I would suggest a used Mercedes or BMW. I hear they are pretty much trouble free. -
2011 Edge Bluetooth Module Failing
macbwt replied to Gortty-Pilot's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I have been having the same issues recently and am in the belief it is the android BT system in the phone that is having issues. The reason I have this opinion is when I check the file sharing section for connections in the phone the android BT will not allow me to connect the media (phone) part through the MFT. I select it and it deselects it. -
LOL I was a member of the later before the former. LOL

Getting ready to start back up with my 2nd Ford Edge to hit 200,000 miles. Currently at 195,000 miles. Ford is sending me a sticker for the High mileage club. My 2011 Edge has had a few issues before getting to this point: Here is what the status currently is for repairs. New alternator (motorcraft) New battery (Odyssey Extreme AGM) New Coils and plugs (motorcraft) New PCV (duralast) New belts ( Gates) New APIM (ford warranty replacement) New Purge valve (changed before it failed) caught the issue developing so I changed it. (motorcraft) Standard fluids change: Oil, Trans, Power steering, brakes, coolant Etc. (various brands and synthetic) New shocks and struts. (KYB) Strut mounts (motorcraft) New sway bar links (Moog) New drivers side window (2) (No idea of brand) Only one slight bumper scrape accident at 75 mph. Otherwise no accidents. Can attain 110Mph so runs great. Rotors and pads have only been changed once. (Autozone Duralast Gold and Duralast Ceramic) Currently on third set of plugs (motorcraft) Air filter (AEM dry filter) not cleaned and running for 80K miles so far. Headlights converted to HID Interior lights converted to LED's Wheels chrome cladding removed and painted to match body color This Edge is pretty much OEM at this time so let's see what the future holds in the follow up to the Orange Crush and it's legacy.

I top off daily. Never an issue. Been doing this with the Edge since 2010.
-
A lot of moving parts on that side and your description is lacking clarity to help identify the issue.
-
No idea exactly why this was changed after the initial model years of the Edge. I would suspect this eliminates the fuel vapors from entering the cabin, reduces costs associated with assemble etc. Dropping the tank is not a real difficult job and can be done in a short amount of time. the only issue is dealing with a tank that had a lot of fuel in it. Not sure I would cut a hole in my Edge. I would just drop the tank. Take it as an opportunity to conduct and full inspection and cleaning.

BAMR accordion gasket

Mine are unhooked and not used. -
Every shop says "your filter is dirty time to change it" I say put it back and keep your dirty paws off my filter. 80K miles on filter and never changed or cleaned
-
I believe you are correct. I do not know about the 2015+ MY years, but I would not think Ford would change this system after so many years.

You have a large leak. Best bet is a smoke check on it to identify the leak and location.
-
Purge valve is the issue. The Check oil light will come on when the engine dies and the key is on. Just a glitch in the programing that can be updated. Change the purge valve. Only takes a few minutes and you should be running good as new.
-
Mileage? All city with High idle hours? 50K miles with all city and high Idle would indicate spark plugs. Change plugs clean TB and Intake. Check your Emissions purge valve also it should hold about 21 Vacuum if it is down below 7 change it. Also change the PCV valve when you change the spark plugs. Spark plug change should only take you an hour.

Struts and shocks, Motorcraft or KYB?
macbwt replied to jonesboys310's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Two thoughts. My Edge I like the firmer ride and go with this set up. Motorcraft strut bearing mounts, KYB struts and shocks all around. I tend to be a slightly more aggressive driver than my wife. Wife's Edge will be Motorcraft shocks and struts all around with motorcraft strut bearing mounts. She likes the smoother ride. Do not go after market with Strut bearing mounts. I have tried many and ended up finding the Motorcraft strut bearing mounts are much more durable. -
What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

Hope they get the leak figured out permanently. Just looked again under my 2011 and after nearly 200K miles it is dry. -
My 2011 Ford Edge limited is now less than 5K mile from 200K miles. I am assuming I will reach this milestone on my 2nd Edge about July 2017. I will then move all of my actions into the other thread "what to expect at 200,000 plus miles" to continue the high mileage thread and how does it do with mileage. there is one difference with this Edge. I am in it for the long haul. Let's see what a Duratec and 6F50 trans can do.

Welding chipping hammer.

I gap mine with a flat blade screw driver and a small hammer. Is that bad?
-
IT is all in the wheels. Leverage is key. More weight and more diameter takes more HP. If these sport folks were to put 18 inch wheel on their Edge sports they would think they were ready for the drag strip.

I have purchased some of the Iridiums and since they are not specific for the Edge I discovered the gaps to be completely wrong so if you purchase iridiums be ready to attempt to gap the plugs. I returned them and went back with the MC plugs for platinum. 100K miles on a platinum plug showed gaps at .059, .061 and the rest were at .062 this is based on the OEM setting of .051 approximately before installed. Really great wear IMO and no need to go with the more costly iridiums.

I have always known the funnel was in the back, but it seems a lot of folks did not. Well it is a secret no more.

I would recommend thinking about installing a Fumoto valve with the nipple connector for the drain plug. This would allow you to use vacuum to suck the fluid out and in turn force the new fluid back in. No need to remove the fill plug then. I will say I have not performed this but feel the theory is sound in application.
