  1. thanks. i didn't realize that it was available as an option. i could probably even search inventory online so i don't have to drive around looking. [edit to add: hah! my dealer has a few edges with cargo covers. going to drop in next time i pass by. thanks again for the suggestion @omar302. the reason i've never thought of looking at an edge is that i have never seen that cargo cover on any of the inventory in stock. but i guess that's also because i haven't really looked since i bought my '16 nearly two years ago.] thanks for that as well.
  2. thanks @akirby and @omar302 for your comments. i'm thinking of picking one up. i wasn't aware of this cover being so improved over the previous generation edge. i'm wondering if maybe the MKC at a dealership would have them so i can have a look. i'm reluctant to order something that i might not like.
  3. Does the cover roll into the main piece closest to the rear seats? my 2009 edge came with a garbage sheet of vinyl that was supposed to be a cargo cover. i never used it once since it was absolute junk. Is the cover for 2015+ better, nicer, more solid? It's impossible to actually see one anywhere.
  4. i would be afraid to use goof off on plastic. i've seen it attack/melt plastic before. IIRC, i've used detailing spray to get wax off of black plastic before. back to black won't remove wax since it is just a dye. i've had great success getting faded black plastic looking new again. same thing with the meguiare's plastic restorer, it's for restoring color, not removing wax. one other solvent i have used for many things is WD40. doesn't attack the plastic or paint.
  5. I have an ice cream machine that has the cooling system built-in. No need to use ice or freeze anything. granted, it's more expensive but it works perfectly and i wouldn't use any other kind of machine. a quick search shows that cuisinart and breville make them as well as a few other brands.
  6. a few more tidbits about the ST have been published by autoblog.com https://www.autoblog.com/2018/04/09/2019-ford-edge-st-specs-details/
  7. with that black section in the middle looks more like a "uni-brow" to me!
  8. Thanks Wizard. That's perfect. very much appreciated.
  9. Do these manuals include instructions on removing interior panels/pieces? i'd like to take off the plastic cover on the A pillar and don't want to break it. Things like removing the ceiling liner could also be helpful.
  10. i'm not sure if you guys just want to plug the holes but this guy makes good stuff: https://www.bumperplugs.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=181_187&product_id=78
  11. ah. i may have made a mistake. don't know why i have the 2.3 update zip file on my PC. thanks for letting me know.
  12. interesting. the unofficial zip file i downloaded a while back was JL1T-14G381-AJ. The one available to me on the ford website is now JL3T-14G381-AJ. I wonder how much of a difference there is. thanks jmr061
  13. same up here in canada which is why i get better economy in the summer. it might also have something to do with the engine temp at start-up but when i drive, it's usually plenty of time to get to normal operating temperatures. for me the price comes out about the same, give or take a cent or two. i would think that most countries that have seasonal temperature differences use different blends. some place like the middle east or south-east asia that are just hot all the time might not. knowing UK weather, i would be pretty sure that they do as well.
  14. i have a 2016 titanium AWD with the 3.5 V6. i get about 10% better mileage with 89 octane over 87 and even a bit better in the summer. It feels like it's got more pep but that could be influenced by knowing what's in the tank. mileage is empirical but power is subjective since i haven't had the car on a dyno. i've tried 91 octane and don't get better mileage nor do i feel more pep. of course, your mileage may vary (pun intended!)
  15. the current ford edge in europe have fog lights already. i took pictures at a dealer in barcelona in nov. 2016 and posted here. there were a few other nice small touches like the bottom of the sill on the rear lift gate. it's stainless there and ours are black plastic. i'd love to put a stainless one on my car. did anyone else notice how some of the video was reversed? sometimes the car is right-hand drive and sometimes left. i'm guessing that this was intentional unless their choice of letters on the license plate was coincidental that they read correctly when reversed. but the ford emblem on the front is backwards.
  16. is it whining or screeching? loose belts often make a screeching sound, louder when you quickly rev the engine in neutral for example. in my experience though, they don't go away when the engine gets warmer. the solution is to tighten the tensioner and maybe replace the belt if it's showing signs of wear. if it's just a constant whining that changes with RPM, it could anything with bearings where the bearing are shot. alternator, water pump, tensioner pulley, etc. maybe that would go away when the engine warms up but i'm not sure. 29k miles seems very premature for bearings though. if you're not sure about what it is, then i would have a mechanic have a look. if something is making noise, then it needs repairing or replacing. failure at an inopportune moment can be more costly than getting it sorted before it fails.
  17. SelectShift is just ford's product name for the ability to select your gear in a torque converter transmission, aka "slush box." i was wrong about the european models having a manual gearbox. i just looked at a european ford website and see that the edge there is available with 2 engine/transmission options: - a 180 HP Duratorq Diesel I4 with a 6 speed manual, so a clutch pedal. - a 210 HP is the same Duratorq Diesel I4 but with a 6 speed dual clutch "PowerShift" automatic transmission. see this for info about the PowerShift: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_PowerShift_transmission
  18. maybe it's something that was on the road and made it inside the engine bay?
  19. i don't think the european edge is a dual-clutch. it's just a plain old-fashioned manual gearbox (so it has a single clutch operated by the driver's left foot.)
  20. "Turn your edge into a hotel room." i don't think we stay in the same kinds of hotels. does this thing come with room service? lol
  21. i'll be the third here to endorse the icons. i had them on my 09 and now on my 16. they are smooth, non-streak, and very quiet.
  22. not entirely accurate. fog lights have a very sharp horizontal cut-off designed to throw the light low so it doesn't light up the fog at eye level. lighting the fog at eye level would diminish the ability to see objects in front of you since your eyes would adjust to see the brightly lit fog. this is why when using fog lights, one should turn off the regular headlights. this decreases the amount of light being projected forward but actually increases visibility. on a BMW i had in the 90s, the high beams were actually disabled when the fog lights were on. of course this usage is never observed. but remember that the "real" purpose of putting on your fog lights is to look cool.
  23. remote start shouldn't cause the car horn to honk. as Mikula asks above, are you pressing the lock button twice?
  24. Have you and/or your wife actually tried those seats? I find that these kinds of gadgets and gizmos don't really do much and the novelty wears off very quickly.
  25. Holy Carp!!!! He's lucky to have survived that at all. What an idiot. thanks for posting and good luck with getting a replacement.
