macbwt replied to SweetCandyEdge's topic in 3.5L
That is a new one. Have not heard of a broken flex pipe before. -
Instal twin turbos on the 3.5L V6 in my 2016 Edge Titanium AWD
macbwt replied to BITOFNEDGE's topic in 3.5L
The Edge was not designed to hold much more than the 3.5. Anything more and you are breaking out grinders and cut off saws. Then reconstructing a new modular frame and maybe even gutting the engine compartment of accessories. go with the Sport or soon to be released ST. Less money. -
Unplug the PCM and see if it tries to start.

Not sure where you are getting information on front strut bushings. You can replace your struts and strut bearing mounts with MC parts or as I prefer I use MC strut bearing mounts and KYB Excel G struts. KYB does sell quick struts now for the Edge. The strut bearing mount will be KYB and I have no reason to believe the strut bearing mount will be any less quality than the MC parts. KYB will provide a firmer ride and IMO better handling. The OEM will be a softer ride.

Blueberry handled the drive round trip in 36 hours without issue. I really like the adaptive cruise control and accident avoidance system on my wife's Edge. Engine ran great and all systems were well within spec. Turned over 100K miles during the trip.

I have tried different brands and can say I came back to the Motorcraft.. Others will fail prematurely.

Rear brakes won't retract after brake job
macbwt replied to fordedge2's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
You sure the emergency brake lever is not depressed? IF both are dragging this sure seems like an emergency brake lever issue. -

My coolant is never new but never old. I drain and fill about once every 3-4 months and continue to do so. I drive a lot so 3-4 months might be year or two for some folks. Either way I am using Peak and the Ole LU still has the same Waterpump at 227,000 miles. I also have used about 15 or so different synthetic oils in LU. With even more to come. I use cocktail mixes usually 6 different oil brands each time.

Such a boring Edge. Driving all the time doing nothing but changing oil etc. as needed. Everything operating like it should.

Blueberry will be driven to Atlanta GA Next weekend and back. 2-3 day trip with quick turn around. This should give this 3.5 Duratec some legs after being a mom bus for the last year and half. Good to get her out on the road and burn off some carbon.

The oil testing series is nearing the start date!! More later on the exact date. The series will be at least 12 videos involving about 16 engine oils and 4 gear lubes for the PTU. I have found some great oils, some so so oils, one surprising oil and some outstanding oils. The gear lube results will knock your socks off and you will want this gear lube in your PTU!!! Excited about the series!!!!

Sad to hear the engine went due to the water pump. The used engine is a best case deal and hope you get some type of warranty on it. At least enough to verify the engine is fully functional. Too bad it had a premature failure. Makes my 226,000 on the oem water pump seem like a blessing.

Allowing the coolant to become old and acidic contributes to the break down of the rubber seals. I paid to have two water pump water jet cut in half. The seals on both had failed and caused water intrusion into the bearings. The bearings are not sealed but are lubricated with the engine oil. Lack of frequent oil changes with good oil and frequent coolant changes can dramatically cause the failure. Once one small nick occurs in the bearing or race the water pump will fail. The seal is a wire reinforced layer rubber seal pressed onto the shaft with a metal collar. The design has not changed from the 1st gen to the 1.5 gen and I will assume it has not changed for the 2nd gen 3.5.

Suzuki V6 also has an internal water pump.

Oil changed in Blueberry. M1 sample sent to the lab and 5 qts of Kendall Liquid Titanium. partial quart of Motorcraft sny and a dash of Redline oil to complete the fill of 6qts. Purolator Boss oil filter replaced. 113 hrs on the oil (1773 miles) mostly engine idle.

Replace the whole unit and be sure it will work. Use motorcraft fans to be sure they will work and be compatible. Others have had mixed results with aftermarket. This link is the to MC Fan for 2008-2014 wo towing. http://amzn.to/2FboErA
