  1. Inasmuch as the sensor (are there not two of them?) and the latch has been replaced, I think I would try this as a troubleshooting procedure. Driving around slowly, I would have someone (hey, that's what wives are for) sit in the back cargo area and using her feet, press slowly on one side of the hatch, and then the other. It really sounds like an alignment problem, possibly one of the bumpers is off. If so, it might trigger the hatch's sensory and you will know which side is triggering the fault.
  2. Covered before in this thread. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/5750-engine-cover-removal/
  3. Sounds like its getting a marginal signal. The map "can" update based on an occasional connection to the gps, and when it looses it's connection, it will attempt to calculate where you are based on the distance traveled & the steering wheel angle. When it picks up a GPS signal again, it will reset the nav display to the current location. You can pick up a GPS antenna unit for $30 on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/230888408152
  4. Works with most, here's what they saI'd abut certain oils "Some specialty or extended use oils with high levels of additives, or with metals such as zinc or molybdenum, may give falsely negative results. Examples include the Amsoil 'Signature' series, Redline oils, Castrol TWS and specialty, non API rated Royal Purple oils." Not really all that common.
  5. Interesting. When I was able to get the old one soft and back into the rail it just kind of oozed back in. No snap. Guess the rubber gets soft as it ages. (Don't we all). All that sun heat and UV over the years. Was it easy to replace?
  6. GPS antenna is under the top of the instrument cover, under the front, center speaker ans just above the radio. It's more easily accessed by pulling the speaker cover (just prys out). If it were me, I believe I would pull the radio unit and check the GPS connection to see if it's in solid and no corrosion. It's the pink connector at the back of the ACU. Baring this, I would then consider changing the GPS unit. The shark fin at the back of the roof is your Sirus satellite antenna.
  7. Shame you didn't get around to monitoring the temp in the PTU. That would have been interesting to see what's really going on. I have the factory tow option and she's pulled a boat and been towed to FL more than once. It would seem that if anything, towing would put a (heat) load on it more than anything else. I wonder.... if the units failing had aftermarket hitches and exceeded to towing limit recommendations? There has to be some variable that affects some PTU but not otheres. Cant believe it's the heat from the cat as Ford would have certainly considered this (and under all circumstances). If we assume that a single overtemp cab cause the cooking of the lubricant, I would expect to see additional damage as well. Assuming a standard cat is running between 1200° to 1600° and then either through a vacuum leak causing a lean condition or a plug misfiring causing a rich condition, the cat could running as high a 2000°F. At those temperatures, even for a few minutes, I would expect the cat to begin to fail, the aluminum oxide honeycomb could melt causing a partial or complete blockage, or the platinum / palladium coating on the honeycomb may start to melt and reduce its effect its ability to process thw exhaust gas. Either way, a malfunctioning catalytic converter should start throwing codes. Ford should have taken this possibilities into consideration during the design phase. Anyway, I figure that if it goes out I'll just replace it. It already has over 100k on it, so if I have to throw in $1800 for a new one, still worth it if the rest of the car is still cherry. (And it is). $1800 every 100k is not that big a deal considering what car payments would run for a new one. Glad your sister has a great car to drive. That was really nice of you to fix it and give it to her. Consider this a pat on the back.
  8. Yeaaa, that may not have been the best way to describes it. It's dried meat, rolled up in very thin slices. Real salty. Don't know what others use it for, but the cat likes it. Needed something to put the oil in so I pulled out the meat and used the jar.
  9. No. Your suppose to "check" it. You teach your wife how to change it.
  10. Ahhh, so "that's" how he went 200k and never had a problem. lol
  11. If you still getting the "No GPS" icon, try running a diagnostic test on the ACM. Put radio in navigation mode (press MAP) and then press and hold the 3 and 6 buttons simultaneously. That will take you into ACM diagnostic mode and start the speaker walk test. Be prepared for a loud tone from one of the speakers. Before the speaker test finishes, press the "end test" soft button on tbe screen and you will enter the diagnostics mode. Press GPS test on the screen. One piece of information shown is the number of satellite signals the GPS unit is receiving. If it's 3 or less it will trip the "No GPS" icon, but usually it should be around 6 or more. If your in a clear area and should be expecting a GPS lock, go to the dealer and have them check the antenna. I just went out and ran a test on my 09 MKX and got 6 satellites in the garage. (Usually I get the "no gps" when the garage door is up and blocking the signals).
  12. Unique. Can't say I've never seen one on the road. Are the chrome strips below the door OEM or aftermarket?
  13. Corrosion is common, I cleaned a little bit off mine yesterday. Batteries are not covered under extended warranty. They have their own warranty, and by the time they need replacing, it's a mute point. Batteries usually last three to five years, sometimes you can get more. That it's not starting the car indicates that it's nearing the end of its days.
  14. Makes the car pop. What blue is that? Looks great.
  15. Took this from installion instructions for nav radio. "The GPS antenna should be mounted behind your radio just beneath your dash top under your windshield. The GPS signal can be increased by adhering the antennas magnetic base to a metal surface. Plug the pink GPS connector into the matching fakra connector port on the back of the navigation radio." Sounds like you should be able access the antenna after removing tbe head unit. Follow the pink connector wire up to the unit.
  16. Something similar seen in the Fusion forum. Maybe this will help. http://www.fordfusionforum.com/topic/13214-heater-blower-motor-stops-and-starts/
  17. If this failure happened at ~50k miles, wouldn't Ford cover it under warranty?
  18. Ouch. Makes one wonder if the gears were heat treated properly.
  19. Excellent argument, but how do you explain that the majority of cars over 100k and don't have a PTU problem? MacFordEdge went 200k if I remember correctly and I have over 100k on my MKX. I asked my service manager about the PTU a couple of years ago. He said they replace two or three a year, not all that big a deal. I asked him what did he think was causing the failure and he said (don't know if it was the local dealer or Ford he was referring to, but it was clear he was well advised on this), that they had traced the problem to a leak in the seal. If the fluid leaked out of the seal the remaining lubrication would cook and stop lubricating. They also found my seal leaking around 90k (told me it's one of the things they look for at each oil change) and I had it changed under warranty. No drips under the car, they said there telltale signs and that it was only leaking while driving. Drips on the ground come at later stages. (Presumably after the fluid was cooking). Anyway, I'll have the fluid changed around every 36k per the owner manual. (Severe service). I have to believe that if it was just the location next to the cat, this would be common to all AWD & I would think we would be seeing a much larger percentage of failures. I have to believe Ford engineer's did their due diligence and knew full well the area thet were installing it into. Heat shield?
  20. Vacuum leak, dirty injector or O2 sensor going bad. I would consider adding Techron for a couple of tanks to see it it helps.
  21. Don't think I've every had a firmware update in my 09 MKX. I would try pulling fuses for 15 m to 1/2 hr to let caps discharge. Radio setting in car for months on end is no different than sitting on shelf, so I doubt that in itself is the cause. May have experienced a spike when reconnecting battery after so long a layoff. Should have 2-3 fuses to pull.
  22. Checked the lawn tractor today, drained a little out into an empty dry meat jar and let it cool on the patio while I drank a Bud Light. Set up for a test and had another Bud ileght. Pourd a lettle oil on the tester and ran the test. #1 green. Like new okl!! 2nd year on this oil and still like new! Celibacy not changing oil be resting on patio abd enjoye another beer. Ah, love texhology.
  23. Why not try replacing the blower motor and fan assy. Thirty or forty bucks. No more problem. https://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=automotive&keywords=blower+motor&linkCode=ur2&tag=viglink21335-20
