Power liftgate intermittently doesn't open 100%
enigma-2 replied to ypodolyan's topic in Exterior & Body
The purpose of the motorized strut is to get the hatch to start the lift. The purpose of the struts are to push the hatch all the way open. If it's just balancing, I'd say the struts are starting to get weak. (No matter where you leave the hatch, the struts should take it from there to all the way open by themselves). If the hatch opens, say 75%, and you can manually lift it the remaining way, the struts are weak. Good struts will open the hatch 100% open. Weak struts will not. -
Manufacturer recommended change interval for the 2011 is 100k, but it can be done earlier. If you're considering doing the 100k at 90k, then definitely spark plugs, followed by transmission and coolant. (If you haven't already changed over coolant to new type, then definitely have it done.) Full inspection on hoses and belts. Probably the engine air filter as well. Not as critical but I changed brake and pwr steering fluids as well. (All fluids go bad over time.) Good time to check tire pressure on spare. (Usually overlooked and spare looses air just like any other tire. I checked mine couple of years ago and it was flat. Turned out the valve cracked and needed changing. Would have turned out to be a tow if I had a flat tire.) If your Edge is AWD, then change fluid in the PTU. (Very important, but not all dealers do this as its not part of Ford's recommended service. Dealers can pump out old fluid using same equipment they use for rear axle). One item often overlooked is the cabin air filter. This is a simple item for the owner to change (and often forgot about). If the shop does it, its usually a high markup item. The seat filters on the 11 are just screens and usually don't need checking, but doesn't hurt to pull them and check for dust bunnies or whatever.

Nothing shown for the 2018 edge. Why not a rear mount hitch or roof carrier? -

Man that's expensive. $330? I looked on Amazon and this one sells for $43. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093R3C3FJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_4HK9DFM45Z3PZSDR6CMZ

USB port sees the USB flash drive for 10 seconds
enigma-2 replied to BaZZaD's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
At this point it sounds like the ports are the problem, either something entered the openings (beer, coke, etc. which is periodically shorting ) or dirt (which doesn't allow the usb drive to fully seat, becoming intermittent), or, the cable on the back of the hub is not quite seated fully. If the ports are clean and clear, I'd pull them and check the connection. Have the ports ever worked properly? Its also possible that the APIM is the cause, but if so it would throw codes. Easy enough to check, expensive to fix. -

USB port sees the USB flash drive for 10 seconds
enigma-2 replied to BaZZaD's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Is your Sync updated to the latest version? Is your USB drive formatted to FAT32? How about exFat? How old is the druve? What you're describing is a somewhat common complaint across many platforms. Try master reset or reformatting the drive and reloading the music. -
Never seen anything like it. Looks like a great weekend getaway bedroom. Is the mattress confortable? Use sleeping bags?

I'd add, first things first. Change transmission fluid, coolant (to new green after flush), change plugs (if it hasn't already been done) and change PTU fluid. (These are important). Followed later by changing brake fluid, differential fluid, power steering fluid and don't forget to change the cabin air filter. Great buy! Should get many good years out of her. Named her yet?

Shouldn't have any problems with Motorcraft. Besides the part and labor is on dealer as band was only a month old. What kept confusing me was, the thump, thump was loud at times, completely gone at other times. Definitely a tire but not a tire? ?
-
At dealer today. Dealer diagnosed problem as related to tire. Pulled, put on balancer and still was in perfect balance. (Rules out missing weight, broken band, blister or inner damage). Tire good. Mechanic drove car and still had thump, thump, thump. Had service manager verify. Rotated tires and thump moved to passenger rear, so definitely tire. Pulled tire again and still balanced as perfect. Dealer broke down tire and voila! Turns out the band that holds the pressure sensor broke. Spot weld at clamp broke. Was spinning around separately from wheel at times, but synchronized when on balancer and sometimes when driving. (Explains no thump, thump after coming to stop. Also nothing at times until I hit a smooth section of road, but not on rough road). Turns out they had used NAPA band (only.on this wheel), knowing that I hate NAPA parts. Parts manager searched midwest for new Motorcraft band and found one (and one only) in southern Kentucky. Said getting parts is getting to be a real challenge. So that's one I wouldn't have guessed. They never had one break before, and they use NAPA all the time as most customers want cheap repairs. Gets fixed next week. Having them look a brakes as well so they'll get me a new Nautilus for the day. Plus a hand wash (standard for Lincoln service).

Have you considered having your dealer check for any codes? Could be a sign of something serious.

They look great. Did you do it or did you have it done?

This work?

Rereading the posts, you mentioned you put on tires not recommended (wider than specified). I wonder if the Roll Stability Control which is incorporated in the AdvanceTrac may sense an inbalance (due to the new tires) and is trying to compensate. Did you notice the roll with the old tires?

Bluetooth not connecting
enigma-2 replied to Starting to hate this car's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I don't think it will show up on the sync screen until you start the scan from the phone. Sync is looking but until the cell phone starts sending that it's available, sync will never see it. But as you had it synced on a previous phone and lost it, sounds like the APIM is malfunctioning. When you lost the connection on the previous phone, were you doing anything or did it just drop? -
OK, quiet down everyone. Creberus is going to tell us how he knows. Its killing him no one has asked so far and he's dying to tell us. OK, Creberus, you have the floor. "Just how big is it"? .... .... No, no, no wait. That should have been, "how do you know"? (It's ok, I have an excuse. Its a warm, sunny day and I'm visiting Margaritaville.)

2016 Towing Package - trailer wiring?
enigma-2 replied to KrazyIvanUSA's topic in Accessories & Modifications
My 09 MKX has the factory towing package and the factory connector is located under the rear bumper (visible from behind). -
Blend door actuator. Might be able to reset the module with the following procedure: Press and hold the climate control power button and the defrost button at the same time. Wait until the system turns off and then release both buttons. After that is done press the climate control power button again to start it up and the system should be reset.

OK, took the car in to Ford today. The mechanic, Todd, took it for a drive and noticed the thump, thump, thump. After two hours (of which I walked around the empty showroom, also known as "the land of the living dead") and finally out to the service desk to learn what they found. Todd checked the tires and couldn't find any problems. No nails, broken tread, loose wheel nuts, etc. No steering parts worn. Only thing he found is my brakes were pulsating. So he decided to rotate the tires andask me to drive it over the weekend to see if the problem changed. No charge. Started to drive home and noticed that it was exactly the same. Coming from drivers front. Went back and this is really a puzzle. Seems to be tire related. Should have changed to passenger rear. So I made another appointment for Tuesday. Went back to the car to drive home and ••hold on•• last month I had replaced an OEM wheel that was slightly bent (curb in drugstore parking lot) with a new one. They left the little green sticker on it. So I did too. (Have I ever mentioned that I'm lazy)? And low and behold, there was the little green sticker, on the same wheel they replaced. The idiot never rotated the tires. (Evil Grin). Back in the service area, "uhhh Chad"? (Using my best "Montreal Burns" voice from The Simpsons)? Got the deer in the headlights look, followed by a "ohhhhhhhhhhh shit". Then as best as I can describe it, a murderous look towards the service bay. So I said that we can look at it on Tuesday and "oh by the way, believe I won't wait, please have a loaner for me". "Like a new Lincoln, if its available. He fell over backwards agreeing. And so it continues......
