enigma-2 replied to sweetums3's topic in Forum Help & Site Suggestions
All drug stores, most large grocery stores, all jewelry stores (be prepared to pay through the nose), Amazon.com - Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D8P5T0U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mF84zb3P4H6KR Around here, the best price is at our local Martin's Grocery Store. -
One word: Bondo. Seriously, here are the measurements taken off my 09 MKX. Length along drivers side, from top-of-cowl to chrome trim: 29-1/2". Width at cowl: 63-3/8" (straight line measurement, not along curve). Width at front (seam-to-seam, straight line, not along curve): 63". Length at center, top edge-to-chrome): 31".

Access Passenger Compartment Fuse Panel
enigma-2 replied to msawdust's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
FYI you can use a MirtorTap harness that plugs into the mirror's power connector to power a camera or radar detector. Takes only a few minutes to hook up, powers on when the car is started and disconnects on the power delay circuit (15 minutes or when a door is opened). -
My 09 was leaving the radio on after I open the door. I sprayed silicone into the ignition cylinder and so far it hasn't reoccured. (But it's only a band aid I imagine).

My 09 MKX Maintenance Manual requires plug change at 90k. Sooner you change plugs better chance you avoid PCM (and future coil) failure. (Pay me now or pay me later...)

Comprehensive List of Possible Forscan Mods?
enigma-2 replied to ben senise's topic in Accessories & Modifications
The short answer is yes. When the dealer connects to the IDS website, they use the car's VIN to retrieve it's specific "as-built" values. From this starting point, they can easily read any unauthorized changes. If they make changes (must be authorized to do so) they will also change the VIN database for your car, with the master at Ford/Lincoln. They are unable to make changes which were not allowed for your VIN. I was asking about my dealer turning on the backup camera on my car (the 2009 MKX did not come with a backup camera for the domestic models). Tech said he knew HOW to do it, but was not authorized to do so because my car did not allow this as an option for that year). One point to consider yiu must consider that making ANY changes can void your warranty in many unrelated areas of the card mechanical or electrical sysyems. For example, turning on the backup camera in my car could void my radio, amps, sync & navigation systems extended warranty. (Which at this point expires in a week). Installing a tune could void your cars complete engine and control systems and possibly more. (Tunes are specifically listed in the warrany statement as killing the car's warranty). -
Single or dual controls?

Quick question. Do you know if your plugs have been changed? If you don't change the plugs around ~90k or so, the gap gets too wide, forcing the coils to draw too much current. Higher current cause heat and the coils fail. From only a guess, I would think the problem lies with a coil that's failing, not the PCM. When circuits fail, it's usually not intermittent (but that's not a hard, fast rule). Coils drawing extra current will fail intermittently, before then fail permanently. These types of failures are almost a lack of maintenance.

2007 Side View Mirror
enigma-2 replied to skynyrdmh's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
2007 driver mirror assemblies are going for ~$120 on Ebay. As just the housing is cracked and everything else is ok, you could just add a couple of chrome covers and be done with it. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F251433133250 -
LED vs HID headlights
enigma-2 replied to rsto's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
OEM LEDs work, LED bulbs have a lot of complaints, as not being a nearly as bright. Seen some new LED bulbs that feature several LED elements to get around the hot/cold reflector problem. Haven't read any unbiased customer descriptions about actual experiences yet. I don't believe alot of bs out there concerning LEDs. When it comes to this stuff, I'm from Missouri. Best light is HID conversions, but they do project more glare to oncoming drivers. Phillips are the most cost effective conversion. -
Wireless cell charging
enigma-2 replied to Intranetsites's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Could have had your local dealer hook up their IDS computer and change the Power Point timeouts from 15 minutes to always on. Don't know what the electrical draw of a wireless charger is, certainly more than a wired charger, but you might take the other responder's answer and calculate the total draw overnight. Take into consideration cold weather when battery capacity is half that of summer. Think I read where a Galaxy 8 came with a 25 watt charger. That's a 2 Amp rated charger. Jus saying ... -
Your headlights suck
enigma-2 replied to foghelmut's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
LED bulbs are garbage. OEM manufacturers don't use them, they use individual LEDS positioned in a specific reflectors. LED bulbs have been reported to be not as bright as standard Halagen's. The Best bulbs in a Halagen reflector are Phillips VisionPlus bulbs. Here's what I used in my MKX. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TNMMZ8Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_oGT3zbBMFWB8A -

Brakes briefly turned to mashed potatoes
enigma-2 replied to TheFloppyWeasel's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Had that happen on my MKX. Went back to normal. Took it my dealer and they replaced the power brake booster. -
Your confusing Sirus Satallite Radio with Ford "Sync Services". They are two different services. I subcribe to Sirus Travel Link (but use a weather app more than Sirus). Sirus traffic doesn't have any value for rural areas so no good subscribing, for me. When I do need traffic info, I use Google Maps. Real-time info in urban areas (and free).

Not Sync, Sync Services. No new subscriptions now and will be stopped on Aug 1st 2018. We want to let you know about this important change to your account. Ford has made the important decision to start phasing out SYNC® Services. Starting July 1st, 2017, the ability to purchase or renew a paid SYNC Services subscription will no longer be available. However, those with an active or complimentary subscription will still be able to use all the features of SYNC Services until their subscription expires or August 1st, 2018, whichever comes first. Regardless of subscription status, SYNC Services will no longer be available starting August 1st, 2018. We'd like to thank you for being a part of the SYNC Services experience that we've brought to Ford customers over the years. Although SYNC Services is being phased out, owners can still take advantage of the many features available through SYNC, such as AppLink® for SYNC and SYNC 3, and other services offered by SiriusXM® Traffic and Travel Link®. If you aren't already aware of these features, click here to see what options are available for your specific vehicle. For additional updates and to manage your subscription, please visit the SYNC Services page on the Owner website. We appreciate you being a member of the Ford family and look forward to continuing to improve your experience!

G2 Edge Sport- Strut Tower Chassis Bar Brace Ladder Set

I'm waiting for the tweeting to start. -
It's been my experience that the most likely cause is a dirty windshield. The new blades have sharp, knife edge while to old ones were blunt. The new edge is hitting bug guts residue, tree sap, grease, oil and all kinds of street stuff embedded in the glass pores. Try a good cleaning, here's what I do. :First hose off the windshield to remove the loose dirt. :Then I use either Citris Orange Degreaser or SuperClean degreaser. Rinse with water or glass cleaner. :Next go over the glass with a clay bar. Use plain water as a lubricant. A clay bar will remove contaminants at the microscopic level. Using water, just rub the clay bar over the glass. Any time the clay "grabs", it's found a thin layer of embedded grease or gunk. Just keep going over this area lightly until the clay slides freely. In place of water as a lubricant, can use glass cleaner. :now dry with a clean microfiber towel. :Now, using a Wax applicator, apply a thin coating of Carbona Wax to the windshield. (100 times better than RainX. Lasts 3 to 6 months). :Finally buff the windshield with a clean, microfiber towel. Nothing will stick to the windshield, bug guts will wash right off. If you want your wiper blades to last longer than 6 months, spray them with 303 Aerospace Protectant. (UV will kill blades in 6 months). .

Turn USB power ON after Vehicle Turned off
enigma-2 replied to Intranetsites's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Read somewhere (forget where) that there is a BCM setting the dealer can change to disable the timeout so that the 12 volt power points will stay on all the time. Don't know if this works for the USBs however. You could consider adding you own always-on USB ports however. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MNGCDVS/ref . -
2011-2014 Parasitic battery drain
enigma-2 replied to fishx65's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The instrument cluster should not remain on. This may be unrelated to the problem, but I've had an occasion or two where I shut the car off, pulled the key, opened the door and the radio was still on. Put the key back in the ignition, pulled it out and the radio went off. Fixed it by squirting some lubricant into the ignition cylinder. (Figured it was a pin sticking). As far as the battery, one of the new type of pulse chargers can reset the battery to allow it to take a full charge again. (Short trips can cause the plates to crystallize). Here's an example of one of the best: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006G14FK8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NSL2zbFH6E2Y0
