My friends new Lexus has Almost real leather seats and trim. He was told by the salesman that this was an improvement over leather. It does feel nice, Just not as nice as the real thing. I remember vinyl seating in the past and how it would crack after a few years. It is also verrrrry cold in the winter. Natural leather is a fairly good insulator because of its fibrous nature. I was in the leather business for over 25 years and there is nothing that can compare to nice natural grain and hand. My 2007 has leather seat surfaces in the front and most of the back. There is definitely an improvement in manmade products but they don't compare to the real thing.

Outside door handles: OEM vs aftermarket
PaulSchott replied to Lifeisabeach's topic in Exterior & Body
I bought the touchup from automotivetouchup.com The match was perfect and they sell clear coat to go with it. My edge is light sage metallic which is a tough color. I just bought enough to paint a new liftgate on my wife's grand Cherokee that is inferno red and the color is right on. Highly recommended. They sell in cans for spray gun application or rattle cans. For your use you couldn't get easier than the spray cans. I'm not sure if you know this or not, The screw under the cap on the door used to remove the handle does not have to be taken all the way out. Just loosen it enough to remove the handle. -
Outside door handles: OEM vs aftermarket
PaulSchott replied to Lifeisabeach's topic in Exterior & Body
I repainted the handles on my 07 myself because they were looking bad. I would try this first and see how it looks. if you can't do it yourself it's probably cheaper to replace them. -
No, You are looking for the rubber strip that is at the leading edge of the spoiler. That foam strip seals between the window and the spoiler.
-
You should also check your tires. When I got my Edge it needed 4 new tires and it made the same noise your are hearing. macbwt is probably on the money but it wouldn't hurt to check.

Sub Trunk Pieces Loss
PaulSchott replied to mcali6301's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Just ran outside to look at mine and there are no nuts on the studs. Guess the engineers thought they were needed and then they just decided they weren't. -

I have the same problem. I used a razor to cut the ugly parts off. This strip keeps dirt out of the latch/hinge area. I just keep this area clean more often. I haven't noticed any increase in wind noise or any other problems. If you find a suitable replacement please post it.

Good point. Mine is 150W for industrial use in electronics I'm not sure if it makes that much difference. you might want to warm the area up first with a hair drier. You are putting the glue on plastic parts so it will stay hotter longer than directly on metal.

I posted something about this over a year ago. The front bumper attachment points do not hold the bumper in place. This fix works well. I did it on the other side almost 2 years ago and it still looks good. The pictures tell a thousand words. Pull the bumper away from the fender and put a line of hot glue into the clamping areas on the black attachment plastic block. Quickly push the bumper back in place and hold for about 3 minutes. The results are great and will last.

I have an 02 Grand Cherokee and an 07 SEL. They are great cars but different in many ways. The jeep has 110000 miles and the ford has 98000 miles. Both have been pretty bullet proof. The Jeep 4WD is indestructible, The Edge is a FWD and has just had the front axles replaced. The Jeep drives like a truck, The ford drives like a big luxury car. The Jeep has 200 hp is heavy and gets 15 mpg in similar driving conditions to the ford which has 265 hp is heavy and gets 20 mpg on a good week and about 19.5 with the A/C running. I love both vehicles for different reasons. I'm sure you will also. With only 55,000 miles be sure to get a Carfax or something similar to check it out. Good luck

What color is my interior?
PaulSchott replied to CinnamonEdge's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
My 07 has medium light stone with some kind of gray/brown trim. If you find out please post the color. Color Bond is a great product. I did my steering wheel and some touchup on the dash and armrest a year ago and they still look new. I would like to get the dark color to touch up my drivers door, it has some minor scratching that is annoying. -
Frame rail doesn't look bent in the pics. Did the air bags deploy? If they didn't it looks like it's repairable. Looking at the Subaru he did most of the damage by scraping along your car and you don't look like you were subjected to much G-Force. Air bags are the telling factor.

Just replaced my front axles. Not a bad job if you have big air tools. My friend and I did it in about 1 1/2 hours. The drivers side was complaining when making left turns. We removed the top two bolts on the suspension and banged the axle out. the drivers side came out easily, the passenger side was a real PITA. Lots of banging to get it out of the tranny before it let go. Two things to watch out for, There were metal dust caps on the axles that needed to be transferred to the new axles and have a quart of trans fluid handy, you will lose some when you pull the axles. The axles were EBay and made in the USA, The labor cost was a 1.75 bottle of JD. Sorry about not taking pictures but there are lots of videos on YouTube.

Daveski, How many people that buy this voo doo crap will actually go through the bother of returning it and paying the shipping. Besides that I think that most will just assume they have improved their car and be happy about it. My car just gained 75 hp by gluing a turbo badge on the back. The snake oil company will make money even after they get a few returns.

EBay has the plate frames for around $20. There are 2 mounting holes that need to be drilled in the bumper. You need to insert rivnuts into the bumper to screw into. I did this on my 2007. Easy if you can get the rivnuts installed. They are similar to pop rivets with a treaded portion inside. Any good body shop can do this for you for a minimal cost.

I have turned my 2007 off with the fans running and they continue for only about 5 seconds max. It may be that your car is overheating and they are designed to run longer. How high is your temp gauge running? Will they turn off if you don't pull the plug? If the A/C is running and the car isn't hot do they turn off when you shut the car?

132,327, 2007 & 110,798, 2008 gas tanks to be replaced? Grand total of 243,125. Oh yeah, how many are still on the road? I imagine most still are if they haven't been hit or had a gas tank fire lol. Actually it would be interesting to know how many are still out there. I can account for 1 2007

Guess my subscription is out. I like Willie's Roadhouse also. I'm on small back roads going to work and there are trees blocking reception. I'll miss the programing but not the drop out reception. Back to my IPod.

Two-tone interior.. Anyone?
PaulSchott replied to UserName's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I have the Med Lt Stone interior and the carpet is a bear to keep clean. I do love how bright it is, Just remember to clean the steering wheel every couple of weeks or it starts to look dingy. -
Don't forget to have them change the headlight fluid

much of it relies on location. I'm in Connecticut and the reception is terrible. My radio goes in and out (always when Howard Stern is saying something funny.) It's very annoying. I'm on a two month trial and happy I didn't pay for it. The programing is good but the service sucks.

Electrical wiring / AC fan relay
PaulSchott replied to matifjamil's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I'm not sure but it will be expensive @ $100/hr. labor. I would think they could do surgery and just replace the last 10" of wire that has been burnt. Remember the problem could be the connector on the relay itself. Good luck Paul
