later) and low coolant again so I have a leak somewhere. I did look at the fill cap and it does have a milky like look to it. I checked the dipstick and looks great.

4. Heater keeps going in and out (blows hot one minute and then cold the next). It's like Forrest Gump would say about a box of chocolates....never know what you're gonna get. lol

Sounds like a water pump, especially if it's a 3.5l, or head gasket causing your issues.

It is a 2.0. I changed the water pump because it overheated and had the heater issue just before overheating. I hope its not the head gasket lol.

If it's the 2.0 Ecoboost 420/Cleveland engine, could be a classic 2-3 cylinder coolant intrusion.

Do you know how I can confirm this classic coolant intrusion? Ill do some research as well, but seeing if you had some suggestions to get a head start on confirming this.

Thank yall for the info/replies.

might check around with one of the lawyers that have filed suit.  if they have access to mediation with Ford, you may get recompensed.

Check this site: https://www.lieffcabraser.com/defect/ford-coolant/

I signed up using the form, we'll see if I hear back.

I am having the gurgling noises now... I sure hope it's not a coolant system problem. I just had to have a brand-new tranny put in 3 months ago. Luckily I am still under warranty so it was a free tranny - but warranty is not for much longer.

Can we extend our warranties? I have to look and see what I signed up for when I bought this car used last year.

Wait, you don't get a call from someone named Leslie or Suzie a couple of times a week offering to extend your warranty?  image.png.835aced7e0a7a3c5d13b0a9768f1e212.png

How hard would it be to swap in the 2.3 from the mustang or the focus RS? They’ve got the headgasket issues pretty well licked. And it’d be a nice little bump in power. ?

Easy as pie. Everything bolts up in fact some guys build the 2.3 out of 2.0 blocks to get rid of the open deck. I am not one but I have my 4K miles rs engine and turbo waiting for my 2.0 to fail but it hasn’t even being tuned for over 100k

My 2016 Edge with 95k just started losing coolant. Like others no sign of an external leak.  Losing about 5-6oz per day.  I’ve been watching it since I first read about this problem last year.  Guess it’s my turn.  Anyway, has anyone tried Blue Devil head gasket sealer?  I used that on an old Mazda3 head gasket leak with good results.  I’m thinking to try it here too.

Not a long term fix, and unlikely it will be effective for this type of head gasket issue, but you've got nothing to lose.

A friend of mine has just installed a new engine with nothing offered from Ford - they said that he'd need to pay for a strip-down and diagnostics and only then would they decided if they would extend any "good will".

Why isn’t this just a head gasket change? Or if it’s the head casting that’s micro racking the a head change. I don’t understand the block change.

Because it’s a flaw in the block coolant passages.  They used a slot and that lead to cracking in the block.  They changed it to a drilled passage.

Had a misfire code on the #3 cylinder. Pulled the plug a noticed it was wet. Replaced plug and car still ran a little rough.

My wife called me and said the car wouldn't start. Supposedly the car hydro locked. Took it to the shop and  was told it

probably needs a long block which is on national backorder with Ford with no release date. Really regretting buying this

car. 75000 miles and I need an engine. I have owned nothing but Fords since 86, this may be my last.

work with ford corporate to see if they will share the cost of the new engine with you.  be nice but firm. you never know. sometimes you can find a law firm that has filed suit for this problem and request a mediation if ford is not forthcoming just to you.

I gave the same advice to my friend, but the only way Ford would consider any form of compensation was for him to commit to covering the bill of a strip-down and diagnostics, and he wasn't prepared to risk paying that and the price of a new engine.

He got a new long block from Ford and an independent service shop installed it.
