  1. Went ahead an installed the latest map update. As I'm driving a 2009 MKX, my software is uploaded to the ACU's hard drive. Once loaded (takes over two hours, which is probably why they decided to switch to an SD card), the navigation module reads it in from the hard drive. For the 2009 & 2010 it's now version 9.0 Notwithstanding how the system is designed to read the software, (2007-2098 DVD, 2009-2010 harddrive, 2011- SD card), I assume that the road layouts are identical. Therefore, if anyone was wondering if the latest software has a specific road now in the database, list it and I'll ill try to check for you. (No sense spending $$$ if it still shows you driving through your local pasture).
  2. Lena, I'm guessing that they replaced the relay switch and that problem is fixed. Random vibration is often a tire out of balance. Simple to pull each tire and check the balance. Does this occur at specific speeds or on specific types of roads?
  3. Silicone spray is safe for rubber weatherstripping. But some of the solvents used in the aerosol contain petroleum disulates and will cause the exterior parts of the rubber to react with sunlight (uv). Also, silicone attracts dust and dirt. If you use spray silicone, spray it on a rag first and then wipe it on the weatherstripping. I've read that one way to tell about silicone is to spray some one a Styrofoam cup and see if there's any reaction. Dielectric grease is better, squeeze some between your fingers and wipe a thin film on the rubber. 303 is a better step up from silicone, but costs more. A light film is better than a heavy film. In all cases, clean and dry the weatherstripping before applying the protection. Personally I use Chemical Guys Silk Shine Dressing, has UVA and UVB protection, does not attract dirt or dust. (Same stuff I use on my Weathertech floor mats).
  4. How old is the battery? (Low voltage can cause weird problems).
  5. Alot of professional detailers use Nextzett Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pflege http://www.autogeek.net/1z-einszett-rubber-care-stick.html
  6. Message notification is muted if you have turned "driving mode" to "on". Try turning off (click on messenger, then setting when app opens, and turn off). Try sending message to yourself while in car.
  7. 1st. Talk with your insurance company, they stand to pay the full amount (total?) of the car without recourse. It would be in their own self interest to hire a lawyer to get the kids car impounded before it's modified beyond the accident damage. 2. Try to get a detective involved, perhapsody by taking pictures of the (at the least) to show that it was involved in your hit-and-run. You may have to file charges against the car driven by persons unknown, squeezing daddy to come clean or lose the car (he's probably still making payments on).
  8. What year? I have an 2009 MKX (same as Edge) that I could go out and measure. If it were me, I would remove the glass so you can see exactly where the components are inside (you could damage the inner parts if not careful). Lots of write up about how to remove the mirror glass, I popped my passenger side off couple of weeks ago. Really simple, push the glass in on the car side, put a flat blade screwdriver between the back of the mirror and the holder and twist. The glass will pop free.
  9. I have an 09 MKX, there are recalls on the gas tank and air bags (certain build dates, locations). Tank takes about 1/2 day to replace. Definitely agree to consider the extended warranty. I've used mine several times and nearly paid for. One failure with transmisdion or PTU and your ahead of the game. Does it have Navigation? If do, is it possible to negotiate the latest version of maps (latest DVD just came out and runs $150). Does it have latest version of Sync? Some upgrades must be installed by dealer and you get charged for install. Other than that, 20" tires ard much more expensive to replace than 18"s. Is the car being sold at dealership and is it certified?
  10. I had a problem (2009 MKX) of not cooling at idle (classic fan problem) and took it to my dealer. They checked the AC system and found it a little low on refrigerant (they told me that it was common to loose a small amount of coolant over the years). They evacuated the system to check for leaks and refilled. Then they changed the fan assy. Covered under the extended warranty but said the total bill would have been between $700-$800. Others have reported problems with aftermarket fan assemblies (not working properly, noisier, vibrations, etc.) You might also consider pricing Motorcraft. Costs more, but your assured of not having any problems.
  11. I may have responded in a different forum, I would suspect the slip ring or wiper(s) next in the series (in there you only stated the volume control Switch was intermittent, not two switches). In the other forum I recommended turning the steering wheel and see if it had any effect on the volume control. (To access the slip ring, you would need to pull the steering wheel). There is also a lessor chance that the wiring to the slip ring could have become damaged from the tilt wheel function (only a guess as it's well secured). However you could check it by pulling the cover on the steering shaft and visibly checking. (I've never done this on an Edge/MKX but I understand that it involves removing a couple of screws. Remove the cover and see if you can see any wiring getting pinched when moving the wheel up and down, in and out. Anytime electrical conductors are involved in movement (even though they are stranded), they can break or get weakened.
  12. Possibly the slip ring. You might be able to isolate by trying the volume while turning the steering wheel. (My thinking is there maybe a bad spot on the slip ring or bad contact touching the ring which would show up as an intermittent connection when turning the wheel). Don't believe it's a ground as the ground is common between all the switches.
  13. I remember when they scrubbed a space shuttle launch once when the computers spit out garbage close to launch. They traced it to a bad start up and all they had to do to fix it was to restart. Weak battery has been traced to cause weird problems like this.
  14. Did you think to replace the battery's? Until you do, the car will start if you put the IA in the slot. (Locaton is usually inside the center console, listed in the owner's manual). .
  15. I know it's not what your looking for, I use an app called "My Lincoln Mobile". It can save the current location with a single click. Don't know if it can interact with your Sync3 (doesn't on Sync1) but it "may" be worth checkup it out.
  16. On mine, I adjust the mirrors, (etc.) and then lock the setting by pressing the memory switch on the door. Hold until the second beep and the setting is set for your FOB.
  17. That's really strange. Why would the engine speed affect whether exhaust fumes enter the car?
  18. You check Ebay? For example http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-EDGE-WHEEL-RIM-2008-2009-2010-20X7-5-3701-CHROME-RECONDITIONED-/131877514124?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE
  19. Curious, how does one vacuum air out of a coolant system?
  20. As your considering ordering a new Edge, have you considered getting the factory hitch? Not just the hitch, but factory wiring, heaver raditor, fans, xmission cooler, etc. (Much better towing capacity).
  21. I have an 09 and the airflow is fine.
  22. Congrats, grest car, your going to love your decision. You mentioned having a small dent it the doir, there are repair companies atound rmthat can pop that dent without any tooling. Not very expensive either. Believe they use cold then heat, pops right out. (Neven use their service, friend did and was satisfied).
  23. I had to do this once. There may be an easier way, but none I could find in my 2009 navigation system. When in Map mode, you have six quick touch buttons. Choose "Save to Address Book: Press to save the current location to the address book." Once saved in the address book, you can then save to one of the six "favorites" destinations.
  24. Consider using the foaming hvac cleaner I wrote you about. It will reach into places that bleach can't reach. It's possible to use bleach and still have mold in the housing or evaporator. The chemical must actually contact the mold to kill it. WWWPerfA_NOW mentioned cleaning the hvac filter. I'd like to confirm that you actually have a filter installed. If not, dirt, bugs, etc. can enter the system and build up. On of the side effects of living in Florida is the bugs and critrers. There's always the possibility that there a nest or accumulation of insects that have invaded your hvac and keeps clogging it. (The system itself is well designed and has had relitavely few problems. For whatever it's worth, I've never had a problem on my 09). The filter is located in back of your glove box and is easy to check. There are videos on YouTube as to how to remove the glove box and a cess the filter. Takes about 3 minutes. There is no corrolation between the hvac drain and the brakes. You have organic pads and that's one of the side effects. If you want to cure this, you could install ceramic pads. One of the cons with ceramic pads is not as good stopping power, but it's a tradeoff. Mine also squeek when I first start to back out of the garage. To stop it, I will do a hard stop while backing out and clean the thin layer of rust off the rotors. I can then back out and no squeek. Had organic (cheap) pads put on my wife's Sebring convertible. Damn things squeeked everywhere she went. All the time. Had no choice but to have new pads put on. Went to NAPA and bought their best pads, had Ford garage put them on. Dead silence and still has good stopping power.
