  1. You would have use seats DOT certified for legal proposes. It involves loading at 8x a standard human adult for both the seat and fastening systems as well as the seat belts. The lab testing would run many, many thousands of dollars, far more expensive than would ever be recovered. I work for a nationally recognized testing lab and a competitive lab we are in contact with did do testing for an parallel industry, testing both seats and belts. All of the aftermarket products failed. There's probably no seats you could put in and be legal (or safe in an accidient).
  2. I believe you're thinking about the Vehicle Security System, a $200 accessory installed by the dealer. It monitors even small impacts, glass brakage, etc. One smack on the windows and the alarm goes off.
  3. Have you looked on tirerack.Com? They have 100's of choices that will fit. (Ok, that might be an exaggeration, but you get the point).
  4. Once you stick thsee in keep an eye on your housings. I read in another forum where 100w started to burn the housings and connectors. (100 watts is a lot more heat in a small contained space like a housing).
  5. Although ford doesnt recommended changing the (PTU) fluid (AWD) it's been found that the fluid in these units can leak throught the seal and get gooie. (Couldn't think the right word, sorry). Anyway the PTU doesn't get lubricated properly and fails. (Think $$$). It would be a good idea to have your local dealer check the PTU seals and change the fluid. Not all dealers will change the fluid as it's not a recommended procedure and it's a pita to pump out the old and refill. If they don't, try a local professional transmission shop, which will have no problem. (Money well spent). Best to change the fluid every 30k or so, just to be safe. Also recommend changing the transmission fluid and cooling system coolant. (Your dealer will do these). Change the plugs if you gave 90k or more (gap gets too wide, causes too much current to be drawn through the coils and they can fail).
  6. Does it happen if your wife opens the door while still seatbelted? Sounds like a warning for (1) car running, (2) passenger unbelted and (3) door open = passenger (child) in danger, do not put in gear and drive.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but arn't cat convertor's 'cold' when you first start a cold car? A hot converter under heavy acceleration will burn off stored hydrocarbons, but cold?
  8. Believe this is what akirby is referring to : http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Tekonsha/118242.html?feed=npn&gclid=Cj0KEQiAnvfDBRCXrabLl6-6t-0BEiQAW4SRUDtdmTY-XvldNWpJ1Q0GT6GEMu1elC56PTSBuSDLuagaAtRJ8P8HAQ
  9. You might be right. I was walking around the auto department at Meijers Saturday and was casually looking at Silverstar's packaging. Everything I looked at was 65 watt, but wasn't really looking to see if they were low or high beam. I don't recall reading where theres a wattage limit in the FMVSS. Years ago, here in Indiana there used to be a legal limit of 100,000 cp total at the front of a car. Was talking to a state patrol officer as to how they enforce to law, said he just looks for excessive glare. If it hurts his eyes, they get stopped. He requires them to get lights checked by a professional mechanic.
  10. Ford has a TSB (10-21-1) to addess this issue, the fix is to replace the pump. "Some 2011 Edge and MKX vehicles may experience a reduction in power steering assist after engine start or during low speed parking maneuvers. Assist levels may return to normal after raising engine RPM and the system returns to normal function. The technician may not be able to reproduce the problem."
  11. I'll be installing one in my 09 this year. Was it difficult to remove the hatch inside cover?
  12. Not to mention illegal. If you modify your lights, taking them out of compliance and get rear-ended, you will at fault!
  13. It sounds as if the computer lost the balance on how to idle and just relearned it. Doubt not installing the TPS sending units would affect this.
  14. Got rear-ended back in December, minor damage, scratches, ultrasonic transducer got pushed through bumper cover, pad buckled and split (pieces missing). Goes in tomorrow to Lincoln dealer for fix. $780. Tricolor platinum paint (what little is needed) was $123. Paint labor is $225. The little bracket that holds the transducer in place is $63. New trim pad is $79. Hate to think what it would have been had it been serious. (Fella that hit me was in a hurry and offered me $40 to forget it. Lol.)
  15. When you look at a 21" the sidewall is so small that a nail near the Edge of the tire projects up into the sidewall. On a 20" or smaller, you have more sidewall (higher away from tread), nail can't cone in contact with the sidearm unless right out at the edge of the tread. There's just no sidewall to speak of with 21" wheels.
  16. ... 1917, one hundred years ago .... Pull the choke adjacent to the right fender. Engage the crank lever under the radiator at the front of the car, slowly turning it a quarter-turn clockwise to prime the carburetor with fuel. Get into the car. Insert the ignition key, turning the setting to either magneto or battery. Adjust the timing stalk upward to retard the timing. Move the throttle stalk downward slightly for an idle setting. Pull back on the hand brake (which also places the car in neutral.) Return to the front of the car. Use your left hand to crank the lever (if the engine backfires and the lever swings counterclockwise, the left arm is less likely to be broken). Give it a vigorous half-crank, and the engine should start. Next enter the car and prepare to drive. Familiarize yourself with the controls. A steering wheel, three pedals on the floor, a hand brake and two levers. The brake pedal is in the far-right position (where you would normally find the accelerator pedal). Thr gear selector pedal selects either first gear (which is all the way to the floor), neutral (about half-way out & used for stopping) and second gear (all the way out). Next to the gear selector pedal, you'll find a separate reverse gear pedal. Next the hand levers. With your left hand you'll be adjusting the firing of the spark plugs (down to advance and up to retard), With your right hand you'll control the throttle (down to open and up to close). Also make certain you are dressed for driving. First it's fully air conditioned. Plenty of fresh air. And heated too, if you bring enough blankets. Like to listen to music as you drive? Bring a friend who has a good voice. Stop for lunch? Bring a picnic basket full of stuff. (Healthier too.) Fill up with gasoline. Pull into the station next to the pump. Pay for you gas. Connect the hose to your gas tank. Pump the handle back and forth until you have the proper amount in the glass globe. Believe 5 gal is what the hold. Open the drain and it drains into your tank. Rehang hose and your off. (Haven't been to a station like this since the 90's, so doing this from memory.)
  17. 65 watt bulbs are street legal. Take for example Sylvania Silverstar's. They're 65 watt. They sell millions of them.
  18. There have been several complaints about this from others. Most found this occurs only under heavy acceleration when the hvac is in the recirculation mode.
  19. In my opinion Chevron is the best due to the additives (Techron). Not available in my area, I use Sunoco as it doesn't contain Ethanol.
  20. Check for a leaking seal. Dealer found a leaking seal during oil change, although mine was covered under extended warranty, think they said the total cost was around $300.
  21. My MKX doesn't have a light. Wonder what the wire us for? The hood switch is wired into the top front crossmember (what the hood latches to).
